This entire scenario is heartbreaking. Water is so powerful, the only thing a person can do is escape the raging waters!
The news person asks questions that were already answered. Very annoying. So sorry for the family who owns this home. My father’s childhood home was swept away by the Ohio River. It’s always a danger but it is so lovely to live on the banks of a river.

If the town had kept removing the debris built up along the damp, the water would not have overflowed to the side of the damp then that lady wouldn't lose her house. The debris built up along the damp acts like a beaver building a damp effect.
The Barnes family are wonderful people and the Dam Store restaurant is a great off the road place. Lot of memories there. Feel so bad for them.

Thank you for the good information and the interview of the family of that white house. So glad they were able to grab some things of value to them. Hope they will rebuild. What a story! The Dam seems to be well built, we just need to find ways to take debris out of rivers like these events to save these dams, like a grid of sorts that can lift them out and off! Maybe in our future they will think of all scenarios like these we are experiencing these days.

Just makes you wonder how any of this could have been prevented. Who knows just how many other homes and small businesses might be affected by this sudden turn of events.
Occasional river cleanups will keep the debris from clogging the dam gates and spillways and this wouldn't happen.

@@betsyr4724 It's works in progress and visual results will be a ways off in many cases. Can't magically engineer massive projects overnight and start building next day. Too little, too late in many cases with the neglect in funding for decades. A lot of these structures are older than me and I'm 70 and trying not to fall down😆
There is huge backlog of work that needs to be done, thank goodness some money is finally going to infrastructure. The country had to wait too long.

@@YaYaPaBla the dam didn't break. They've had so much rain in the last couple of weeks, the ground is saturated and the water has 0 place to go. The gates couldn't keep up so the water eroded the bank and the bank has washed away. That dam is anchored in bedrock. It isn't going anywhere.
