    Well, I built one. The kids and grandkids love it. Mine cost about $1000 but it’s worth every penny. These guys planned it out well. The most expensive part is the end caps! If you can find a way to trim that price, it would help tremendously.
    My grandkids have paid me back with a few thousand smiles, laughs and giggles. It’s only been up a few weeks.

    We took your idea and made one, and our hardware store gave us everything so they could have there name on the side of it, at our haunted house. it was Great. Thank you for showing us this.

    The first time I saw on of these slides, I had my doubts. After the first time I went down, I was hooked. I think they are more fun than a regular slide.

    I think it is a great idea to install items like this slide to make your house a fun place to go to. Kids need anchors like a fun place to go and people who create fun experiences. I am currently having a swimming pool built. The fiberglass slide that goes into the pool will cost $8000 so $800 - $1000 seems very reasonable. It looks safe too. Thanks, guys! Love it! I am on it!

    Wow! I was hoping to see a full sized person try the slide aswel! Amazing work! I didn't expect her to slide at a slower rate and slowed momentum! Neat how weight adds that much speed!

    Suggest using PVC pipes, bolted to your posts, as side rails instead of the 2x6's. This can prevent splinters for anyone who happens to drag a hand along the rail.

    John Treadgold brings up some valid points that I would like to respond to. First of all, we don't pretend to know what your local zoning ordinances or building codes are for your part of the country or world. Be sure to do your research on that before putting this in a commercial operation. Secondly, this is not intended to be a tool safety video. Please take proper precautions when using power tools. We officially recommend using steel toe boots, safety glasses, ear plugs, hard hats, cut-resistant gloves, self retracting razor knives, power tools with proper guards, Emergency shut-offs and any other safety steps not mentioned here.
    We will try to do a better job in future videos to point out what safety precautions should be taken even if we don't follow them ourselves. If you were to look into our personal lives you would also find that we ride bikes without helmets, occasionally operate a vehicle without wearing a seat belt, sky dive, ride bulls, and even occasionally run with scissors so please don't use us as the authority on safe living but we will try to be more responsible in pointing out best safety practices in any future videos.

      Agritourism Ideas Personally, I think you should add a disclaimer in the beginning so that you don't have to bother dealing with 'men' whining about their own safety. This idea is for the slide is interesting. Would I complain to you if my child had a small accident? Of course not. It is my own personal responsibility for my safety.

That way we can weed out all the stupid people who would hold a drill to their heads and pull the trigger or the people who manage to some how get their arms cut off in the sliding compound miter saw. Population control.... let the stupid ones take themselves out first...... lmfao

    A "slide sponsor?" I'm looking for a lumber sponsor to donate materials for my new home.

  • @agritourismideas6908
    @agritourismideas6908  6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    There have been several comments about the cost being $800 and that it could be built for less. Keep in mind that the domed PVC end caps will cost a minimum of $200 just by themselves as 90 of them are needed. Pressure treated lumber is not cheap in 16' lengths, etc.. etc... The $800 estimate is what you would pay retail at your local Home Depot or comparable. This is why we encourage those that are using this for an Agritourism Business to find a plumbing or hardware store to sponsor!

    • @maggiesatterfield2402
      @maggiesatterfield2402 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no way I would pay $800 for the MATERIALS alone for just a slide when I could buy the entire gym for $1500 to $2000 made out of just as good a quality material. That is nuts.

    • @agritourismideas6908
      @agritourismideas6908  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Agreed. Makes no sense for a home owner. An Agritourism business on the other hand (which is what this channel is intended for) is where it does make sense. When you are dealing with 10's of thousands of guests in a 6 week period you need something that can handle constant use, is unique and fits the farm environment, and can allow for LOTS of kids to enjoy. Playsets with swings, fort, etc... do not meet any of that criteria. We do not suggest this as an alternative to a home swing set with slide.

      You don't need the endcaps if you have some extra wood, make a round insert with a hole. A bit more work but if you really want to save a few bucks. Making it a bit more narrow will also save you a few more bucks.

    this is a great project guys but, seems like it would be better if PVC or metal pipes be used for guard rail in fear of splinters. i know the wood has been sanded and edges routed for smoothness but, over time it will have to be done over or replaced but, who am i to say. you guys are truly professionals.

    I've Almost finished my version. I used 110mm sewer pipe so it was a little bigger, I then cut 60 discs to go inside each sewer pipe with another hole {50mm} in side that, like a donut. I did this to keep the axel central.
    I then used old scaffolding pipes which were fed though each sewer pipe with the 2 donut discs on each end, which are attached to a frame.
    I'm a little worried about my spacing between each pipe but I'm not sure that matters too much, I think it's less than a cm

    I wanted to respond to the concerns over pinched fingers with this slide. Without seeing this in action up close and not fully understanding how pinch points work I can see how there may be concern but we have literally had over 100,000 people enjoy this slide over the years at our venues without report of a single pinched finger, stuck hair, clothes being torn off (as one comment suggested), etc.. Not to suggest that this (or any slide) is 100% safe but if setup with the correct size and spacing of rollers, angle of the slide, proper testing and supervision, etc... this has proven to be safer than any swing set, bounce house or other alternative we have tested over the years. This is not intended for home use as this channel is directed at Agritourism Businesses that need unique activities that can handle tens of thousands of kids in a 6 week period in the fall.

    Why do you have the plastic pipe so big? I was thinking of doing it with 3/4 emt conduit with 1" pvc over it and greasing the area between the conduit and pvc. Also is all that extra framing really necessary? If you just put a screw through the wood and conduit where they meet wouldn't all that conduit be plenty strong enough?

  • @mttpsg00
    @mttpsg00 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    it's very nice because you bounce on the pipes and don't get a high speed, which usually produces big momentum at the exit on normal sliders and that causes problems. which is not the case here.

  • @kansasross
    @kansasross 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I believe I could build this project for about $300 by some simple re-engineering. First, about your materials. When Home Depot receives wood products, if a board contains a knothole or a damaged corner, or has a problem with a curve in the last two feet of a 2 X 4, they put it in their scrap bin. This wood is entirely usable if you can ignore the small blem. This wood they sell at 30% of retail. If you have a saw, you can cut off that last two feet of a 16-foot 2 X 4 and presto, you have a perfect 14' 2 X 4.
    Next, if either of you is a veteran, Lowes will give you a 10% discount on anything. Home Depot on anything but lumber.
    For the axes of the PVC tubes, you do not need full-length pieces of conduit, just four inches at each end, secured with an extra 2 X 4 along each main frame. You only need the conduit where it contacts the end caps. Drill with the same size hole to match the frames. On this extra rail drill a tiny hole through this wood and drive a tight nail through the wood and into the short piece of conduit. This will strengthen the conduit and hold it in place. No need to drill the conduit, the wood will hold the nail in place as you hammer it into the conduit.
    Next, don't use PVC end caps, they are far too expensive. Instead, use wood from scrap
    2 X 4s, cut out with a hole saw to fit in the end of the PVC pipes. Then drill the pilot hole larger with a 3/4" drill. Insert these rounds in the ends of the PVC pipe and attach them there with two dry wall screws to hold them in place. Then add a washer between the wood cap and the conduit piece and you won't need a dome at all.
    By the way, I never spend money on washers. I get them for free from my bank in the form of foreign coins. Then I drill holes in them and I have all the free washers I need. I suppose you could also use US pennies and nickels, but I am not suggesting that you do so.
    I could go on, but I want to eat breakfast. I am a former design engineer with IBM. I have done nothing but look at your video one time and these design elements jump out of my computer screen immediately. Ross Murphy, Shawnee, Kansas at Suprwedr@sbcglobal.com. (I am the inventor the the SuperWeeder hand tool for gardeners; it does one thing extremely well: it kills lots of weeds quickly, thousands, and they don't come back. )

    • @dantepisani890
      @dantepisani890 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Drew Everett How would the conduit distribute weight evenly across the whole roller when it only contacts the roller at the ends? And how would the roller develop camber when it's a roller? Over time, the weight of people going over it would be applied in all directions.
      Fucking dumb ass.

    You can build this for under $300 bucks if you shop online or utilize commercial supply warehouses and not home improvement stores. "PVC fittings online" has the end caps at $1.75 each but cheaper bulk if you get a quote. They can also supply the pipe but I would recommend getting it at a contractor supply house in 20 foot increments. Put it this way, I got 12 inch PVC pipe in a 15 foot piece for 90 bucks at one... 3 inch will be a lot cheaper. I wish people would think a bit more to save themselves a lot of money...

    I like it but what if someone with long hair gets caught? Or if one chooses to lay down while sliding, could their hair be ripped off?

    We have a 6 foot deck height treehouse. Could this sort of slide be safe at the height?

    Please use a sheild with a cutoff wheel, and a facesheild. Those things can do a lot of damage when they break.

    Hey guys, nice job. Have you considered using 20' back to back unistrut with conduit strut straps and conduit on bottom with strut covers and edge guards. Strut can come in steel, stainless, fiberglass etc. Interchangeable, adjustable, modular. I like this design. I will use it one day for my daughter. Thanks again guys

    Let me point out a safety concern I see in this video. At 3:20 you are cutting pipe and I notice the safety shield has been removed from the angle grinder. A year or so back I was with a small group that went out for dinner, during that dinner one of my friends got a call, his best friend had just been killed in a very preventable accident. He was using an angle grinder with an abrasive disk, and the shield had been removed, much like what was shown in the video, the disk shattered and a piece entered his chest and severed his aorta, he bled out before the ambulance could get there. There is great temptation to remove the safety shields from many small tools, this can be a very dangerous habit, please leave those in place, they really do make a difference.

      Was thinking similar, even missing fingers can be avoided, as well as aiming the sparks away from you and the grinder!

    Pinch points aside, I am concerned at hard objects like vertical rail supports next to fast moving children.
    I suggest that at the halfway point, and at the bottom vertical supports you merely encase the bare wood in brightly colored pool noodles made of soft foam.
    Children hitting hard wood supports at speed is my only concern.
    (sand down the corners on all wood surfaces, and inspect for splinters is my last idea.)
