6:28 i say the same thing to my bandmates after several hours of recording my parts... "that just gives it a little bit of NUANCE, that's quite beautiful."
My God, that opening was seriously so beautiful, mate. Absolutely beautiful sounds, I would kill for a full version. Reminds me of the first Deus Ex game's soundtrack (well worth a listen!). Cheers, from England:)
Excellent demo! Lot of possibilities when you really understand your gear. BTW, I also use a DR-05 to quickly record emerging jams. The Boutique’s VA sound good pairs very well with “real analog” from the modular
an, that was fascinating...I used to own an original 101 and now own the 01A but I had no idea that you could do all of that cool stiff on this little beast. I loved he idea of creating your own "default" patch....why did I not think of this? It's so obvious. And those LFO effects were amazing...must try this! Thanks for the info.
The “default patch” part blew my mind. Right? Learning that, it’s a relief to be able to confidently experiment while watching this video. I now love this little machine even more.
Very well made video. The kind I like. Informative and makes you look at an instrument from different angles. Thank you. I don't have this synth, but still... if gave me ideas for other synths. I find the SH-01 a bit expensive for a virtual analog synth , although I like the form factor and the sound very much. I like small synths that sound good :)
This is a really great tuturial of the SH01A, possibly even THE best on here. I do have a question, however. At 5:59 you mention that the LFO trigger has to obey the note entered on the keyboard. What I don't understand is why it doesn't behave the same way when the onboard sequencer triggers the note? Since its still a 'trigger' what is the difference between the onboard sequencer trigger and a MIDI note trigger? Thanks in advance
iOS gunshots n grenades 🔫💣(which thankfully don't hurt) to anyone who gave this a thumbs down! Why? SMH! It takes a lot of guts, time, energy and money to put videos like these out there, which are intended to help not hinder the viewer. Still attracts haters though! Genuinely amazed over here. I guess you can't please everyone. Keep up the good work and keep these excellent vids coming gstormelectro.👏👏👏.
Thank you again for this video. I can't seem to be able to connect the SH1a to my analogue synth via CV. Is there something I have to specify in the settings? The voltage or polarity? I love the Transpose feature on this synth. would be so curious to be able to use it on other semi - modular gear. Any info, much appreciate it.
It only accepts CV/gate out connections. So the internal sequencer can control other equipment. CV is pitch, gate is the key on/off signal. Be aware other brands like Korg uses hz/v pitch and not v/oct.
Can someone please explain to me how to get rid of this bug. When I use this synth with a sequencer, each time I stop the sequence, SH1defaults back to the default setting patch (Which is Bank 1 : 1). I've only started to explore this thing. Any help much, much appreciate!!! Thank you!
If I dont own a k25m keyboard so i need to use the midi in for my midi keyboard to trigger the sounds how can I send the clock and use a midi keyboard at the same time? I dont really want to use the out because that would make the sh01a the master and I need my drum machine as my master.
Nope, it's an unfortunate oversight in the design. A soft update could add this quite easily, but as of today I just checked and Roland hasn't added this feature yet. The workaround would be setting the SH-01A MIDI Clock Source to LFO, and logic the slave. In logic you'll have to tinker w/ the ppqn to get the LFO scaling you want, for example, for each quarter note in logic you may want four 1/16th notes on the SH-01A. Or slow LFO like 4 bars in logic and one cycle on the SH-01A. Let us know how it works out.
I am with you on this suggestion, FWIW I do film in 720p but this vid has opening and ending scenes w/ grainy digital zoom. My vids are important to me and believe I will look at some optical zoom cams.
Hello everyone, I have a very huge problem with my roland sh01a. I want to transpose the sequence, but I really hate to push at the same time the button transpose and the key. So, does anyone of here knows how can I transpose my sequence if I don't want to press the buton transpose? Obiously everything using the internal sequencer of the roland sh01a
thank you so much for these videos. Was wondering how to select the last note on the sequencer. seems like for example if i wanted a sequence of 16 steps, if i have any data beyond that like a note on 17 for instance, it will play beyond 16. any help anyone?
Doesn't have any note editing. When programming notes, it WILL display the NEXT step number. Say you entered 16 notes already, it will say 17 in the display. That is because it starts at 1 when you didn't enter the first note yet.
Can you do a video on the different funtions of the ribbon ? Is there anyway to make it sound like a lp filter or some kind of filter sweep while using a sequence or arpeggio? I know you can set it to pitch And I found you can also hold up or down on the arp settings and touch the ribbon to set octave I don’t know a hole lot about adsr or how the filter works tho
Steve Hoffmann I was having the same problem the difference is making sure your filter gas sustain and release turned up a little So if you make sure to set it to poly mode by going to menu assign then selecting poly And then make sure the switch at the top right directly under Vca is clicked up in the envelope position (this turns on the filter ) The. Raises the last to sliders sustain and release slightly then it will work When you put portamento to zero and flick the switch on and off
In progress, working on a track as we speak. Clear Sky will be on it, this sound is very much where my head's at these days soundcloud.com/gstormelectro
If I wanted to play another synth they doesn’t have cv only midi using the internal speakers would it be possible to go from the midi out of the sh to the midi in of my synth then the audio out of my synth to the mix in of the sh Or will it just play internal sounds ? I have an Arcano 2 synth which is only midi controllable
I have recently started using a Roland SH-O1A synth and everytime I try to record MIDI is automatically plays a sequence. I have restored to factory settings. Anyone know why it does this?
Are you recording midi using a DAW/computer? AFAIK the SH-01A currently does not have any settings to ignore midi start/stop. In your DAW options be sure to disable clock start/stop messages on that midi port.
Nice! Another tip: in poly mode, the arp works on incoming midi notes while the internal sequencer plays a mono pattern. Great for complex patterns
Thanks, I'll have to try that w/ a beatstep pro.
The opening and closing music in this video is better than anything I could find on your Soundcloud...
just recently got an O1A and it's a fascinating piece of equipment with tons of features and no doubts hidden things!
great video buddy 👍🏼
Glad you liked that :D
This is easily the best sh01a video on TH-cam certainly better than any Roland made
Very cool, very creative w the LFO, and a chill jam at the end.
Gem of a tutorial. Thank you!
6:28 i say the same thing to my bandmates after several hours of recording my parts... "that just gives it a little bit of NUANCE, that's quite beautiful."
Love the jam at the end, sounds awesome! Thanks for the tutorial:)
That Big Sky sounds AMAZING!
Still my #1 fav reverb pedal for synths.
My God, that opening was seriously so beautiful, mate.

i watch way too many of these synth videos but your content is really great!
thanks for checking it out!
Superb need to watch again with pen and paper
These are the real tricks, thanks a lot, good man!
thanks a lot! great video. outro is beautiful!
This video is SUPER helpful. Thumbs ALL the way up!
Superb vid. In the beginning I thought that you're about to play Playstation 1's main welcoming theme ;)
Nice one G. More to digest here. Thanks a lot

superb! - thanks
- the piece at the end reminded me of *Plaid*, only much better -
That opening with verb 👌
thanks for the great video ... what do you use for the twelfth minute effects ?!
I'm changing the LFO rate on the SH-01A which is hitting the Clouds reverb a little harder.

Thank you so much for this amazing video!!!!!!
amazing
What module is that you got to the left at 10:00 in this video?
Great tips! Thanks!
Great tipps thanks a lot!
Woahh very beautiful intro Melodic you realize this track?
Dude... seriously.
Thank you.
Thank you my friend
just wow!

Hey bro, how come I don't hear any difference between GATE keypress mode and GATE+TRIGGER mode ? Is it because i'm in poly mode?
If I dont own a k25m keyboard so i need to use the midi in for my midi keyboard to trigger the sounds how can I send the clock and use a midi keyboard at the same time? I dont really want to use the out because that would make the sh01a the master and I need my drum machine as my master.
Sounds great! :)
Sir, do you have a page where I can hear your musical stuff? Soundcloud, maybe?
oh yeah soundcloud.com/gstormelectro
Great, thanks. one question: can you sync the LFO rate to an external clock (eg from logic)

Great, but we need at least 720p, please :-) Hey, it's 2017
I am with you on this suggestion, FWIW I do film in 720p but this vid has opening and ending scenes w/ grainy digital zoom. My vids are important to me and believe I will look at some optical zoom cams.

gstormelectro awesome !!!
gstormelectro trying to be patient but I’m very excited hope the videos coming soon :)
Can you recommend a software editor for this?
I saw this a few weeks back th-cam.com/video/cq7Ij4mZtQ4/w-d-xo.html Haven't tried it.
sent it through a Bigsky and a Timeline but otherwise the sound was
clean :D
M. Le biberon time factor
Neato!
😊
How do you use the sh to control another synth with Moog the manual Just shows in and out no instructions is it just plug and play
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CV/gate
hello Switching Poly/Mono On-The-Fly doesn't work by me, can you help me thanks!

@@gstormelectro no joke, you’re like my new hero. I just stumbled upon your videos last night. You rock dude! 👍🏽
Who the hell gave this a thumbs down ?
Some people have nothing to do...
Haters gonna hate. Shake it off.
There are some real a-holes out there as you know . . .
This is one of the best demos of the SH-01A’s flexibility and possibilities!
Anyone who didn’t like the cheesy trance intro...(or the narration that sounds like it’s being read) #REALTALK
If I wanted to play another synth they doesn’t have cv only midi using the internal speakers would it be possible to go from the midi out of the sh to the midi in of my synth then the audio out of my synth to the mix in of the sh
Or will it just play internal sounds ?
I have an Arcano 2 synth which is only midi controllable
Right, the SH-01A can mix another sound source with its own internal synth via the mix input.
gstormelectro awesome thanks Mine should show up today can’t wait !!
fuck yeah!
