you could also put the hook on the bottom and have a differently-oriented drop spindle. I think I have one like that, somewhere.

I think I played with mine like a cat more than I spun anything :) It was a great experiment though. Much harder than it looked watching Jenifer.

Spinning is more of a body motion than a thinking activity. Like riding a bike, it takes time to learn the motions. Beth, I can spin like crazy but i can't clap and sing at the same time.
