I fell asleep in the park I was homeless and in the night occasionally woke - there is lots of bugs and I was under a tree- I’d wake occasionally to hear bats flying over my head, practicing manuvers and catching bugs. It was gorgeous! It was soothing and strange. I loved it. ❤
*hawk captures bat* Fran: "yep :D" Maya: "no 🥹" Fran: "circle of life 😌" But this is actually really cool. I thought bats only existed in the groups of hundreds to thousands but not up to millions so woah :0
Imagine you're a vampire. Why use a coffin, just turn into a bat during the day and go in there. What is Van Helsing gonna do, ram a wooden stake through 15 million bats one after the other?
Depends on the lore. Some vampires have to sleep in coffins filled with soil from their homeland, in order to survive (along with the standard issue consumption of blood, of course).
Honestly I wish I could live in a place where a bat colony is, all your bug problems will be solved and you get to see them flying around. I would imagine they get pretty loud but it's background noice to sleep to 💜 We need more bats in the world
Sorry Nerdge Moment: Batman was scared of bats and did not like them, he became "batman" because it was a literal embodiment of his fears so thats why he chose to be batman not cause he liked bats
I like living in nature, camping and stuff, but I could never be able to live in a place where I have to wear boots because snakes, scorpions or spiders run around. I lived in a house for a few years where every single day I'd see big tarantulas and armed spiders. We had to check the bed before going to sleep and sometimes we would wake up and big spiders would be hanging from the ceiling. It was a nightmare.
You don’t need boots for coachwhips lol. They are completely harmless and will only bite you if you step on them or pick them up. Even if they did it wouldn’t hurt much at all. A cat play bite would probably hurt worse
Looking at that "bat river" reminds me of the turtle scene in Finding Nemo. Disney needs to make a bat 🦇 movie. I can't picture it the sea turtles in finding Nemo, but bats
Podcast people, look up Ologies if you’re not already familiar, it’s an educational podcast that brings on various experts in dif fields, and they have one on bats. I listened to the ones on moss, trees, bats, pelicans, clouds, and more on a long drive. Delightful host, very much an adorable dork like Maya.
I grew up in Houston within walking distance of the bat bridge there and it's always so incredible to see them emerge in the evenings! This is so cool, thank you for sharing about how important bats are!
BATS!! the population around my home has dwindled in the past couple years and i was worried we didn’t have them anymore but i spotted two hunting the other day :D reminder that their habitat is being destroyed and more than 200 species are endangered so leave dead trees alone (if they aren’t a risk to you or someone’s property) and research bat houses, you can install them in your yard or on the side of buildings for them to roost in!!
@@cinotaoat I used to work cleaning in the hospital, mainly in the OR's 😂 There's so much stuff I've seen, so many fluids and solids. The OR is a closed off room cause it needs to be so clean so if there's a stink in there it STINKS. After a minute or so you won't smell it anymore. Obviously some smells are worse than others and some smells "reactivate". But guano is one of the "better" smells when it comes to bad smells lol
When you put your hands up overhead, as the bats were flying over in the evening, if it was me I'd do same thing. It'd be so awesome to see in real life. The video is great, but the whole bat-nado must of been pretty impressive to see in person.
A kind of an ' Alveus' ( a channel in a river...) in the atmosphere , if you will ....😃. Bat spectacles like the one you have in Austin there, are common on the Colorado river in Parker were lots of people at sunset watch bats feeding . In Big River ( just north of there ) people sit by the occasional swimming pool or river and watch the insects slowly disappear as the bats feed... in northern Maine if ya go out when it's dark ,the air fills up with them. All night long they're out there feeding . In Yucatan there are bats in every cave almost and there's lots of caves on that whole peninsula .
Fun fact about Guano, wars were fought over it in South America and many leaders in the area from the time of the guano rush are well known for how rich the country got. It is seagull guano and not bat guano tho
theres only 14,435,821 bats, i want a refund
You count well 😅
bro counted 💀
Me too!
There’s actually only 13,768,087 bats ☝️🤓
Its the star trek cigarette controversy all over again
I love that Peach is now an Alveus/animal exploration side character
Snakes snatching flying bats out the air?
That's metal AF.

There's also a centipede (the Amazonian Giant Centipede) that hangs from the ceilings of caves and lunges down to catch bats as they fly past
@@J75Pootleeuguhah, I can’t imagine looking up in a cave and seeing giant hanging centipedes 🤢👎
From a "Batnado" too...
It's like if competitive cyclists wore waterbottles and the spectators snatched them as they went past
"Bats only beyond this point" - that sign is so cute 😄

Bats have always been my favourite animal in terms of designs in media and everything.
I even have bat stickers on my window cuz i love them so much.
Have a hawk slammed your window yet?

I can't even imagine what a 100 foot high pile of bat poop would look like lul
Great monetary value, look up the guano wars.
mostly like a bunch/floor of dirt probably, their poop is super tiny and then getting further decomposed by beetles below
not even a pile, a layer completely carpeting the bottom of the cave
Kinda looks like dirt but does NOT smell like dirt.
Thanks for bringing awareness to 🦇🦇 They're very important!
if there can be 6 sharknado movies we can make batnado happen folks 👏
I planned a trip to central texas purely because of this stream, its so sick
Nah i'd jump outta my socks if i just walked up on that snake
Batman is probably on you now. He's like "Leave my children alone."
His children are all robins. Maya should be fine
Haha 😂

Maya makes learning about animals so dang fun!
I bet whoever edited this video is really cool and hot and cool and swag
I think my life was better before I knew about the flesh eating bugs 😭

Ackshually, 15 million would make it the 18th largest mammalian colony, after 17 human cities.
I was gonna say!
Yeah, not so fun fact: by biomass humans comprise about 34% of all animal life, and livestock account for 62%. Wildlife is just 4%...
The cave is smaller than the cities.

The videography and editing is perfect on this video!! Gives it a documentary feel while still staying true to mayas style. Nice job!
