Arjun had so many misses this year but he was constantly among the top in most tournaments he played this year, 1st at Sharjah, 5th at Qatar (could've easily been 1st if not for a rook blunder), 4th at Grand Swiss, 2nd at Gashimov Memorial, tied 1st at Chennai Grandmasters, 15th at World Rapid and 6th at Blitz and in both these events he was among the leaders from start so only faced top players. He was close to getting the Circuit spot too, it's only a matter of time before he get his big break and win a tournament like this.
I just realized the endgame is the most important part of the game to study and learn. This is where games are won or lost, because the dwindling time clock is a huge factor.
@@tusharplug even i Cher for him, everytime i watch his games anticipating his win. He always comes close n then blunders. Disappointed. Vidit had bad phase earlier but he came out n got place in candidates. Arjun has great potential to be no.1 from India. Somewhere it's going wrong.
he missed that Aroian will promote with check also missed that queen is unstoppable >>that happens no big problem chess is loss and gain and Arjun Erigaisi is agenius player
crazy he did not give a check at the end - he even had 5sec time to think about it. also Aronian blundered moving that pawn. actually it was a draw. but then 2 blunders and the last one quite shocking - like a mate in 1
The hardest thing to do in chess is to win a won game. This is because your opponent will become desperate and make sneaky and wild threats, and become uber-aggressive and unpredictable. It's difficult to psychologically deal with this, when you just expect him to roll over and accept defeat. Especially in a time scramble!
it is only a game. He still had better result overall and more prize money than Aronian For chess players playing is work and they are very lucky if they can earn nice living with it as well. Who would mind to earn 20 000+ dollars per two days work ? Very few people in the world are able to do that.
5:59 white played h4?! and had to play Ng3-Nf1-Ne3 with advantage. At the very end, when black played . ...g2, whute had check Rg3+ and he then could capture passed pawn on g2 and make black "earn his meal" as Nakamura streamet would have said.
@kevinwellwrought2024 nice game? What? Arjun was completely winning the game. He just missed the check at the critical moment. I don't know what the definition of "Nice" is for you.
@@tejashsamYou are wrong. It's common courtesy for chess players to set up the chess board after completing the game. Aronian not doing it just seems a bit weird.
There's something I don't understand with these clocks. The increment is 2 secs/move, but it seems to add +1 most of the time. How come it appears as this?
the clock doesn't show the decimals, imagine this 2 examples: 1 - you hit the clock at 00:03.1 -> the clock will become 00:05.1 and, after 0.2 seconds, it will show 00:04 on screen; 2 - you hit the clock at 00:03.9 -> the clock will become 00:05.9 and, after 1.0 second, it will show 00:04 on screen. notice that, in both cases you gain 2 secs, it's just visual
He just completely missed that levon queens with a check😢.. Otherwise he probably would have played rg4+ to win back the queen ...But I think that also would've been a draw..A complete miss
He didn't see that his king was on d4 . If king was not there , Arjun has some great winning chance. He immediately notices that after his move . You can see his reaction which he did after his move. If he saw his king on d4 then he would have found Rg3 and he was also low on time
Rg3 would still lose. After Black plays Kh7, White still cannot stop Ra1, forcing loss of White's rook, because N on h4 protects the pawn and Ra1 covers the queening square. White can check a few more times, but provided Black doesn't allow Ng6 with check which distracts Black's Knight, Black still wins. It's super complex, not just a simple oversight that Black could queen with check.
@@AndiZ23 the engine there suggests there was a winning move if you look at the video. Seems like that winning move could be Rg3. I don't see anything else.

Don't forget the World Cup beating Pragg in the first round and only needing a draw in the 2nd. So close. His year could've been so different

Arjun smiled at the end though he was devastated, very sporty gesture
When Levon saw that his opponent was disappointed and didn't seem to want to talk after the match, he left immediately
Both Arjun and Aronian are great players.

Levon with the standard neck work out every game
At the end there instead of RxN, isn't Rg3+ holding for black?
Well, yes probably, but Arjun wanted to check the King and new Queen at the same time, forcing a trade. But he overlooked the check, that's all.

He could have put his rook behind the pawn and it would check the black king. Then he had material advantage. That was a big miss.
