    Thank you for the video. I had three diesels from the seventies, andI loved them all. Your video brought back great memories. People complain that the cars are slow. I found with mine, that I was always able to keep up with traffic so it never seemed slow. On long drives, the cars were very stable, giving a solid ride that let me stay in control even in snow, and I never felt fatigue even after a twelve hour day of driving.

      Awesome I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! The turbo diesels are not slow at all but those non turbos could use a little help :)

    since this one's a standard transmission you can adjust the valves by putting the car in gear and pushing on it.

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sorry but valves cannot be adjusted by pushing on the car. Valve adjustment is very specific tolerance between the rocker arm and the cam Lobe. Does tolerance can only be achieved with feeler gauges and adjustment using the proper wrenches.

    John, I had to laugh watching you hold the camera with one hand and drive and shift with the other. I agree that a manual 240D is the only way to go. Lot of fun to drive!

    You should have checked the cold start valve behind the steering wheel that's the idle control valve knob

    • @woodsandbarclay

      There is no "cold start valve" on a 240D om616 diesel engine.

    Did you tighten the valve cover to a specific torque or just make it 'snug'? Btw, great video! Very helpful!!

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The valve cover is just snug snug equals around 10 to 15 ft lb. You definitely don't crank anything down you just snug it up real good and let the gasket do the job there's no strain or pressure on a valve cover.

    I have a 1980 240d manual. Runs great. Will do 85mph or more. It will NOT start off in a steep driveway. I just can't imagine a taxi in the Swiss or German alps having to coast back to the bottom of a driveway and get a long run and go. Makes no sense. What the hell is wrong with my car? Is this normal? Shouldn't first gear creep off like a granny gear truck???

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes first gear should be able to start the car on any incline. You probably have a weak and/or slipping clutch.

    • @technicalitems731
      @technicalitems731 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@woodsandbarclay thanks for reply. About the clutch...it doesn't slip one but. It's more like the engine just won't pull it. I've done filters. Tank cleaning. Etc. surely there has to be an answer. Maybe valves need adjusted properly? Could it be low compression from valve compression loss? Thanks man

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@technicalitems731 a valve adjustment is not going to make your car not go up a hill. Definitely sounds like you have engine problems. Your engine could just be getting worn out
