In regards to the amount of books people read, I work in a bookshop and I read around 75-100 book a year. I have colleagues who read 5-10. We all have different things going on in our lives. I work 4 days a week and my only hobbies are reading, video games and going to the gym. So, I have more time to read. A lot of people also use audiobooks and listen to them on a faster speed. I know I use 1.25-1.5 speed pretty often. So, don't feel bad! All reading is good.
I thought this was a great conversation and brings so much insight to someone like me who just likes to sit and enjoy the videos you all put out. I could only imagine the amount of work doing booktube is and I appreciate the hard work you all do to make content.
Thanks ladies! This was a really interesting and valuable discussion. As someone who’s been doing BookTube for years as a hobby, I related so much to what you both were saying. I feel like wrap up videos used to be some of the most popular videos years ago but they definitely seem to get less views nowadays. I’m generally a positive person so I’ve never been good at or enjoyed the idea of doing the negative clickbaity videos. Loved hearing two different perspectives on content creation and I’m looking forward to watching the next “episode” tomorrow!
I really like seeing you two just talking, it was such a comfy and cozy video to watch! And I love how candid and genuine you two are together. Thank you for sharing this with us. Also also and, it was nice to see you being so open and vulnerable. I know it's not easy to do so. I appreciate it so much!!!!
Ohhh I relate so much to the guilt of not working / not turning off. Like I said in my last comment I'm working today even though I'm not well! Elle I hope you manage to take time off for yourself soon. The amount you post is amazing and I love your videos but you totally deserve a break for yourself! xxx
I really liked this video! I started a channel because the first booktuber I found was really small but I loved the idea of just having a space to talk about books. I have no one in my daily life who reads or enjoys reading so I figured it would be fun to have a space for it. Then it turned into a place where I can do more than just books, and I like going back and seeing videos I've made and I especially love when other people engage with the videos and talk about their own experiences. I haven't really kept track of how long I've been doing this for, but it was thanks to the one small channel that I found so many others and I just like doing it, but hearing all this information about doing as a job or doing it as a hobby like I do is super interesting! Thank you!
Ohh, that’s so lovely! I think that’s what a lot of people get into Booktube for, and the money/views side of it can sometimes get in the way of what was originally the inspiration. I’m glad it’s always been about books and connection to other readers for you 😄
This discussion is awesome, super interesting. It also as a bonus is keeping me company as I'm not well today but I'm working from home anyway, and it's been a great comfort having this play while I work away!
I feel the same about working from home / being alone at home a lot. I love working from home and it's a huge benefit for me. But it does mean that I'm home on my own with my cat a lot and as much as I love my cat, you do need a certain amount of human interaction / conversation too. I actually combat that sometimes by having booktube videos playing in the background because it's just nice having someone talking in the background, the noise / voices genuinely help as it fills the silence! So, you both actually help me with that feeling sometimes! x
Agreed. I’ve been on booktube for 2 years and haven’t seen a huge amount of growth and I know that can be disheartening when you see other creators being on for less than a year and getting huge. I also do my filming on my phone, do my own editing, etc. I also work full time, have a dog, and volunteer a lot. But the bottom line is I like doing it and I have to focus on that. I also have had people tell me they love my channel and that means the world to me because I am such a tiny channel.
This was a great video. You 2 are so funny which is why I watch both of your channels. I also don't have a lot of people to talk to books about so watching booktube helps me get recommendations etc. Looking forward to your next video.
agreed, yay books! 💜 this was interesting, thanks for sharing your thoughts and insights. i’m surprised that wrap-ups do so poorly. they’re actually my favorite as i get to hear the positive or negative thoughts on the reading experience. admittedly, i prefer not too many books getting wrapped up as otherwise by the end of the marathon i’ll have forgotten the books i want to look into more closely. 😂 (but that’s on me, ofc) have a lovely day + happy reading!
it's so sad and illogical that monthly wrap ups don't do as well on booktube. those are my favorite videos to watch! i will never ever understand why hauls and unhauls do better than videos about what is actually in those books🤨🧐😒
Yay books and yay booktube! I usually never watch these kind of videos, but your talks/discussions/thoughts are just so entertaining and informative that I simply have to watch them! 😂 ❤
Yay books! lol I really enjoyed this video. I watch booktube and a lot of art creators. I feel like so much of this applies to both. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
This was such a great video. As an English teacher that is considering TH-cam as a "fun" second source of income, this really came up at the perfect timing.
Thanx for this video. I really enjoyed how you are highlighting the good and the bad and are both so transparent. Would love to see more topics being discussed by the two of you.
Regarding the bell notification, as a viewer I'd like to say that even when I have the bell notification on, especially for some smaller booktubers I watch, at some point youtube stopped notifying me and I had only found out that they were still putting videos up because I personally checked theit channel after not having heard from them for a long time and wanted to watch them. For instance, I love watching a channel on mythology books, but for the longest time youtube wouldn't notify me of their videos even though I have the bell notification on to be notified for all of their content. I have found this very annoying and they have been doing it occationaly with more than a couple booktubers I watch.
Loved this video! Don’t know if you’ll see this but would thinks it’s cool to do another video like this with Jessie and talk about starting a booktube channel, such as how y’all promote the channel or how y’all made your first few videos and the fears of posting a first video/what type of videos to post when you don’t yet have following. Especially if you’re someone who wants to create a channel to have fun and connect with others and share that love of books but not sure how to go about building up to be able to connect and such. Anyway sorry for the rambling keep up the great work!:)
I've been really wanting to start a Booktube channel for ages, but have been procrastinating for no reason. Videos like this really make me want to kick my butt in gear.
Do you still get the views when someone downloads the video and then view it later? I live remote so sometimes I’m watching a downloaded video and I can’t like it as I’m out of service. Both of you are such beautiful people. Thank you for making videos
Hey Elle, just wanted to let you know that you are mission accomplished for me. I wasted a bunch of money trying out fantasy books until I found your channel. Apparently we have very similar taste because you haven't steered me wrong yet!
I personally could care less how much money the Booktuber is making. I’m not knocking those that want to know, but I don’t think it has to do with being transparent all the time. I genuinely don’t think it’s any of my business.
I notice that two of my popular booktuber have 2 channels about book and one of them said that because she love to do some video but TH-cam as you said punished her because of the low view in a way that affects the next videos so she decides to make second channels for the books video that she love and TH-cam hates 😅
Looking forward to seeing this amazing video as it contains two of my very favourite ladies from you tube love it 🥰 please stay safe and healthy to you both and your families and also sending you lots of prayers and blessings to you both and your families love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤
I have stopped watching most reading wrap ups from most book tubers because, they are frequently a regurgitation of the synopsis which I can obtain from the publisher's marketing blurb and frequently the publisher is more succinct. Personally, a wrap up that presents the reader's impression and reasoning for that is my expectation. Also, to add, it's those book tubers that read a large volume of books within a defined period that do that regurgitation and, for me, I can see the book tuber is perceiving their reading as a " job", which is not engaging because I want to listen/ view to book tubers that are, for the most part, loving their reading journey.
That makes sense. It’s interesting because some people get upset if you say more than just the synopsis, because they feel like it’s spoilery-even if you’re mostly talking about how you feel. I think that’s a small percentage of people, though!

I would definitely be down for a part 2 on this topic - on the money side or anything else you didn’t get time to talk about. Loving this series!
Thank you, we’ll definitely be making more :D

I really enjoyed listening to this conversation. I found the topic and what you both had to say very insightful and helpful.

I found this very interesting. Thanks for the video! I really enjoy these collab videos between you two as I enjoy both your channels. 😊
Well thanks! Jessie is the best :D
I absolutely love this discussion. Watched every minute of it. Thank you both so much! I would love to watch more in-depth book tube chats.
This was a great video. You 2 are so funny which is why I watch both of your channels. I also don't have a lot of people to talk to books about so watching booktube helps me get recommendations etc. Looking forward to your next video.

I am loving this video!!! Plus I love both of your channels. I subscribed to Jessie when she had 600 subscribers😊
So sorry for your loss. Sending prayers up for your family.

That’s very frustrating. I wish TH-cam would fix some of those issues, especially since it seems to impact smaller creators the most
Great video…love theses long discussions!

That’s not rambly! I’ll let her know about that video suggestion 😄
This was great! Good job! I was just going to watch a little of the video but I ended up watching the whole thing and loved it!
I love when that happens 😄
I've been really wanting to start a Booktube channel for ages, but have been procrastinating for no reason. Videos like this really make me want to kick my butt in gear.
Incredibly helpful discussion!! Thank you!!
You’re very welcome :D

We’re adding it to the list 😊

Thanks for the kind words!
@@ebnovels you are welcome 🙏
loved hearing from your guys' perspectives! :)
Ah, yay, thank you!
you definitely shouldn't panic about the fourth wing review it was so entertaining.
I’m just curious as to how you would categorize booksandlala’s channel because she does Book tube as a job but she clearly has a passion for it.
I think the videos about book didn't die even that the views didn't hit as it uploaded but it accumulate by the time.
This was such a great discussion! However, I have to ask - HOW do you edit youtube videos on your phone? I wouldn't even think of doing it that way.
I use an app called InShot which I love!
Yeahh thank goodness for youtube! I don't think I will meet anybody in real life that is into fantasy or sci-fi books.

I had noticed many of your intros begin like the lesson plans teachers are now trained to write in college.
Haha, well that’s not intentional, but that’s amusing 😂
