I'm pretty sure Voldemort being able to fly is significant because it shows an imaginable level of spell-less magic. We know wizard's and witches can use magic without their wands and spells, but it's wild and difficult to control and direct, hence the use of wands and spells to safely direct and focus said magic. So Voldemort flying shows complete mastery of magic, not just with a wand or spell, but raw 'unfocused' magic.

Actually Voldemort did die at 71, not 72. His birthday is in December, so he would have been 72 in December of 1998, but he dies during the Battle of Hogwarts, in May. So he never made it to 72.

I thought of the fact that according to Pottermore my wand is 12 ¾" *and* has a Phoenix feather core; so maybe it was the same for J and his mind drove him to that number because he associated it with the Phoenix feather.
In that case I guess the answer would technically be whatever blood type Wormtail and Harry have, which would have to be compatible with each other or else Voldemort would have some medical issues.
I think the thing with Voldemort flying isn't so much as a travel option (like you said its so inefficient), it's more of a demonstration of power. Like, you never hear someone go, "wow, they can apparate," but you always hear, "did you know Voldemort could fly?" especially because it is the first time in wizarding history someone flew unaided. It makes him sound powerful and therefore threatening, which I think He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named would like.

Of course it is on Privet Drive when he and McGonagall are delivering Harry. Dumbledore says that he prefers not to engage in the "You-Know-Who" nonsense. McGonagall asks why he says the name and that's where the famous quote "Fear of a name only increases fear of the name itself."

Narcissa isn't a death eater because she never received that dark mark, the reason for this is due to the meaning of the Dark-mark. To wear it means you pledge your life to being a death-eater and will let nothing come before your duties to Lord Voldemort. Narcissa cared to much for her family and Lucius to put anything else before them so she didn't become a deatheater because of this. But as Lucius was Voldemorts right hand man she still was about to join meeting and more based on her position and probably her pure-blood background.
Narcissa couldn't lie to Voldemort if she took the mark and was a Death Eater, I think that's the implication. The Dark Mark contains legillimency, that's how the Death Eaters are summoned.

I think you're right, in order to see them you need to grieve the death you witnessed and Harry never knew of his parents until long after their death hence why he couldn't see them. Voldemort couldn't possibly ever grieve the death of anything because he cared for nobody but himself. That's why he has no problem killing, but is terrified of dying. Really cool theory! I think thestrals being the embodiment of death would be intimidating enough for him to not mess with him, but he's fine using them for his power like the elder wand because he doesn't care about death unless it applies to him.

In question 9 about the Taboo on Voldermort's name I think it was unfair to give Jon the point because on of the multiple choice answers was "Breaks protective spells" which is incorrect. So if we had the answers he should have chosen between the two and maybe he would have chosen the wrong one. I would give him half a point.
Random Harry Potter thought of the day: Does the accio spell account for barriers in the way of you receiving the object summoned? If I summoned the lunch box I left at school today would it crash through walls and glass to take the most direct path to me? Would doors magically open for it? What if I'm in a room with no windows or doors? Would the object still make it in or be stopped by the wall?
from stuff in the books, I would say the accio spell at least can take barriers into consideration (I find it hard to believe Filch wouldn't throw a tantrum over Harry's broom destroying a bunch of stuff on it's way to the dragonpen in Goblet of Fire), but it is also shown to have Fred and George's brooms smash through Umbridge's door in Order of the Phoenix. so one of two things is the possible explanation: 1: the spell automatically takes barriers into account if at all possible, but will break through them if no other option is available, though I think there would be a limit to how much it can punch through. 2: The wizard/witch chooses how the spell reacts. option 2 could of course depend on how good the wizard/witch is at the spell as Kupferhans suggest in his/her post.

My guess is it A) requires a very difficult spell, B) requires the followers to constantly be recasting some spells to be able to track and uphold the taboo. I feel like the taboo only last as long as there are followers upholding the taboo. Dumbledore probably couldve put a taboo on curses but it would be very complex and require lots of people to help him uphold it. There's also the problem that the spell might not work on magical phrases. Voldemort is just a name but magic might be more powerful and have its own rules. Also, non verbal spell casting, even if its not as easy, is still very common for Voldemort and all other death eaters to perform
@ question 4 Harry never becomes Augustus Rookwood. Rookwood was a deatheater working in the department of mysteries who was ratted out by Karkarov. Later when the Azkaban deatheaters get broken out, he is able to tell Voldemort that only the people who a profecy is about can get it out of the department. Harry becomes Albert Runcorn when they break into the Ministry in book 7
Kyle Pask it’s no doubt a useful skill. Super useful, but not how he ACTUALLY used it. For example, rapidly moving through an area one doesn’t have prior knowledge of, or otherwise unable to visualize clearly.

I think the flight thing is he is flexing his magical prowess on them. He's the only, or one of the other ones to show independent flight, whereas other wizards need tools for it.
They don't always appear in the same order when you take the test. They probably take the screenshots at a later time than when Derek reads the questions.
It's a really clever way to do quizzes, because, if the Pottermore site DIDN'T randomise the order of the answers every time someone does a quiz (which it does, so it doesn't matter), by reading them out in a different order means that someone can't have looked at the questions beforehand and memorised 'A' or 'B' or whatever order/combination that the answers would be - because they would be wrong.
actually, the wand they measure is accurate to the films, but not to the book. The prop team didn't research the length and just made something that would be aesthetically pleasing on camera
The question about Voldemort's boggart makes me wonder about whether he would have been unable to repel it. He seems like the kind of person who would not have been able to think of anything humorous for the boggart to transform into.
The thing about Voldemorts age is that even though he is technically 71, he didn't really have a body for like almost 14 years. So while he was technically born 71 years before he died, his body was not that old.
Even if it meant defying Lord Voldemort. Narcissa might have been part of Voldemort's inner circle, but only by default. Her husband, sister and brother-in-law were all Death Eaters, as was her cousin Regulus Black but, as far as we know, she never took the Dark Mark herself.

I think the significance of Voldemort being able to fly is more of an advantage in terms of combat, being able to fly without also needing to focus on steering a broom is definitely helpful, as far as traveling it's not practical, but I imagine that it's not all that practical to apparate in combat. It also would make for an effective fear tactic since it's something that's never been done before at least as far as we know.
I really didn't like the order question for the ingredients of Voldemort's return, the chapter is called "flesh, blood and bone" which I remembered, but it's not the order!!

so with the flying vs apparateing my thought has always been that for apparateing you need to concentrate on a destination before you can disapparate from the current location, so if you happen to be falling off a castle and your not able to concentrate on where youd rather be then apparation isnt going to help. also could be a work around for places that dont allow apparation.

I think the thing with Voldemort flying isn't so much as a travel option (like you said its so inefficient), it's more of a demonstration of power. Like, you never hear someone go, "wow, they can apparate," but you always hear, "did you know Voldemort could fly?" especially because it is the first time in wizarding history someone flew unaided. It makes him sound powerful and therefore threatening, which I think He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named would like.

Getting someone, alive or dead, to do your dirty work is an act of recruitment. You can ask them, they will come, and also have the option of not asking them, then they won't come. It's very tricky.
I took Voldemort flying as that He will ALWAYS be improving. Never stopping his progression in mastering and pushing his magical ability. Never content with his current level of magical ability. If you don't deal with someone like that sooner rather than later, chances are you're going to have a bad time.

Narcissa isn't a death eater because she never received that dark mark, the reason for this is due to the meaning of the Dark-mark. To wear it means you pledge your life to being a death-eater and will let nothing come before your duties to Lord Voldemort. Narcissa cared to much for her family and Lucius to put anything else before them so she didn't become a deatheater because of this. But as Lucius was Voldemorts right hand man she still was about to join meeting and more based on her position and probably her pure-blood background.
Plus she would have been at the graveyard for his rebirth

I think you're right, in order to see them you need to grieve the death you witnessed and Harry never knew of his parents until long after their death hence why he couldn't see them. Voldemort couldn't possibly ever grieve the death of anything because he cared for nobody but himself. That's why he has no problem killing, but is terrified of dying. Really cool theory! I think thestrals being the embodiment of death would be intimidating enough for him to not mess with him, but he's fine using them for his power like the elder wand because he doesn't care about death unless it applies to him.

In question 9 about the Taboo on Voldermort's name I think it was unfair to give Jon the point because on of the multiple choice answers was "Breaks protective spells" which is incorrect. So if we had the answers he should have chosen between the two and maybe he would have chosen the wrong one. I would give him half a point.

Random Harry Potter thought of the day: Does the accio spell account for barriers in the way of you receiving the object summoned? If I summoned the lunch box I left at school today would it crash through walls and glass to take the most direct path to me? Would doors magically open for it? What if I'm in a room with no windows or doors? Would the object still make it in or be stopped by the wall?
It obviously depends on how powerful you are as a magician! :D
from stuff in the books, I would say the accio spell at least can take barriers into consideration (I find it hard to believe Filch wouldn't throw a tantrum over Harry's broom destroying a bunch of stuff on it's way to the dragonpen in Goblet of Fire), but it is also shown to have Fred and George's brooms smash through Umbridge's door in Order of the Phoenix. so one of two things is the possible explanation:
1: the spell automatically takes barriers into account if at all possible, but will break through them if no other option is available, though I think there would be a limit to how much it can punch through.
2: The wizard/witch chooses how the spell reacts.
option 2 could of course depend on how good the wizard/witch is at the spell as Kupferhans suggest in his/her post.

My guess is it A) requires a very difficult spell, B) requires the followers to constantly be recasting some spells to be able to track and uphold the taboo. I feel like the taboo only last as long as there are followers upholding the taboo.
Dumbledore probably couldve put a taboo on curses but it would be very complex and require lots of people to help him uphold it.
There's also the problem that the spell might not work on magical phrases. Voldemort is just a name but magic might be more powerful and have its own rules. Also, non verbal spell casting, even if its not as easy, is still very common for Voldemort and all other death eaters to perform

It's a really clever way to do quizzes, because, if the Pottermore site DIDN'T randomise the order of the answers every time someone does a quiz (which it does, so it doesn't matter), by reading them out in a different order means that someone can't have looked at the questions beforehand and memorised 'A' or 'B' or whatever order/combination that the answers would be - because they would be wrong.

The thing about Voldemorts age is that even though he is technically 71, he didn't really have a body for like almost 14 years. So while he was technically born 71 years before he died, his body was not that old.
Even if it meant defying Lord Voldemort. Narcissa might have been part of Voldemort's inner circle, but only by default. Her husband, sister and brother-in-law were all Death Eaters, as was her cousin Regulus Black but, as far as we know, she never took the Dark Mark herself.

I think the significance of Voldemort being able to fly is more of an advantage in terms of combat, being able to fly without also needing to focus on steering a broom is definitely helpful, as far as traveling it's not practical, but I imagine that it's not all that practical to apparate in combat. It also would make for an effective fear tactic since it's something that's never been done before at least as far as we know.

so with the flying vs apparateing my thought has always been that for apparateing you need to concentrate on a destination before you can disapparate from the current location, so if you happen to be falling off a castle and your not able to concentrate on where youd rather be then apparation isnt going to help. also could be a work around for places that dont allow apparation.
