    1965/1966? The cars give a good timeline. I grew up in Rhymney and then Penarth. I remember this as if it was yesterday. My father worked for Jet Petrol and the BBC in Cardiff and every Saturday we would go into the city. Wonderful days.

    I was brought up in cardiff, this brings back vivid memories. I remember the buses came off the wires quite often though especially doing the fancy stuff shown on some shots here. Thank you.

      Trolley buses often had to be stopped because the pole disconnected, but they were so quiet and never complained about steep hills, such as Grand Avenue in Ely. Remember the Gabalfa terminus very well. Of course the Council got rid of them - they were clean, and needed a certain amount of maintenance!!

    My mum and dad met while working on the buses..... Just think it could have been them on one of those many buses made me smile

    Being from Clive Road in Canton in 1951,you can't imagine the memories this has brought back, and yes I saw it as the Bus passed,10a or 10b great for getting to the General Station.

    I used to catch these as a kid, I loved how they we're totally silent when stopped at the bus stop.

    The last single deck trolleybuses to enter service in the UK were Glasgow's TBS12 - 21 the famous 35ft long Burlingham bodied BUTs which entered service late 1958 and early 1959.

    I remember these Trolleybuses well, the terminus at Gabalfa wasn't far from Pantbach Road where I stayed with my aunt & uncle. Some had the family name YAPPS GARAGES displayed on the side. They were "Green" before their time with no fumes & quiet running. We need something like them now.

      We cannot have a bus station in the centre of cardiff where it always have been the greedy council sold it to b.b.c. What I would like to know is where is all the money going

    Superb footage, it reminds me of how our councillors have allowed our city to become a clone of many others.

      Absolutely agree. Cardiff had its own uniqueness. Councillors should be shot, then hanged, then tortured & then shot again. They think they're so important, but they never listen to their constituents. Ever. Sorry, I'm angry.

    Great footage, who had the bright idea of changing the traditional and tasteful livery from maroon and cream to that ghastly orange?

    • @wendyharper9454
      @wendyharper9454 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some whizkid in the Council, no doubt. Even now, orange has gone. Such a waste of money. But.... Bus Conductors were the worst loss of all.

      It happened when I worked there early 70s, it was supposed to be for improved visibility and lead to less accidents, or at least that was what they said at the time in The Echo. I can’t say what actually happened.

    You have to remember Cardiff City Council thought it was important to replace the trolleybuses with diesel buses because the trolleys didn't pollute the environment enough.

    Hi Cardiff333UK,
    I'm a Video Producer at Wales Online, I was just wondering if we could perhaps use your video for our site? We're really fascinated by it.
    Many Thanks
