    I am a self learner for the last 6 years. I have done lot of research In learning the violin. I mostly play by ear. I was keen to learn the third position fingering. Most of the TH-cam tutoring shows how you get to 3rd position from the first position the rest of of the finger positions are not correctly shown. I came across violin fingering chart which shows all 3 positions. After watching your tutorial I was convinced the fingering positions for G, D & A , E agree with the chart. Thanks for highlighting the information.

    I think it's the best way to fix all the notes on my violin. I knew them but I was unsure how to make a fingers properly to play some mesaure if I found two sharps or flats. It's not easy to think and do a lot of things at the same time ( good sound, fingers position, the bow..) Now, I did the exercise with 2 sharps and I'm so happy. Than you a lot and now I'm waiting for more exercises!!! please!!

      ( a major scale)ok. I did it in the first position because it was simple. In the 3rd I was a little bit unsure, but I did! i put the second finger and compare the sound on the next open string ..so in this it way it was easier . from the 1st finger on G string, I change in third on G string and arrive to A on E string.I don't have a lot of time to study but i will follow you! thanks!!

    Great video. Awesome tool and diagram for learning. Great for whole class I'm sure. So my question is. I literally want to memorize every note in 3rd position. 1st position i have memorized. I realized my 3rd finger knows F# in the 3rd position from practicing some famous songs. Will these scales give me that kind of memorization?

    • @measurebymeasure3605
      @measurebymeasure3605  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes absolutely, but.
      The most important thing to remember is that the right way to learn them is NOT to assign certain notes to certain fingers (your 3rd finger is NOT an F#) but learning where the note is on the violin fingerboard, regardless of which finger you play it with (The F# is just THERE).
      This may sound harder in the beginning but in the long run it will make your position learning much easier and much much faster, it will allow you to play any position at any time without thinking too much about it.
      This is the way, I have spoken ;)

      Yo te recomendaria ir a ver un luthier y seguir los consejos de esta persona mas que ir a un negocio.
      Con eso dicho, la regla general es que cuanto mas caro te salga, mejor va a sonar. Lamentablemente esa es un triste realidad pero para que te suene intocable es porque realmente no inverstiste mucho.

      Yo te diría compra uno que ande por los 800 a 1200 dólares, depende de tu presupuesto claro está.
      Los violines no se devalúan, siempre y cuando lo tengas en buen estado. De última lo vendes en Australia.
      Ojala pudiera ayudarte más, de verdad!
      Hasta cuando te quedas en Argentina? Quizás le pueda preguntar a un amigo que tengo ahí que toca en una orquestita. Alguien debe conocer me imagino.

      @measurebymeasure3605  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand what you´re saying Martine, but no, that is not the way.
      Play the notes while I am playing them in the video and make sure they sound the same.
      Everyone has different finger sizes and even the violin may be different, so giving you an exact measurement in cm or mm is impossible. Also the notes get closer and closer the higher up you are on the violin neck.
      What you have to do is play along and make sure your note sounds the same as in the video. Your fingers will learn the distance by themselves.

      It does not cover all the positions, there are generally speaking 7 positions but the first through 3rd are very important and the most used. Once you get to higher positions you play by feel and ear more than memorizing every single note.
      The first 3 positions are enough to make you a very decent intermediate violin player and you'll be able to play most orchestral works.

    Three questions to you sir...
    1)How can you play more than twelve notes for any scales?
    2)Notes shown in first position are different in second & third position. Why?
    3)Zooming out notes is easier to understand better...yes or no?

    • @measurebymeasure3605
      @measurebymeasure3605  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) You just keep going up the scale. On my videos you go further than just one octave.
      For this position changes are important.
      2) The notes are actually exactly the same it's the fingers you use on them that change.
      3) I am not sure I understand this question.

    Great, but there is a question.When you start playing an instrument, you look at the neck not from above but along it, then it is very difficult to put your fingers on the right note correctly.This is the only instrument when playing on which the blind and the sighted will be almost in equal position.So it's useless to learn all these notes, no one teaches notes on the guitar - the correct distance between notes is important.On the violin -anologically

    • @measurebymeasure3605
      @measurebymeasure3605  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes absolutely. On the violin you use your ears more than your eyes to tell if you're playing the right note. The best thing you can do is not to look at the fingerboard at all.
      The exact position of a note can change on every violin, if the bridge is not in exactly the same position as in another violin then the notes might change, albeit slightly. Practice with your ears, if it sounds right, it's right.
