Lots of great choices here. The surprise is the The Secret Dragonfly: Frank Morino and Mahogany Rush. I believe he's a Montrealer who had a few local hits. Great player.
Great blues album list for heavier fans (pun intended). If you come from heavy rock and want a blues edge, check out this 1969 band, "Cactus" (Appice, Bogert, McCarty, Day). I recommend the albums "Cactus" 1970 and "One Way or Another" 1971. Band later morphed into Beck, Bogert, Appice, with *that* Beck.
Wasn't gonna get any good odds on Still Got The Blues being on the list - but it absolutely deserves to be there. Fantastic intro to blues if you're coming from listening to rock and metal - Gary's playing was unbelievable. I have to say, I listen to his Blues Alive album a lot more though.
Great list John! I was introduced to guitar through SRV and Gary Moore and have always loved the blues. A couple of albums I’m not familiar with on this list which I will check out (frank marino being one!j I would be interested in other viewers suggestions to further educate me, as I’m not a huge ‘heavy’ blues rock fan. If I could suggest an album it would be Joe Bonamassa’s Live at the Greek Theatre. Blistering high gain blues licks from JoBo and a great intro to the legendary three Kings (Albert, Freddie & BB)
You know, I think that was a damn good list for someone coming to the blues from metal, John, - think I would have gone for some Robert Johnson and Skip James, Muddy maybe, BB maybe, Peter Green's Mac, Beano Album. God actually distilling it down into only 5 albums is really hard! Everybody who plays the Blues should listen to Magic Sam's Boogie, actually everyone alive should listen to Magic Sam's Boogie! See you friday, Mam out of hospital so should be able to tune in :)
You’re definitely right as metal fans mellowing out. I have always liked the heavier stuff starting out with guns n roses, Metallica, slayer, sepultura, W.A.S.P, sabbath and strangely always listen to Jimi Hendrix. And have been heavily into blues since 2020 during that thing. As for blues if you want to go down the rabbit hole you have to listen to Robert Johnson, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and BB King. For British Blues Peter Green with The Super-Natural from A Hard Road album by John Mayall & the Blues breakers for the legendary sustain of a 59 Les Paul. Robin Trower is another player I discovered recently which had me ask how the hell did I missed his music for all my life so far? On the more rock side of things Mountain the song nantucket sleigh ride will resonate with the guys in their 50’s, Free ( Fire and Water album) Then there’s the blues guys who got discovered later on in their lives RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. You have some picks I’ve never heard of so will definitely have a listen and as for SRV say no more he’s something else 👍
I think missing out Rory Gallagher (from any "modern" blues list) is a serious omission. The difficulty is in deciding which album.

Robin Trower Someday Blues is one I like...
Oooh I do like a bit of Robin T!
20th Century blues album 👍
He tuned a whole step down for that one. Fun to play all the wild bends.
@@richardbro999 Yes tough when your new and trying to work it out, but its still his best album for my taste, love it.

it's always subjective, no right, no wrong with choice. But I would recommend our greatest white blues player ever, Peter Green.
Jeff Healey - see the light
Robben Ford - talk to your daughter
And any of Rory Gallagher's live albums....
Great to see Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush Live being recommended! Those who know, know - them that don’t need to hear it! 🎸👍
Very relieved to see “still got the blues” made the list! 👍
Great video ! I’ve never been a really convinced metal fan, but I love these recommendations!
Mellowing into middle age? Still planning a midlife crisis before it’s too late! Considering some options 💪😉👍
Divorce the other half and move to Thailand is a popular option 😂

Hi John, Some great choice's.Dig the T shirt! Take heed!!!! You might have the police smash your door in and arrest you for being far right!!!!!😅
No, it would have to just be the English flag if John was of that persuasion, not the union flag
check out grooveyard records for heavy blues cds .the blindside blues band for 1
ZZ Top Tres Hombres
