    Your kids are precious (both your class and your offspring). Gotta love how much respect your class has for you and support they give you. I truly hope to develop those types of relationships in my school. I did an okay job this year but I hope to to improve more and more

    It’s really comforting to know that my eighth graders are right on par w/ your high schoolers in the weirdness factor.

    Totally understand reading in character. As a theatre teacher, it is a total and complete drag when students read a play with the lowest amount of energy and enthusiasm possible. I have a period class that can be a bit rowdy but they respect me and put a lot of energy into reading plays and another that’s like low energy city....

    I love this video. It gives me a lot of inspiration as to things I could do to help and enrich my students. Thank you so much for all of your videos.

    Mr Reynolds, I agree with you on not making it easy for kids to be lazy. However, for a number of kids not doing work and not getting any credit is just fine with them. They might scrape by or not even pass, but being adolescents they find it hard to really consider the consequences. What I found that works really well is to always expect them to do the work. They might be late or have incomplete work and there are consequences for that (losing points in the class-wide gamification, having to stay after school, etc.), but I still expect them to hand the work in. And if they can't manage on their own. They will stay with me after school and I will help them get organised and get things done.
    The same with testing. There is no reason to accept that a student gets a failing grade. They might get a failing grade because they find it really difficult (happens very rarely) or because of not putting in enough work (most of the time). I will not accept failing grades. So that means that they get extra help after school in a tutor hour or just a study hour if they find it hard to find the concentration at home. And then they will retake the test. And if necessary they will retake the test again.
    Having students fail test and just moving on, feels to students like we don't care about them actually knowing what they had to learn for the test. And if we don't care wether or not they have mastered it, why teach it? So all students always reach a passing grade, because we do not give up on kids.

    I totally agree with your thoughts on homework! I rarely give it, but you’d better do it when I do. I do not baby my kids. They’re 8th graders in a high school credit class, so they need to earn their grades.

    • @CJReynolds
      @CJReynolds  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t do make work either. It’s a hard thing for kids to learn but I think it’s a great lesson.

      Real Rap With Reynolds sadly my district mandates that we give make up work. The kids still don’t do it. I had a child cry over her progress report because she’s failing my class. She’s only turned in one assignment! Besides, I’m immune to tears unless you’re sick or injured or someone has died.

    hello mr. reynolds... what advice will u give me as a Filipino teacher who will be joining the cultural exchange program and be teaching in the US?

    • @CJReynolds
      @CJReynolds  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. That's a great question. One of my favorite friends is from the Philippines and he teaches here in the US and he is fantastic! In short I would say 1. learn who your students are and what they like. It will give you someting to talk about and to base your lessons on. 2. Be consistent. 3. Be yourself. Don't be what you think you are suppose to be. Let me know if I can help with anything going forward. You can email me at realrapwiththereynolds@gmail.com

    My teachers are the same way with homework. Also, y'all get to read books aloud in class! I wish we did that it would make English Class so much more fun.

    • @CJReynolds
      @CJReynolds  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish you did too. Do you guys read independently?

    • @ansleylowe7256
      @ansleylowe7256 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Real Rap With Reynolds yeah we read all our books on our own, which is usually about 3 per quarter. I don't mind reading on my own when it's an SSR book, but when it is a book that is tested on I feel it is much more beneficial to read as a class because it opens up more discussion points and in my opinion helps to gain a better understanding of the book.

    I found your videos a little while ago and I am loving them. You have a real charisma about you that seems to really engage your students and the viewers of your channel. I was wondering if you had any advice for people wanting to become teachers? I am looking at becoming an English/Drama teacher here in Australia and would love your opinion on teaching and how you find it.

    "I don't care..." Man, this is exactly how I feel as a teacher about things like students not doing well because they didn't study. However, whenever I say this around my colleagues, they look at me like I'm crazy and insensitive.
