3 years ago my Wife and I visited in late August. We left Mobile, Al. with 112 degree heat index. We finally were able to walk outside from airports in Marquette. It was about 70 degrees. We both felt like we just landed in Heaven.
You did land in Heaven! It doesn't get too hot here in the Keweenaw - we have Lake Superior keeping us cool. Most summers we'll get a few days in the 90s, sometimes reaching 100ºF. But average is 75-85.
@@berrymcockiner3906 I have no desire to even try. When it gets below 50 degrees I'm breaking out the thermal underwear! I belong on the Gulf Coast. I spent my first 19 years near Escanaba and couldn't get out fast enough. The next 37 years have been spent in Coastal Alabama. I still go to the U.P. every other year to see friends, but only in summer. I n those 37 years I never had to scrape a windshield, shovel snow, chop a hole in the ice just to catch a fish, or watch my truck rust before my very eyes. I still love Michigan with a passion, I always will. But I am going to be at least 1000 miles south of it during winter. Have a good day, Berry!
I seem to make it up into the Keweenaw at least once per winter; spent a week in Houghton last winter, and a week in Calumet this winter. I’ve loved every minute of it and can’t wait to come back!
WoW.....great job Devin, Amanda and Cassy! You captured the spirit of the area with great filming and even better people. I sometimes takes for granted all the treasures at our fingertips. Thanks for making me fall in ❤️ with my home all over again.
Nice presentation! It really shines a light on the varied and vibrant aspects of the area. If I was looking for a place to settle, I'd give it a look for sure.
My Great Great grandad opened the 1st mine in Keweenaw and we still own the land and mineral rights. We also ran Freda mill where we refined it. My Grandma's house still stands on shores of Lake superior Freda. I hunt in backwoods and have come across many abandoned mine shafts
The kewana peninsula of upper Michigan is a very remote area average snowfall for the year maybe 6 ft if not more very remote like I said but pretty country up there my nephew was up there in college for a while he did not like it two remote for him he's a big city boy just like his jackass father and he probably is just like him cuz he's an engineer I guess I don't know what my nephew is doing
it is a beautiful place but take it from a tech graduate. winter is hard here. you don't know what i'm talking about until you have lived it. if you think chicago winters are long you have no idea what you're in for here.
I've lived in Michigan all my 67 years, I'm retired, the last place I would live is there, especially in the winter! I'd visit during summer & fall ...but winter is out of the question! I'm done shoveling snow and driving in a blizzard!
Remember that scene in 'Fire Down Below' when the locals in that small town told Steven Seagal, "You better git. Yeah, just git."? Seagals' response was, "I kinda like it here and I'm thinking of settling down :)
I know, you want to keep it all for yourself. I would, too. Keweenaw may have more money now but I wish those rich people hadn't bought up the shore and started putting up mcmanchions. If the Mandan road ever gets paved you'll know it's, too far gone. Best memory of copper harbor is the breeze off Superior and the bouy bell ringing off and on all night.
That's it!
I'm selling everything and moving up there.
So incredibly beautiful.
Go there in the winter before you do.
My father lived in Hubbell. I haven't been back since I was 14 (now 61). I would say I am due.

Let’s see how many winters you will last old man!

Copper county cruising...every weekend while at Tech. Fishing, hunting, cliff climbing, eating, drinking....ohhh and then studying
That sounds about right!!
You bet eh, class of 71
What a great video! Living here my entire life, I sometimes take for granted what lies in my backyard.
I'm so homesick! I wish I never had to leave.

What an excellent description of the areas. We're moving up to Hancock in a few months (Retirement) and I am excited!!
how are you enjoying your retirement in the keweenaw? you didn't say much about why you chose this place or where you're moving from.
Fantastic! So much has changed yet so much is the same.

Love it u.p. there!
What a well-produced and persuasive video !! We are seriously considering moving there... from Germany. ^_^
It looks much nicer now on the canal but I preferred the old because I could fish all up and down the road lol can't do that now.

More like 200+ inches my friend
No matter what, the experience has changed him. Noone can go into copper country and not come out changed.
Haha. No floods. Till Fathers Day 2018.
Btw, absolutely love Houghton! ❤️✅💯
So WELL DONE! And all true!
Can you post a (up to date)video of the damage to McLain park from Lake Superior?
Thank you

Daniel Harper ... you were a student. Live and work 50 years in the rat race and you’ll be running to live and retire in a place like this.

Devin...do you have any relatives in Green at, Wisconsin
Where are the public sledding hills?
Lots of national parks, state parks. Skiing
Welcome to the UP.Then Go Home!!
That's not a very friendly thing to say.
Russell, I am headed to the UP this week.

well, here I was thinking it would be a biology video and it turns out to be a better business bureau sales pitch for tourism.
