That way, people know what they are getting into before they click on the video.
Plus, it's more convenient and relates to the topic of the video.

If we switched all plastic items to glass, that wouldn't be sustainable either. We'd probably run out of sand. Unless we can somehow use sand from the desert. We'd likely need to change our consumer habits as well as switching to compostable alternatives or at least less wasteful biodegradeable stuff.

Why is this homogenous plastic bottle rant entitled "Why you should never buy liquid hydroponic nutrients"? Hydroponics uses up to ninety percent less fresh water than conventional agriculture. You can, of course, choose hydroponic nutrients in powder form too. Liquid products are available in highly concentrated forms and are arguably easier to use. Hydroponics, in one form or another, is a big part of our food producing future so why create this faux polemic?

    • @BoogieBrew
      @BoogieBrew 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

+Everest Fernandez (Just4Growers) All hydro ferts are made from oil & gas. You don't have to buy anything, (not even our fab tea product), to get great gardening results. Just compost / wood-chips/ worm-manure and rotational / companion-planting. Good eco-based gardening techniques save the most water of all, (conventional farming with synthetic ferts and "dead" topsoil washes water straight down the drain).

@Everest Fernandez most of these nutrients exist because of Cannabis cultivation (even if no company will outright say this is there largest market) and everybody should know hydro just makes things more complicated for the novice grower and no matter how good you are plants will always thrive in peak optimal health growing the natural way in nutrient rich soil cannabis quality especially benefits growing organically although you can produce top shelf bud with hydro its easier to let nature do the heavy lifting for us feeding the plants for us instead of leaving it up to our imperfect selves to feed the plants when they need to be fed, we cant outdo nature and need to just work with it instead of against it.

I agree that they're ranting for the first half of the video, but they do eventually point out that powders are cheaper (and less likely to use plastic, which I consider a minor benefit).
I'm just gonna mix a (plastic) bottle of powdered fertilizer and then dose from that for a while, instead of buying more expensive liquid fertilizer.
By the way, it's perfectly possible that liquid fertilizer can be cheaper than powders - it'd be fairly easy to evaporate the liquid and compare the price of the remaining powder, or even test them chemically. But I get the feeling that liquid ones are always gonna be more expensive because of the economy of scale and spoilage issues. Powders are used industrially, which lowers the cost for the rest of us, and it stores better.

I had a toxic reaction to chemicals that almost killed me in 2013. Since then I have slowly reduced my meat consumption and increased my fruits and veggie consumption, mainly through juicing. I have tried to go with natural products (soaps, cleaners, etc.) and have cut down on my use of plastics. The doctors were not sure of what caused my illness, but was sure that it was a combination of chemicals that almost proved fatal. Trying reduce my use of plastic is just another way for me to stay healthy.

When we started juicing and eating more whole foods and feeling great and energetic , one of the things we noticed was that we did not have to empty the trash as often and our compost area got bigger faster. Lately we have been eating a lot of take out and convenience foods and we have had to empty the trash every two days. Most of it, plastic and styrofoam packaging and the only things going in our compost recently is eggshells and coffee grounds, and you know what? We have no energy and feel achy and tired easily. I would LOVE some tips on how to REALLY get rid of plastic spring water in plastic bottles.
I have heard the advice to use filters (on the faucet, britta, etc), to use distillers and reverse osmosis.
The problem I have with tap water is the added CHEMICALS including chlorine, flouride, etc.
The problem I have with the solutions: distilled and RO are causing mineral leaching in the body of several friends who are now sick BECAUSE of their water "purification". And Britta and co., only remove the "taste" and "odor" of chlorine not the chlorine - according to their packaging. And note britta and faucet filters are usually PLASTIC.
How about a bubble stone like those used in hydroponics to make the water safe enough for plants to drink? (Why is the water NOT ok for them but ok for us? Why is the bubbled water ok for them but not for us?)
How about distilled water to which is added diatomaceous earth overnight and or DE with red clay (such as from tractor supply) - will that remineralize the water?
How about boiling the water? Does that remove chlorine and flouride and all the other chemicals? Boil then filter? ........?
      HELP.
Any SERIOUS help would be appreciated.
As for going 100% plastic free, I don't see that as a realistic option except in daily choices like water bottles etc. My ref is plastic, car is plastics, thermostat, wiring, outlets, vinyl siding, carpets, flooring, cushions, computer, you know the list .....
But I can stop buying plastics on a regular basis.

Hell YES! The first Josh rant I heard was the one from the cannabis and coconut smoothie where the drink caused an unexpected side effect. This one is BETTER! I love to hear this guy speak because he says what EVERY thinking person MUST BE THINKING and he doesn't beat around the bush.
John, you need to tag all of the Josh videos with his name in the keywords so we can search for them - or better yet, create a playlist of them for your channel.
I've been using my own extreme water filtration system for all drinking, cooking and ice-maker water for about a decade now, but before that I'm embarrassed to admit that before that I used gallon water jugs in the house and liter ones on the go. Then one day I had a WTF epiphany when I (finally) realized that wasting a valuable resource like oil to produce throwaway landfill was asinine in the extreme.
And the recycling is, as Josh says, a joke. We can't use the resulting product for any food, drink or medical purpose, so it's used to make plastic park benches, deck "lumber" and other items whose biodegradable half-life is probably something like 100,000 years... like plutonium - or something.
This insanity has to stop ASAP.

Good point! I can't wait till 3D printers are so cheap they're as ubiquitous as microwaves are today. If the material supply could be old bottles...now that would be fucking amazing. Imagine if all the junk most of us have, could be fed into a 3D printer and converted into our imagination. The future is so exciting ( just need to lose governments & their wars ) peer to peer economy will help with that tho...

  • @NathanielPorter1

How else do you propose transporting liquids in food grade, unbreakable containers? Single serve containers are wasteful and our culture does produce far too much trash but this rant is over-generalised.
I've been running a hydroponic/organic urban garden store for 7 years now and we don't only sell liquid fertilizers. Dry organic nutrients are considerably lower in nutrient value than the concentrated liquid products sold and many dry organics are just as heavy for the same volume.
Mineral based hydro nutes work better in a liquid state because of the ionic balance needed for plant uptake, and are far easier for inexperienced growers to measure and dissolve properly into their water, choosing a brand that is more concentrated than another is an easy way to be more 'green'.
Many highly specialized products, incorporating amino acids, humic and fulvic acids, organic extracts and bio fermented metabolism enhancers can only be produced and sold as liquids, and if you have experience and pay attention, you know which products are useful, redundant or inferior. We don't push products, we push knowledge and let you make up your own mind.
Also, I used to sell Boogie brew products, he brews his tea in PLASTIC buckets with water filtered through a plastic filter with nutrients that I sell in my Hydroponic store.
    Hypocritical marketing...

    • @theskeletonboi
      @theskeletonboi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You are making a mistake by thinking that the guy in this video uses logic and facts in his reasoning.
I mean, we're talking about a guy that claimed it takes 100 ml of oil to make 17 ml of plastic, which is only 5% oil.

    • @Dragnphlai
      @Dragnphlai 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@theskeletonboi I thought the implication that Josh was pointing out was that the 100 ml of oil was due to the fuel required to move the weight of the liquid fertilizer that is mostly water to begin with. So the plastic bottle is unnecessary pollution and the form factor of liquid fertilizer is also a waste, and a marketing scam.

    1) I loved this video, love to see the passion in fellow lovers of the environment! 2) It's not just plastic bottles but plastic altogether. About a year ago I finally connected the dots that if I don't support fossil fuels then I should stop allowing plastic in my home, plastic of every kind and there is plastic in and on darn near everything from the sticker on your apple, to the synthetic shirts people wear, the carpets they walk on, to the very bottles you are discussing. So I've made it a point to strive to eliminate ALL plastic. 3) Regarding those refillable water stations, they also sell stainless steel (on lifewithoutplastic.com) that you can use to fill up. Klean Kanteen is also a great stainless steel water bottle source that you can carry around and reuse.
And for a question I have, as I've been having trouble finding a dried plant food that doesn't come in a plastic bag. In fact, partially because I'm vegan, I have been using that exact Vegan fertilizer but have been disappointed that it's in a plastic bag within the box because, to me, plastic is plastic (be it a bottle or bag). So I'm interested in your Boogie Brew and want something truly plastic free, not just plastic bottle free. My question is, is your boogie brew sold in paper only? As in is the packaging only paper, so not lined inside with plastic (since many paper products are deceiving as they will be sold in a box but the fertilizer/food is in a plastic bag, like that Vegan fertilizer, within the box or are in a paper bag that is lined, on the inside, with plastic). Could you please clarify the type of packaging for the Boogie Brew?
Thanks so much for this video! Hope to hear from ya,
    Aubrey
P.S. Other great resources for people who want to learn more about plastic and get themselves off are the Documentary 'Bag It' (which starts with a man eliminating plastic bags and then moving to eliminate plastic completely after he learns more about it), the book 'Plastic Free' by Beth Terry (an incredibly comprehensive book on plastic and how to live without it) as well as her blog myplasticfreelife.com

Organic Grow You know, it's really rude to flood people's inboxes by yelling comments and putting them on every single comment possible. Please don't do this. It makes people less likely to 'thumbs up' something. It's like the people on Instagram who go to every account possible asking for follows. It comes off as both inconsiderate and desperate. Seriously, when quality is good people will vote that way. Let people make their choice without interfering.

Organic Grow You know, it's a lesson I learned when I first went vegan back in 2007. My first year or two as a vegan I preached. I wanted the whole world to know all that I learned. And what I found was that it pushed people away. People don't like to be pushed around and I don't blame them even if, like with you, it's coming from a place of passion and a whole lot of heart for the topic. Now I say, teach don't preach. Do, like you are doing by sharing it, and offering the information to people so they can make their own decision instead of preaching which is telling them what to do.
Do know that I know you spoke from a place of heart. I just wanted to share a lesson I learned some time back. The point is not to lesson your passion but just alter how we share what we've learned, whatever the topic may be.
Cheers to you and a lovely day as well.
      Sincerely,
      Aubrey

People some often refer to it as awake.. The difference between thinking humanity is doing good and in a state of progress, with nothing wrong, and those with brains that havn't been taken over by mind control that know otherwise
Some guy once said .. ''there are those who see, those who see when they are shown, and those that don't see''

Hmm I would have to partially disagree. A lot of people that claim to be "woke" actually just get there information from anti establishment based people and sites. They are not actually looking for real proof of what they get told. Their confirmation bias will make them believe anything that someone who seems to have similar beliefs as them says.
To be truly awake you need to listen to what all sources have to say. Hear both sides arguments. Then look for real science that has been proven again and again. If this science does not exist then do the experiments yourself. If you cannot then you have no sure way of confirming or debunking the information.
Just because someone grows organically or talks about how the "Man" is ripping us off and controlling us does not mean they are more intelligent or wiser. Most of it is paranoia.

And what about energy bars? Six wrappers a box or more from the larger packs. I love Luna bars but I always wonder "what happens to my wrapper"? Times how many thousands of (or more) people eating the same thing? We are a plastic nation. I carry my Kleen Kanteen water bottle everyday and coworkers look at me like I'm really weird, while they guzzle from their plastic water and sports drink bottles. Then they comment about how they don't drink soda pop and they are much healthier then people who do. So I like to direct them to the ingredients listed in their sport drink and the fact they are drinking from a plastic bottle. You are not drinking a healthy drink! Thanks for the great information and inspiration.!! Thank You, I will make more changes in my life.

I suppose my obvious neophyte question would be are any of the essential broad spectrum feeding and supplement compounds you want to add through the growth cycle more optimal or even necessary to stabilize in liquid form given available production techniques, or can you pretty much get a dry form equivalent of everything a plant needs?
I am asking specifically as an alternative for liquid supplements in a coco coir fertigation setup, but it might apply to traditional soil or hydroponics as well.
