The dude did almost every alien in Ben 10 Alien Force and Ultimate Alien. Even if they weren’t great series I have to give the guy props for basically carrying all that weight
I’m very glad The Clone Wars exists. • Darth Maul’s return • Anakin Skywalker’s likeability • Ahsoka Tano • Obi Wan and Satine Yeah, what a show this is.
9:00 "This might be the 1st bit of media I've seen that actually made me say: I know what George Lucas was going for with the prequels." That made me so happy to hear you say that, Doug. As someone who loves the prequels (even with their faults), I'm so glad this show exists to help make my favorite era of SW feel more complete.
I've always described the prequels as a beautiful, well meaning, mess. The designs are great, there is a real attempt to tell an epic story of the rise of tyrants and the fall of heroes, but even I can admit that it fell a little flat in the execution; particularly in the writing and acting department. Does it have flaws? Yes (show me a movie that doesn't). But is it as bad as everyone says? For me, no, and I still love them as part of the saga.
I always believed George Lucas has a lot of great ideas but he needs people around him to help with the execution on those ideas cause my biggest problem with the prequels for as much as I never hated them was that Lucas on occasion was focusing on certain Elements in the prequels that should’ve been downplayed and the parts he downplayed should’ve been given more focus but the show really fills in those gaps so it all evens out
@@artsman412 true. a true can love something while pointing out the flaws. the prequels were good, especially when you look at the smaller details and you can see the bits of brilliant storytelling that lucas told or tried to tell. CW just made the prequels better because they were able to tell the stories they couldn't tell in a movie and expand upon the characters that really needed them. i wouldn't go so far as to say CW "fixed" the PT but simply it fleshed it out.
@@Kazzzzzzzzzzzrz I don't think that will work. The prequels had a good story, but it was bogged down with poor writing and acting, so a show that had better writing and acting helped get the story across. The sequels have good acting (even I can admit that), but the story is crap. There's no fixing that, even with a show.
Clone Wars is great. The way it fixes and recontextualizes events from the prequels while telling an interesting story about the rise of the Empire and those who were deceived into making it happen is masterfully done. Not all of the show is amazing, but when it’s great, it’s really great and worth checking out for anyone who loves Star Wars. Even those who don’t normally enjoy animation.
Read episode 3 novel if you want to see how fixing the prequels could work I still believe OT cannot even begin to compare with ep 3 novel because it seems way too inferior to it.
@Super Chaloongis no I meant what made you think he fell for it. I agree red letter media's brainwash is bad but what made you think he doesn't like the prequels.
@Super Chaloongis I am sorry but the prequels have problems and are not perfect. I do think that people over exaggerate those problems and that at worst are mediocre movies but clone did expand on many thins especially other jedi and the clones which makes you care about them when in the movies they meant nothing I know the focus was on anakin's fall but they try to enhance his character even more here to be even better as for me I think plageuis and the rots novel did a pretty good job as well to make those stories even better so instead of fixing, enhancing would be a better word.
@@syndrax8554 Well, that is Legends, and even then, it was a retcon (by Denning) When they started writing those books, they barely knew who Abeloth was, in terms of origins. Still, it mostly worked.
I'm going to be honest, I find this era to be more intersting than the Empire era, at least conceptually. We get to see all the cogs of the galaxy turning instead of just seeing the Empire being evil and oppresive. This era feels much more like a galaxy than the original trilogy's time.
@@matiasluukkanen7718 Empire vs. Rebels isn't more boring, just less complicated. Now, if only someone would make a series or movies set in the Kotor Era, when there were more than two Sith Lords and some of the freaky powers they have threatened to wreck the galaxy.
One of my favorite things in this show was how the last arc, Siege of Mandalore, is set up so you can time it to the events of Revenge of the Sith. Right down to the actual start of the siege using the music from the battle of coruscant so you can sync the two up immediately
Also enjoyed that brief reference to Shaak-Ti protecting Palpatine during the battle of Coruscant. Felt a subtle Tartakovsky cartoon homage since everything with Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka nullified a major arc of that show.
The only downside is that I wanted to see Grievous capturing Palps scene again. Though Tarkovsky's version is in itself a masterpiece, but I'd still want to see a different take.
@@DarthBiomech tnf geogres original idea was that the two series were both canon- well, the events of the original not their direct portrayl due to stylization But anyway so he said they werent going to cover the same ground since it was still supposed to be canon
This series REALLY pushes the boundaries of what you could put in an animated series. There was nothing else like it on Cartoon Network and I doubt there ever will be again. It was NOT appropriate for kids at all, but I started watching it when I was 7. I think it influenced Cartoon Network to be more bold because there was a whole bunch of other shows on at the time that were more serious, violent, and serialized than usual. Adventure Time, Regular Show, Young Justice, Mystery Incorporated, Thundercats, Green Lantern, Symbiotic Titan, they all pushed the boundaries of what was appropriate on a "Kids Network" and I remember them all fondly. I should point out that after those shows ended, Cartoon Network went back to being strictly for kids. Probably because a lot of those shows weren't as successful as they hoped. I'm still a fan of them all and look back on them fondly. I just wish some of them were around a little longer. At least Clone Wars got a satisfying ending.
I'd actually recommend checking out The Amazing World of Gumball. The animation is trippy as Hell and takes some getting use to, but, as hard as it is to believe, it's actually a really smart show. Craig of the Creek is good too; it's like Codename:KND, but more down to Earth and realistic.
Samurai Jack. But that's Genndy's handiwork. Hell, Genndy even influenced the Clone Wars by getting the first crack at it AND there are a few subtle references to his version.
Unsure why people say to skip the first 1-2 seasons. Without those, you miss out on character development, animation improvements, and some pretty cool storylines (Ryloth, introduction of Cad Bane, Boba Fett's rise, ZIllo Beast).
Not to mention the massive five-part Geonosis arc that features everything good about the show. Sometimes I get the feeling that people forget that some of the good arcs were in fact in seasons 1 and 2.
Highlights of Clone Wars: The Siege of Mandalore Arc (aka OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG) The Mortis Arc (Aka HOLY HELL Anakin GOT DANG) The Umbara Arc (aka the one where Dee Bradley Baker talks to himself for 30 min in each ep give him an Emmy) The Wrong Jedi Arc (aka the one where hating the Jedi Council was SUPER easy, barely an inconvenience.) The Obi-Wan Rako Hardeen Arc (aka I still really hate you Jedi Council and you really just don't see what you're doing to Anakin do you?) The Maul Returns Arc (aka didn't know we needed this but THANK YOU) The Citadel Arc (aka Anakin and Tarkin get chummy, and Ahsoka is dope, and OH NO ECHO-) The Conspiracy Arc (aka FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVES *sobs*)
This show also takes full advantage of the fact that it's animated too. The action scenes are some of the best you'll ever see because they're able to go beyond human limitations
Doug has to give praise to Sam Witwer, Darth Maul's voice actor. He is just so awesome in the role and he really gave Maul his personality. If Ray Park gave Maul his style, Witwer gave him his menace.
Never really liked the clone wars maul, Sam came across whiney like haven't christianson did with anikin to me. The more beaten down version in rebels seemed to have a better voice.
The clones were so well developed as characters that I was on the edge of my seat watching them battle. Whenever one died like 99, Heavy, Waxer, and Fives, it felt like a punch to the gut.
They actually do manage to redeem Jar Jar in this series by having him come up with clever ideas that help his friends and he even punches out a bad guy. They also show the flaws of the Jedi through characters like Luminara, Barris and especially Mace Windu who is shown to be a clear representation of the worst of the Jedi.
@@chasehedges6775 Maybe because TLJ was a bad movie. They think they're being clever but haven't even hit George Lucas's level. TLJ subverted expectations but Clone Wars exceeded them. Seriously, if you really think it's a contradiction by the fans then maybe it's on you for not understanding; the basic understanding of what Clone Wars did to be loved and what TLJ did to be hated. If you love TLJ, cool. But without the basic understanding it's just blind love.
Difference is TLJ TOLD us they were flawed, but maintained the status quo by the end with Rey becoming a generic Jedi, in clone wars ahsoka was a victim of the jedis flaws and was cast out, her famous line is “I’m no Jedi”. TLJ is not nearly as bold and risk taking as people give it credit for
@@chasehedges6775 that is not why people bash TLJ. They bash it because of: -Dumb side plot with finn and rose -No development for the characters -Luke abandoning Leia and the resistance, giving up on kylo just because he had a bad dream -rey being the most boring protagonist who doesn't earn anything -stupid purple hair lady -stupid hyperspace scene that ruins the tension whenever there's a space battle -underdeveloped characters that make decisions that make no sense just to do a twist -killing luke -no worldbuilding -and a bunch of others
Actually like this cartoon movie and series quite a bit. And I like the introduction of Ahsoka. And we get to really see that Anakin he does have issues of letting go.
I am still shocked to see Ahsoka, a character I was pretty was going to die before the ending, still shows up in The Mandalorian series. I mean, in the long game, Clone Wars fixed the major problems from the prequels and introduced new characters that became general favorite among the fanbase! I think I gonna watched it again!
It's especially fun to watch with someone who hasn't seen the series before. Even if it's indirectly from online vlogs/reaction series They're some of the most fun star wars conversations that I listen to.

This, along with TMNT 2012 are one of the best looking CG Tv cartoons. Not sure if there’s any other CGI series made for TV that looks as good as those.
The CG of Riders of Berk got pretty good in it's Netflix seasons. Unfortunately the writing remainded just passable. Trollhunter also on Netflix also looked pretty good.
Arcane is probably the most recent example of this style of 3D animation that resembles handpainted 3D models. And it even incorporates a lot of cool 2D effect similar to Into The Spider-verse. Not to mention the story is very compelling.
For some reason I always heard it as “juvenile force”. Probably my young ears. Though honestly, I was more interested in The Secret Saturdays than the Clone Wars when that lineup was going on.
Its honestly incredible that i remember watching so many of these episodes as a kid on cartoon network, episodes like the battle of umbara, Ashoka being framed for a crime she didnt commit, fives finding out about the chips all these unbelievably hard hitting emotional episodes and i just look back as an adult now like "This is what i was watching as a kid on Cartoon Network???" this show is truly a special one and one that i'll always remember fondly
Yeah, the top 11 arcs makes sense; top 11 episodes does not. I'm looking at you WatchMojo where the majority of the video was episodes from the same two arcs I'd say Mandalore, Umbara, and the Wronged Jedi like Ben Wasserman said of course, you'd be insane not to, but I'd throw in Mortis, Fives, Geonosis, and Nightsisters/Maul And for the worst arcs, because you know he'd need to make one for that, the droid arcs from seasons 1 and 5, the Blue Shadow Virus, and the Nute Gunray arc in season 1. I think on their own, there's nothing really wrong with these, I actually enjoy a fair bit from them (with the exception of that Frog Colonel), they're just not that strong compared to everything else. Outside of these, the only ones I can think of that are "bad" are standalone episodes rather than arcs.
However, the show wasn't profitable. In fact, with every episode made they were losing more and more money, because it was so expensive to make. Yet it was still made, purely out of passion.
There is also an important destinction for the show: The clone wars made a loss every season, but George Lucas/the whole Lucasfilms complex made a massive profit of every season. For one thing Lucas has shown in various interviews that he learned the value of long term profits a good while ago, and he was in for the long run. The show made a loss as it initialy aired, but it has been constantly bringing in money ever since. Heck, it is still some of the most wacthed content on disney plus currently, so a significant chunck of it's monthly revenue/profit is profit clone wars makes. For another Star wars is one of the oldest entertainment properties that really embraced the 'franchise' setup. Over the years clone wars sold truckloads of merchandise, books, derivative video games and so on, which probably brought in more profit by now than the show cost to produce on it's own without even considering the broadcasting/streaming income. On top of that it kept star wars alive and fresh for people for a good while, which made it effectively also marketing for the movies, merchandising, books and other stuff in the star wars universe, bringing in a lot of profits from that as well. I coudln't find concrete numbers, but I'd bet a full analysis (if enought of the relevant data was collected through the years to analyse properly) would show that Clone Wars has made Lucasfilms the cost back probably at least 5-10 times as a VERY conservative estimate.
@Dragorath Tatsu It's expensive as hell for children's television animation, and cheap as hell if you compare it to the blockbuster action franchises it's somehow competing with, and surpassing.
He probably felt that way because of the art style and character designs. But that’s simply how things had to look back then to render on time for a television deadline. The render time would be through the roof if say they added actual hair and more complex cloth sims (which exists in later seasons).
@@ZaZi-Zeta01 You gotta give it to Lucas. He put his all into projects. I gotta give the man respect for funding Clone Wars. The animation, lighting and everything gets better as the show goes on.
I watched this for the first time with my 9 and 7 year old sons, and 6 year old daughter. We all loved it. It actually made me enjoy the prequels more the next time I watched them, because I could fill in so much.
This show has a special place in my heart; it's what got me into Star Wars. I was in fourth grade and channel-surfing when I came across the last few minutes of the second episode of the first season. Since then, I have been hooked on Star Wars, to the point I wanted to be a Jedi when I grew up.
One of my all time favorite series, my favorite characters are Ahsoka, Maul, Rex, Hondo, the Bad Batch, and ect. The banter between Anakin and Obi Wan is hilarious.
Man, I remember watching all of Doug's Clone Wars vlogs. I mean, I course I do it hasn't even been a year. But getting to see Doug slowly become a Clone Wars fan. And after seeing his last vlog, I couldn't wait for Disneycember just to get his overall thoughts on the show after sitting on it.
Clone wars was my lockdown show, then I started watching it with my dad, and then my sister joined in and then we watched rebels and the mandalorian and then bad batch. This show means a lot to me, and I can't stress enough how fucking good it is
“They get away with a lot!” Me remembering Darth Maul Force throwing his lightsaber and beheading an ENTIRE ROOM of criminal leaders when they didn’t join him. -“…yup.”
@@mattj2081 Oh yeah, regardless, I saw at least 6 or so guys slump to the floor dead with wisps of smoke coming from their now headless necks were on “KIDS” show. They got away with a LOT.
And that was pretty late. Remember the first geonosis arc in the show i season 1 or 2 if I remeber correctly? They had Clone troopers use flamethrowers to literally burned geonisians alive on screen, in a kids show! And they literally talked about sending the teenage padawans on basically a suicide mission, while ordering their clone troops to walk head first into death as a diversion, and showed that too. Also, all of those were technically war crimes by real world laws, on top of the other 30 or so times the show depicted the HEROES of the show commiting war crimes of various ilks, plus assasinations, kidnapping, child endangerment, piracy and various other actions. Don't get me wrong, clone wars is an amazing show, and IMO perfectly fine for early teens to watch. I am just dumbfounded how they got that into US kids television.
It really is a great complimentary to the prequels and a must watch for Star Wars fans. The point of the series did what they set out to do, build on the obi and Anakin relationship , gets you to know about the other Jedi masters, and makes you care about the clones. A great series !
@@jarrodedson5441 So did other people you're not special I watched it day one and hated it back then. and I even hated ahsoka back then too. But I was a psychotic lil star wars fanboy back then. nowadays... eh
When I was a kid, I used to do kids' theatre. And our rehearsals would always take place on Friday nights, while The Clone Wars was originally airing its episodes (until they switched it to Saturday mornings, godammit CN), so being a huge Star Wars fan, I was always so disappointed that I would miss the episodes when they actually aired. But that wasn't a problem, because I would DVR the episodes instead. I would wait and watch the clock tick by in rehearsals, and as soon as we were out, I'd rush home with my mom, sit down in front of the TV with my dinner, and immediately watch the the new episodes. It was almost like a sort of routine or ritual for me, almost like it was *my* Disney Afternoon. Those nights are some of the best memories of my life. Thank you, Clone Wars
I remember falling in love with the show after watching it's first episode as a special TV event when I was 10 years old. So many episodes of Star Wars adventure, so many fights, funny moments and heroes. Then as I got older the stories got more interesting and complex. This show grew with me, and I basically went from Avatar the Last Airbender to Star Wars the Clone Wars. And man, these shows were a ride to grow up on.
Fun fact for anyone who doesn’t know, the fight between Ahsoka and Maul during the siege of Mandalore was mo-capped. Since it was gonna be the last lightsaber fight of the series, they had to go all out. They got a very talented stunt actress to play Ahsoka, and they brought Ray Park back to be Maul one last time
The Clone Wars is my favorite 3D animated show of all time. I could talk about it all day, but sufficed to say that it was one of the shows that came out at the perfect time for me (at age 12-13), challenged a lot of my preconceptions on various subjects, and helped form me into the person I am today. The finale was gut wrenching to watch in all the best ways and I'm forever grateful for this series.
I honestly much preferred this over the live action movies, but still wanted a remake of the Revenge of the Sith in this same style, but still I like on how they made the choice on how the other points happened during the famous Order...
Closest we’ve gotten was a brief scene from the Lego Holiday Special. They had Rey and Vader literally fall in on the Mustafar battle and even got Anakin and Obi-Wan’s Clone Wars actors to record the lines. It’s pretty cool.
I must have watched this show through three times this year: once because I wanted to, once with a friend, and once with my dad. Just breathtaking in all honesty.
7:42 To answer that question, it was the former. When they made that episode, this was pre Disney so the over the top characterization that felt 80s cartoon like was intentional before Season 7. Also, this wasn't just written and story boarded, but also went through some early rough animation where it's little movement and no mouth movement. There are videos of the rough cut online by the creators since they thought they'd never get a chance to use it, but basically what we see in the episodes with the Bad batch is basically the equivalent of what 343 did with Halo 1 with the anniversary and layered the original model and code with the new graphic and I don't mean that in a bad way as we see what an amazing arc it was. Also in the same video with the rough animation, there was gonna be a dedicated Anakin/Obi wan arc where they're stranded on a planet and basically the dialogue is a mixture of talks about Ashoka and foreshadowing to what will happen in Revenge of the Sith. personally, I'd rather have that episode than the Episodes with Ashoka and the Pikes, but it's still fascinating.
9:32 There's literally a scene where Darth Maul force-pulls a clone trooper's arm to be on the other side of a door as it's closing and the next shot is of the clone's arm hitting the floor. This show had balls.
I absolutely loved this show. I was watching it from season 1, it's so fantastic. It honestly kind of redeems the prequels in a way. It's amazing how much has branched off from this show, including Ahsoka becoming an important character.
I'll go on record and say "Clone Wars" is the single best piece of Star Wars media I've ever seen; It's not perfect, but it gets more impressive with each season and really makes the pre-order 66 universe feel so lived in and believable. It's definitely something I'd recommend to everyone, even those who aren't that versed in Star Wars.
Doug’s reviews convinced me to watch the show, one of the coolest things I’ve seen. Great fun hearing him fanboy over the show for 10 minutes, Clone Wars earns it 👍
The older Clone Wars shorts that ran on Cartoon Network weren't as defined and elaborate as the multi-season TV show, but those shorts gave us the BEST introduction and version of General Grievous that anyone could hope for!
@@annieandelsieofarendelle3294 *blocks umbara, strikes back with Jabiim* you just lost! Umbara made no sense. Especially because Pong Krell turned against the republic and his clones for the STUPIDEST reason! because he wants to join Dooku...somehow? why?
@@annieandelsieofarendelle3294 Umbara is just yet another "seps are here, lets land there and blast them all" story, when Jabiim for the first time showed the dark side of the republic, with them requiring ressources just as much as the seps. while TCW is always just "evil" seps against "ultra-lightside-republic".
I'm glad you liked the series. Its such an amazing series. So well done. So many awesome characters. I didn't think I'd end up liking Ahsoka but she became one of my favorite characters. I have many, many favorite characters in the series.
Me and my boyfriend binged the last season together, and the final episode *destroyed* us. we were so invested, yelling in surprise, whispering "nononono" or "oh s**t" a lot. we cried and felt the impact of it for at least 2 days it was that intense. i LOVE this show and these characters!
This show came out at the perfect time for me. I was about 11 or so, and the more lighthearted first two seasons were really good for my age. As the show matured, so did I. So I felt like it grew along with me. It really defined Star Wars for me and makes the prequel era my favorite, even though the movies are...what they are. In fact, I never thought the prequels were that terrible because I had clone wars to contextualize some things for me. I have so many thoughts and feelings for this show. It has a special place in my life. I think the Bad Batch series and Rebels are worth checking out as well. But they don't really add as much to the Star Wars universe as Clone Wars did. Clone Wars reframes and recontextualizes so much that watching at least some of it is crucial for hardcore fans. Not so much for the story as it is for getting to know the characters and their development, as well as the overall state of the galaxy by the time RotS comes around. But you could skip Bad Batch and Rebels without missing too much. So far it seems all you need to know about Rebels is that Thrawn is an irritatingly competent villain that got yeeted through space and the Mandalorian hinted he'd return. And something related to Mortis that I think is an overall questionable decision.
I'll never forget when I was 14 years old and I watched the end of Season 5 when it premiered . I remember getting pretty emotional at the ending especially since that was the last season for awhile. This show was definitely the highlight of my Saturday mornings.
I finally decided to check it out this year after many years of putting it off. I'll admit the Jar Jar episodes nearly put me off after the first season, but I kept pushing cause I heard it got good, and now I'm on the final season. What a ride this show is.
Some of my favourite scenes ever in Star Wars and animation in general are in this show Grievous' massacre on the nightsisters, Ashoka before the tombstones of the clones, Yoda talking to the clones; in almost every type of scene, with characters I love and setting events that become important for other properties Dave Filioni and his team can really call this their magnum opus
This show really does make you care about the clones. I was rooting for the rookies to pass their test and join the ranks of the clones. The same episode shows the deep sense of brotherhood the clones feel for each other.
This IS the show that retconned the prequel storyline into something good. And trust me, it took a VERY long time for people to embrace The Clone Wars. Just look at early Ahsoka reception.
(Spoilers) Waxer a guy who was in one episode before his death I cried at his death Hardcase a guy who you barely knew before the umbara I felt really bad at his death 10/10 this is Star Wars
The Bad Batch, Hunter leads, Tech does machines. Crosshair is cool but crude, Wrecker is a party dude! Oh, and I guess Echo is Baxter Stockman if Baxter were to be good guy and then got captured and turned into a fly before being rescued, lol XD
I actually thought that Echo was more like Jennika. They both started out as "Regs" (regular clone/regular human), but went through something traumatic that changed them forever, and became a part of a new family. Omega is definitely like Lita.
One of the characters who had the most character growth, in my opinion, was Ashoka. She went from being one of the most annoying characters to a fan favorite as the series went on. Sam Witwer did a fantastic job playing Maul. He's also the same guy who plays Starkiller in the Force Unleashed games for those who didn't know.
That was an awesome way to start of Disneycember this year. I’m glad to hear that you too have become a big fan of this series. I look forward to seeing the rest of Disneycember from you Doug
The Clone Wars is a show that truly shows what Lucas can do and what he's trying to do. The prequels get a lot of hate that's completely unjustified and just used to shit on a series of movies that if you could take you're own head out of your ass you would understand just how amazing they, and the entire 6 film saga is
the PT isn't perfect. hell, the OT isn't perfect. but that's where the true fans come in. a true fan can love something, even knowing it ain't perfect. we know the PT is flawed but we can see what lucas was doing. i doubt people realize that lucas probably took real life inspiration for the fall of the republic from the real fall of the roman republic and how one man used a crisis to give himself absolute power and turn a republic into a empire with little resistence. as a history buff, i swear lucas was inspired by that.
When people complain about the character designs of this show, everyone seems to forget, or more likely not realize, that the designs are based on the 2D animated Clone Wars show by Genndy Tartakovsky. That's why they have that angular look to them. I guess you could argue that it doesn't translate very well to 3D, and while I personally preferred the 2D designs, the 3D designs never bothered me.
Fantastic to see you cover this, Doug! You have inspired me to watch it fully through myself! I've watched season 1 and half of 2 and then stopped. Not due to lack of interest but because life got in the way. Now I really feel like I will watch this properly! I'd recommend you to watch Star Wars Rebels next. Perhaps I like it more than it deserves because I see the main cast as a tabletop roleplaying party and can relate to them in that manner, but regardless, hearing your take on Rebels would be interesting! Edit: I'll also take the time like many others here to praise Dee Bradley Baker, who voices all clones. He does a spectacular job and deserves all praise.
In case you didn't know already: Disney took over Star Wars in 2014 (I think) and cancelled this show after its 5th season. The show's creators were able to release the remaining episodes, which they managed to animate completely, on Netflix, so these episodes became CW season 6. That's also the reason why season 6 only has 13 episodes and not 20 or more, because they were cancelled mid-production. Dave and his team finished 12 out of the (about) 52 unfinished Clone Wars episodes in season 7, but there still exist (around) 40 unfinished episodes or (in other words) 10 unfinished arcs to this day. The scripts of all of the 52 episodes were already finished, as far as I know. You can look up these amazing stories which we still could have gotten, which would have played out before the finale of season 7. I really hope that they maybe are going to release and finish more or all of the 10 arcs/ 40 unfinished CW episodes in the future. We would have seen on screen what happened with Maul and Sidious after season 5 or with Ventress, for example, not just in comic or book form (like the Maul "Son of Dathomir" or Ventress "Dark Disciple" book). We would have also seen more of the affects that Ahsoka leaving had on Anakin and even a very short encounter between Sidious and Ahsoka. Maybe one day Disney will eventually decide to finish and release them.
I loved the Clone Wars as a kid. Sure I mostly focused on episodes of battles where the good guys win, but it was a fantastic show and anyone who says otherwise can have a lightsaber right where the sun don't shine.
That's the brilliance of Palpatine's plan though. He manipulates the jedi into conquering the galaxy for him under the guise of defending the republic from tyrannical separatist leaders. We saw the good guys win a lot, but it was all part of his plan to usher in the empire. So in the end they didn't win at all.
@@coachlombardi9657 oh I'm sure. That's what's great about it: you think they're the good guys and then you find out how bad the whole situation actually was
The first two seasons were honestly not that bad, basically like he said they were trying to get their foot in, also the ventress thing some fans from legends don’t enjoy as ventress did have a backstory and had her be her own character rather than what was done in tcw where she was sort of a stepping stone for mauls return. That said I still enjoy the show and of course Ahsoka is one of the best characters in the series, she was legit written well.
I can definitely agree with you saying that they turned Darth Maul into this Shakespearean villain and Sam Witwer's performance as Maul Really sells that statement its So Good

Anakin was always a great character. Heck, I'd argue he was better in the prequels, if only because of George Lucas's directing.

@@cy9884 What? Lucas is a terrible director. He is great at ideas but he is not a good writer or director.
@@jakubgodyn7413 Gorge is not a terrible director have you even seen any previous movies like 1138 and American Graffiti?

9:00 "This might be the 1st bit of media I've seen that actually made me say: I know what George Lucas was going for with the prequels."
That made me so happy to hear you say that, Doug.
We need sequel era show now to fix sequels

I was eight when this stuff came out and this taught me a lot of different political ideas like what does it mean to be a pacifist
@Super Chaloongis How did he fall for it though?
The Siege of Mandalore is incredible, indisputably a masterclass of storytelling.
The Umbara arc comes close 2nd imo

This show made the prequels one of the most interesting time periods
I'm going to be honest, I find this era to be more intersting than the Empire era, at least conceptually. We get to see all the cogs of the galaxy turning instead of just seeing the Empire being evil and oppresive. This era feels much more like a galaxy than the original trilogy's time.
Prequels already were the most interesting time periods in Star Wars.

@@DarthBiomech tnf geogres original idea was that the two series were both canon- well, the events of the original not their direct portrayl due to stylization

@@catdogmousecheese I loved Gumball. Can't wait for the movie. Craig of the Creek looks good. I'll try to check it out.
Samurai Jack. But that's Genndy's handiwork. Hell, Genndy even influenced the Clone Wars by getting the first crack at it AND there are a few subtle references to his version.
I mean cartoon network used to show pretty much uncensored animes like DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho and Gundam
Cartoon network used to show adult rated animations. When I was younger after 10 there was adult anime hours.

Highlights of Clone Wars:
The Siege of Mandalore Arc (aka OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG)
The Mortis Arc (Aka HOLY HELL Anakin GOT DANG)
The Umbara Arc (aka the one where Dee Bradley Baker talks to himself for 30 min in each ep give him an Emmy)
The Wrong Jedi Arc (aka the one where hating the Jedi Council was SUPER easy, barely an inconvenience.)
The Obi-Wan Rako Hardeen Arc (aka I still really hate you Jedi Council and you really just don't see what you're doing to Anakin do you?)
The Maul Returns Arc (aka didn't know we needed this but THANK YOU)
The Citadel Arc (aka Anakin and Tarkin get chummy, and Ahsoka is dope, and OH NO ECHO-)
The Conspiracy Arc (aka FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVES *sobs*)
Seige of Mandalore/Order 66 arc and Yoda arc were also excellent. Arguably the 2 best arcs
The Yoda Arc about discovering his own power and immortality really works well with later movies where we see Yoda after death like the Last Jedi.
This show also takes full advantage of the fact that it's animated too. The action scenes are some of the best you'll ever see because they're able to go beyond human limitations
Especially the clone wars (2003) series. The Jedi there are basically super heroes
Show the flaws of the Jedi
And yet people bash TLJ for doing that as well. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Difference is TLJ TOLD us they were flawed, but maintained the status quo by the end with Rey becoming a generic Jedi, in clone wars ahsoka was a victim of the jedis flaws and was cast out, her famous line is “I’m no Jedi”.

I’d put Order 66 Mandalore, Umbara and Wronged Jedi at the top spots.
I second this
Yeah, the top 11 arcs makes sense; top 11 episodes does not. I'm looking at you WatchMojo where the majority of the video was episodes from the same two arcs
I'd say Mandalore, Umbara, and the Wronged Jedi like Ben Wasserman said of course, you'd be insane not to, but I'd throw in Mortis, Fives, Geonosis, and Nightsisters/Maul
And for the worst arcs, because you know he'd need to make one for that, the droid arcs from seasons 1 and 5, the Blue Shadow Virus, and the Nute Gunray arc in season 1. I think on their own, there's nothing really wrong with these, I actually enjoy a fair bit from them (with the exception of that Frog Colonel), they're just not that strong compared to everything else. Outside of these, the only ones I can think of that are "bad" are standalone episodes rather than arcs.

"The show didn't have a ton of money." Um Lucas himself financed the show and each episode was produced at the cost of one to two million dollars
@Dragorath Tatsu
It's expensive as hell for children's television animation, and cheap as hell if you compare it to the blockbuster action franchises it's somehow competing with, and surpassing.

I’ve been waiting for this video!!! Watching critic fall in love with the clone wars has been one of the best things I’ve witnessed this year.

That angular art style they created for the show really is an acquired taste.
One of my favorite shows of all time. Absolutely amazing
I finally decided to check it out this year after many years of putting it off. I'll admit the Jar Jar episodes nearly put me off after the first season, but I kept pushing cause I heard it got good, and now I'm on the final season. What a ride this show is.
6:11 And I’m fairly certain he’s voiced by his original actor from Phantom Menace.
Some of my favourite scenes ever in Star Wars and animation in general are in this show
Grievous' massacre on the nightsisters, Ashoka before the tombstones of the clones, Yoda talking to the clones; in almost every type of scene, with characters I love and setting events that become important for other properties
Dave Filioni and his team can really call this their magnum opus
This show really does make you care about the clones. I was rooting for the rookies to pass their test and join the ranks of the clones. The same episode shows the deep sense of brotherhood the clones feel for each other.
This IS the show that retconned the prequel storyline into something good. And trust me, it took a VERY long time for people to embrace The Clone Wars. Just look at early Ahsoka reception.
I even remembered back when the show came out. That the Clones having personalities was considered a bad thing.
“Long have I waited.”
For the show to come home.
"Doug discovers something new and loves it" Disneycember is miles above "doug rants about a beloved cult classic he doesn't get" disneycember.
(Spoilers)
Waxer a guy who was in one episode before his death I cried at his death
Hardcase a guy who you barely knew before the umbara I felt really bad at his death
10/10 this is Star Wars
I remember that episode
Anyone else get goosebumps the second he mentioned Fives?
The Bad Batch, Hunter leads, Tech does machines. Crosshair is cool but crude, Wrecker is a party dude!
Oh, and I guess Echo is Baxter Stockman if Baxter were to be good guy and then got captured and turned into a fly before being rescued, lol XD
I actually thought that Echo was more like Jennika. They both started out as "Regs" (regular clone/regular human), but went through something traumatic that changed them forever, and became a part of a new family. Omega is definitely like Lita.
Good to see that you’ve finally see the light about this, Doug. I watched it from the infamous movie to the very end and it was an amazing ride.
They legit made Darth Maul the most complex character in Star Wars.
This has got to be one of the greatest animated series and Star Wars series of all time.
They even had him voice Maul in the Han Solo Story
Watching through this for the first time was an absolute treat.
Preach, Dougie! Leave Ahmed Best alone! I'm not even a fan of Star Wars and I'll defend that poor man.
What you've said can be applied to the sequels as well.
the passion in your voice during this video is bringing me to tears
I’ve said this many times: the four episode Clone Wars finale is the best Star Wars movie of the Disney era. Theater worthy.
The Clone Wars is awesooome ❤️
Late to the party but glad to finally have you with us Doug!
I just hope he watches Rebels next. There’s a growing section of people who feel rebels is even better than clone wars. My self included
Top 11 best clone wars story arcs when?
I feel like a loser fan when I say I enjoyed this show as a kid before I watched any of the movies
Why? From what I understand, many kids were introduced to Star Wars through this show.
@@bethanyjohnson8001 Not really, most people were introduced to star wars through the movies
What has become very obvious, whenever someone says “everybody”, especially in regards to Star Wars, it’s actually a small portion of the fandom.
Well if you want to see Maul's character resolved, you have to watch Star wars Rebels, which is also a really good show!
I love Star Wars Rebels! It’s one of my favorite shows.
@@JessAnderson1988 In my kid eyes, they were the good guys.
