My mom and I had just got on a plane a few days earlier 🙃 to visit family here in northeast Wisconsin..we lived across the street from.the beach..there was not a place to come back to ..we stayed here ..aww the memories ..Italian ices ! I have great memories .. I was only about 5 then .
I lived in Ridge at the time and had a 30 foot Nonsuch catboat on a mooring in Sag Harbor. The scary thing about sitting out a hurricane is that you hear your home creaking and feel it shuddering in the winds and you just don't know how bad it's going to get. The moorings let go on a lot of the yachts in the harbor and they became projectiles, crashing into other boats and sinking them. My boat was only grazed, but the harbor was a maze of masts protruding up from the water.

I lived in Bayshore at that time. We had the season premiere of Dallas stuck in the VCR for 8 days while we waited for the power to come back on.😂
I absolutely remember this hurricane. Lived down by the water in Lindenhurst.

It was a month shy of my 8th birthday. They canceled school that day, and there was tape on the windows.
I was almost 9 at this time, first hurricane I can remember ever hitting. We lived in Babylon, no power for 2 weeks.
