    *I want to move to Africa so bad. I'm a black American who has never left the U.S. But I am fascinated by Africa and honestly too many blacks in America are traumatized by our history in America. We have PTSD. Undiagnosed PTSD. Most blacks in America are as if they are 'shell shocked'. America has been a hellish experience for many blacks. There is a constant unease with being black in America.*

    I started learning the truth and beauty of Africa when I was in the military a little over a decade ago. It was one of our port calls in the Navy and we had a few free days to enjoy the area we were in. When I tell you that day for me was LIFE CHANGING!!! The air, the water, the spirit of the motherland just felt so right. So much so that I just felt betrayed and lied to by the US my entire life about Africa. After that, I took it upon myself to learn more and appreciate our culture so much more.

      Ghana is a headway when it comes to these things but most west African counties are receptive as well. It seem Ghana is more welcoming because ghana is a pioneer in pan Africanism. Ghana has a string legacy of accepting the diaspora which dates back to 1940s

    While this is great, as an African I must advise against romanticizing Africa and Africans. Africa is a continent and people even who realize this, don't realize what it means. Africa is a continent just like Europe is a continent. Looking at Europe, you'll realize that Europeans don't associate with each other based on skin color. They have different nations and different cultures. Knowing this, I would warn those who wish to relocate or visit Africa to know that they will not simply be accepted based on their skin color. Just because you're black doesn't mean Africans will accept you, because they don't know who you are. Secondly to make things easier for yourself, and to make it easy for people to accept you, try to learn from them.
    I've noticed too many of you when you visit, are too quick to judge, too slow to learn and quick to teach. Learn first and teach later, learn to listen first. Most important thing is RESPECT. Africans value respect not just for your elders but for strangers. Respect is not earned but is the default setting of the African, changing only once they realize you have no decorum. You must learn to talk to people respectfully and remember this isn't your country, you're a guest so behave like one and you will quickly be accepted.

      Eden Garden Africans have European ized THEMSELVES IN ORDER TO FIT IN with no help from American Blacks, they won't socialize with most✔, any problems, they brought on themselves. I Dont see why so many blacks are falling over themselves to get to Africa, we clearly need to come to terms about cultural differences first. At this point I wouldn't take a chance in any unfriendly environment💯...✌

      ONO Home, i agree with u my friend, many people in Africa have no idea what blacks in America/Europe/and even Latin America face as far is direct racial hate and self hate. And Blacks overhere have no idea what Africa is like. In Africa im just an american, or westerner so we should really learn, and humble ourselves before we go there. Same thing when u come to America or Europe you might be from Kenya, but over here your just another black guy!

    • @sonofnok2153
      @sonofnok2153 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      You are talking backwards. The same Europeans you like to cite would leave Scotland, end up in France, and is respected. Would leave Germany, end up in Spain, and be respected. What is the common denorminator? Skin color.
      You have been brainwashed by the same Europeans not to unite around skin color, but all the exploitation of Africans by other cultures, is based on skin color. The sooner Africans begin to unite and accept one another based on African ancestry, the sooner we liberate ourselves.
      Granted, your comments are more applicable to everyone including Africans in the Diaspora who have rejected their Africanness, to borrow Euro culture; not the same with PAN-Africanist. The lady who posted this video is a PanAfricanist. Did you hear say "Africa for the Africans?", not Africa for everybody; Chinese, Arab, Europeans, Indians, Brazilians like some of you espouse!

  • @yomidahl8323
    @yomidahl8323 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    I don't think Europeanisation can just apply to Black American or Europeans today. Right now in African countries themselves the younger generation are being influenced through globalization, social media and the internet to act and behave like American, because they think the culture is 'cooler' than their own African culture. There is a serious issue amongst young Africans, an this should be addressed too, because the values, traditions and customs of Africa will die out through this younger generation!

      True. Just check what they are being taught at school. African history has largely been removed from the curriculum. Most of our young people do not know anythng about who we truly are. There is however the realisation among the older people that this has to change. It has started slowly but I guess it is one step at a time.

    Whats ironic about this is that my upbringing in New York among black Americans who upheld African spirituality, African naming ceremonies for children, pouring libation to ancestors, health food, natural hair/ African braiding, African dance & drumming, etc, was more Afro-centric than that of my African college friends- who were very "Europeanized" and elitist.

      +SylviasWorld Thanks for the comment, there are many of us that are reconnecting to countries like Nigeria, Senegal, Guinea, Cameroon, Sierra Leon, Liberia etc. This shift that our people are going through is a process and one that takes time. I would like to see more of us move at a greater pace myself reconnecting with our families and original culture back home. I find that we are living in a great time where all of us are making history or rewriting ourstory, imagine a 100 years from now people will remember and speak of those Africans that returned home and reconnected to their roots but this must be a process!

    Black Americans romanticize about Africa too much. As I've gotten to
    learn about the actual African continent I've developed mixed views on
    it. Africa has both good things and bad thing about it. African
    countries need more poverty reduction and corruption needs to be dealt
    with better on the continent. Africa also has too many outdated cultural
    practices like FGM,Trokosi,widow cleansing,child brides and some cultures who will
    accuse little children of being witches. So I'm all for Black Americans
    "getting back" to Africa but we need to develop a broader understanding
    of what things are actually like on the continent. So start checking out
    African news sources and not just listening to U.S Afrocentric
    lecturers for your info on Africa.

      CrowdPleeza, point of correction everyone from an African descent has the same culture but different cultural expression or cultural perception called Tradition. It is the tradition that is outdated not the culture because Culture is the consciousness.

    • @thembacele7168
      @thembacele7168 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CrowdPleeza It is very important to check the correct provider of information. From what I've learned, is that what people will you tell you what they want you to know and continue telling that until you believe it. Just pay a visit to any country, make sure you you come as an African not as an American on European.

    • @thembacele7168

      apolo kabali , I hear what you are saying, if we look at Africa like our own, we'll be able to make a correct decision. My main concern is Africans from outside of Africa, coming here and fail to conduct themselves as Africans. Maybe I'm hash, hence I stress that point about source of information about intier African . We also need to look at the white supremacy hand book, only then we'll have a better idea and direction.
      I strongly believe that Africa does match America in your eyes. Look at the demographics and tell me are African American getting equal opportunities in the corporate world, as airline pilots? ???

    Having lived in various areas in different countries, I believe that ppl adapt and learn the area to which they live and/or grow up. It’s simple. To say someone is “ized” is odd. One can be African American grow up in Africa, leave and learn another culture and then leave there to learn another. I hate the notion that ALL black ppl must always be ONE particular way. It’s dumb. Just like ALL white ppl aren’t one way and all Japanese aren’t one way, please stop the whole ONE way is the only way for African descendants to be because frankly, my DNA is blessed WHEREVER I am and it’s great that it can survive ANYWHERE. I love being WHO I am and in the skin I’m in without ppl who haven’t walked ten miles in anyone else’s shoes to tell them what they should or shouldn’t act like based on the SKIN COLOR. Africans and African Americans share much alike and instead of hating and criticizing, we must respect and adore OUR FIGHTS AND LIVES in the motherland and abroad. We connect!

    If you have a mindset to think the traditions & customs of whatever part of the continent you live in then you can make good and live well, but it depends on you. Are you accustom to living the American Dream or do you really want to be apart of something great which is the African culture? The African culture is so creative, brilliant ,innovative, inventive, skillful, artistry, mathematical, philosophers, resourceful etc. there is nothing they can't do.....and if you are apart of that culture then you benefit. I've seen ppl make their life work well in Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Gambia that came from America having little or nothing but yet they are doing well, and they do not miss America at all. You can no longer have a mindset like you did when you lived in America if you want to live well in that great continent. America incarcerates your mind to make you think you cannot do well in the African continent but you CAN. Stay focus and do it.

    Great your Bamileke. They are enterprising. But, America has no hand outs. Citizens pay taxes for those services. The 1950s post-war era is the reason why the country went from entrepreneurs (market people) to employees. I wish people make accurate comparisons. And why be ashamed of being American, even if you choose to integrate into an African culture.

    The reality is that both continental and diaspora Africans are Europeanized. We have parallel experiences. Colonization and slavery have created African people who are out of our African minds literally. Having spent a great deal of time in multiple African countries, I can truly say that Africans on the continent are no more African than those in the diaspora.

      +spadedz my wife is native Burundian, and she just traveled through Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and the DRC last month, and yah, each county is drastically different. Some regions are very dangerous for westerners, even though she is native to Burundi and has lived in the Congo before, she hasn't been to Africa for about 15 years, and in-order to make the trip, she had to de-westernize herself, very little make up, no pants, just long skirts and no Jewelry. Even then, she said she stuck out like a sore thumb. She said Kenya was wonderful, very tolerant and multicultural, Burundi was OK, she felt safe there because it was her home country but other than that, not safe for outsiders. Rwanda was very clean, but dangerous, apparently the government is very severe and has tight grip on its population, and the Congo was OK, she has family there, but the region they were in was very very poor, almost no infrastructure such as good roads, running water, electricity etc etc, and once again, not accommodating to outsiders. So yah, even if your black, you're not guaranteed to be welcomed in some parts of Africa, and an individual should travel with due caution.

    Africans in diaspora are welcomed in Africa. They should come back and contribute to the upliftment of Africa. They can have dual citizenships but their allegiance should change to be African. Chinese diaspora contributed immensely in uplifting China when they returned home. Our glorious mission today is to make Africa great as it was before slavery times. Its only unity of Africans all over the world that we can overcome racism which Africans suffer from caucasians mostly. Unity of Africans starts here in Africa when Africa is United as one country

Besides, you don't need to live on the continent of Africa originally called the land of Ham-Kemet by the ALMIGHTY CREATOR, to have self-esteem Black Soul Integrity Pride, it is obviously from within.

    As a beginning of rebirth to learning and progress of nations of the dark continent. The first thing to do is as a people and race is the proper name. The European's call our land Africa by their definition sunny hot. We should call our land HAMAIA or HAMAYA BECAUSE IT'S PEOPLE ARE IN THE MAJORITY DECENDENTS OF( HAM). Thus we take back our power over ourselves and to define ourselves in all ways.

      Definitely a romanticized view of Ghana. Ghanaians are leaving the country in droves (relatively speaking), many coming to U.S.A., yet there is less than even a trickle of African Americans just visiting Ghana. There are reasons for that; Ghanaians themselves don't even view their country in the same light as the presenter does.

All African Countries have similarities in the way they live and do Business. Like that Man moving with Cows. Also very common in Uganda. People are farmers even here. They sell all sorts of fruits & veggies. But still white especially in South Africa. say mbu if they live Africa we will starve. Yet our families have been living off their lands for centuries before the whites came. Uhmm.

    if your origins come from Cameroon then that's where you should move to or buy a land and build your house there. but like every other African you can always travel around. go to Ghana do business and back. go to Europe or America Asia do business and back. you're not glued to one place. this is what the whites have done to African Americans, they have made them believe that they can't go anywhere or they are bound to one place. most importantly development of your home town (in your case Cameroon) is what gets you respect from your own people. your people give you Chief title when you do for your community. they also give headship tittles to females as well.
