- I travel to the Great Sandhills of Saskatchewan to document the ever changing landscape with my Hasselblad X1D II 50 megapixel camera, and end up working with just one lens.
We ended up with wicked crazy windy weather that put a stop to large format photography, and I photographed everything in black and white.
See more of my work here.

What a wonderful production. Thanks Todd - one camera, one lens - so retro ;-)
Thanks very much, sometimes that's just a great exercise in seeing using one lens. Thanks for watching.
Wow ! Great work Todd. Thanks. KB
🙏
Great Ansel Adams quote.
Lovely images, particularly of the dunes. One thing I'm taking away from your videos, Todd, is that Saskatchewan has some remarkable (and remarkably varied) landscapes. They make me want to visit.
Di it, it's really a wonderful place.
As always inspiring, breathtaking with a wonderful sense of place
Thank you, it is magical.
Enjoyed that.
Excellent!
Todd, this is incredible. I've just recently found your YT Channel and I love your way of storytelling, the soundtrack, the composition, all is nicely done. Soon I'll be sharing some landscape photography channels around the world in my own YT channel and blog and yours is on the list. thanks for sharing this content. Will let you know when I do. Congratulations
Thanks so much really appreciate the note!
Wonderful! So refreshing to see images of obscure landscapes.
Thank you, the landscape is amazing down there.

As always inspiring and engaging. Thanks Todd. Would be keen to learn more about your post production for digital as well. Thanks for another great video.
I am actually going to do an episode on that.
That was Ernest Thompson Seton's Stomping Grounds!
I did not know that, just looked into him, need to read more about him and his work.
@@toddkorolphoto He was the best known naturalist, author and animal artist of the late 19th and early 20th century. He founded the Woodcraft League, which Baden Powell stole to found the British Boy Scouts, etc. Wrote many books, promoted Native culture, arts and was an advocate.
@@Kitsaplorax sounds like my kind of a guy.
There are many things that draw me to this channel. Principally the wonderful photography. Secondly the places and the country you shoot and film in. But most of all the relaxed and thoughtful commentary of what you aim to convey. That and your hat. Your trademark is your hats. All in all, just perfect. Always follow the light.
Thank you for the kind words, I am trying to add a bit more info to my videos, not sure how people will like it. But thank you!
so, what for I need the x2d ? this are stunning pictures
X2D is a great new camera and I am glad Hasselblad is putting work into that system. But the X1D II is a marvellous camera, I’ll be using it for a long time. 😉
Wonderful! How are you getting the blue skies to be dark? Is that a post-production thing or camera filters?
A bit of post production, but a lot of it is exposure, I am exposing for the highlights, and let the darks go dark. I should do a video on that.
Was the random lady just out hiking in her black dress? I never have that luck. ) :
Holding her hat so it didn't blow far away.
Shooting with one camera and one lens does bring out your creativity. Allan Schaller did a video for Leica entitled the Liberation of Limitations. Limitations can lead to freedom to create. A good photographer friend calls her camera bag "Her Insecurity Bag" with a plethora of cameras and lenses to choose from. I love going out with one camera, one lens and it inspires me. So thank the blowing wind for creating such wonderful photographs.
Lovely work, Todd. 👍🦘🇦🇺
🙏✌️
I just found your channel. Your video is excellent and I really like your choice of music and pacing. Simple yet interesting and effective. I especially like the interspersing of images with narrative and music. Too many you-tubers talk a lot and show very little work, or just shill products. Your work is excellent, especially the shadow work in the small dunes. Well done!
You are very kind, thank you. I do review a few products, but only if I think they can be of actual value to a photographer.
the sandhills are such a beautiful and unique place in the province i call home, wonderful images . keep up the great work
Yes I love that place.
Pure Art! Great film! Wonderful photos!!! All for the joy of the Spirit!!!
Thank you, that's very kind.
That’s a wonderful body of work. I hope you’re pleased with it! What is the story with the portrait, superb!
Thank you.
Great video, great photos, amazing place. I've been to Grasslands, must stop here next time
You should, it's well worth it.
Beautiful captures!
✌
You must be missing your Linhof suddenly :)
Always miss it in the summer time.
Todd this will make for a beautiful book if you choose to publish the work sometime. Superb. Fantastic
Thanks you. Stay tuned for some exciting news soon. 😉
@@toddkorolphoto haha I love it. Can I be preorder number 1 …… please. ☘️
Outstanding job
Many thanks!!✌️
Beautiful images, beautiful Canada 😍😍😍
Thank you. It's a great place.
Another great episode of landscape photography in Saskatchewan, I like it and hope for much more 🤩🤩 It's a good compination of Film- and Digital-Photography.
you must got an Abo for more 👍👍👍
Many thanks. More to come soon.
Beautiful! I had planned a trip to Alberta this fall but unfortunately couldn't make it, I am planning on making the trip next year and will add the sand dunes to the itinerary. My grandparents ranched not far south of the border in western North Dakota and one of his expressions was.....the only thing to slow down the wind is a barb wire fence somewhere in Saskatchewan 😉.
Nice, you'll like it. I think I know the fence you're talking about :-))
Wonderful video. I love The Great Sandhills. It’s a magical place to visit. Your photos are, as always, to die for.
Many thanks, it is so special.
nice video and photos. I see you used the 45 f3.5 lens for the X1D II. Did you compare it with the 45p f4.0 ? For landscape photography would you recommend the 4.0 (which is very affordable) ?
Yes I have a friend that has the 45 F/4 it’s amazing. Just as sharpe, lighter and cheaper.
This is by far one of my favourite places to photograph! So neat to see it show up on your youtube channel!
That’s great, such a wonderful place!
Great video! Thank you!👍👍👍
🙏✌️
Gorgeous images, again. Thanks 🙏
Glad you like them.
In sand hills, did you have any trouble with sand and dust (even without changing the lens outside) ? I plan to go in desert with my X1D II 50C and 45f/4 and I'm a bit frightened to get some problems with the sand winds.
Funny I was just printing photos today from that trip. I did not have any problems , but I did not change lenses. I also kept the body and lens covered when I wasn't using it.
Thanks a lot Todd@@toddkorolphoto
