O M G‼️ This is a preventive maintenance type procedure. WHY would they make this so incredibly difficult? I’d rather just buy a new washer with an accessible filter and pump drain. In fact, if I don’t sell my house soon, that’s what I’ll be doing.
Appliance parts pros did a good job showing what to do. Electrolux on the other hand should hang their heads in shame. This is such a ridiculous design fail. We have our set stacked! So now I have to pay two strong people to come to our home and take the dryer off the washer so I can clean the filter. The delivery people already scratched the hell out of the top of the washer upon delivery. Who in their right mind would design an appliance this way?
Excellent video. Horrible design. Ours are stacked too. I was going to clean the filter because the washer is musty, despite leaving the door open unless it’s washing. It’d be easier to buy a new set!
You could also just simply remove the back panel and the pump will be exposed. It's just that from the back it'll be an akwerd angle, so it's a little uncomfortable to try and reach to the pump. But it's possible.
Strange thing is I have an older Frigidaire front load washer and all you need to do is remove two screws at the bottom and a small kick plate comes off to exposes this. Unfortunately this manufacturer is purposefully making things very difficult so that people will buy a new instead of fixing. Or at least hire a service person instead of doing it themselves.
I want to thank you so much for this extremely clear set of instructions to deal with a truly terrible design. I have another washer, and LG, that takes about 15 seconds to clear the trap filter. This one involves two people (to get the dryer down) and then like at least an hour of work; hoping desperately that you don't break something or lose a screw. But your instructions are SO detailed and perfect that it makes a scary job just an annoying job. Thank you!
This was by far the most helpful how to video on repairing a Frigidaire Affinity washing machine that won't spin or drain. I followed each step by step instruction and completely restored full operation of our washer.Without this video we would would have went out and bought a new washing machine, This saved us hundreds of $$. The drain trap was full of gunk, wire,coins and the final culprit that seized operation was a bra pad insert. Also the actual repair wasn't that difficult. I can't thank you enough!!
This video is amazingly helpful! But good God this is such a massive design fail on the manufacturers part! It hurts my brain! Why would you put a filtering part that would need to be regularly serviced in such a ridiculously hard to get to place 🤦♀️.
I fix Appliances for a living and when I see a no drain complaint on one these I cringe . FYI I never take the entire hose off to replace that filter just the top clamp and work the filter up.
And why in the hell make it stackable? 🤷♀️🤦♀️ not everyone has a giant empty room to work? Once I get the dryer off the top I have no space to move,..!

But my question is how in the world fid a man’s size 14 sock get out of the washer into the filtration mechanism? Please someone help me understand how this happens so I can prevent it in the future!

I was able to fix my washer today by myself without paying for a service call and then found a $5.00 bill in the filter!! :) I was afraid of taking the front control panel and door off so I went in from the back access panel. Took me less than an hour. Works good as new!!!

Awesome tutorial video. It saved me a service call, which would have been costly. I want to add, I used a spray bottle with water and dishwashing liquid, to wet down the insides of the rubber housing. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the video.
After following this video and cleaning out the filter yesterday I would definitely recommend to NOT BUY this brand. For something so simple to have taken me so long is just pure lazy engineering.
We were able to do this by tipping the washer on its side and going through the access hole on the bottom plus taking the access panel off the back, that way you can reach through with both hands. There are also some small holes in the panels that you can see through! The worst part is getting those spring clamps back on. It would be worth buying a tool that does that. We put the spring clamp over the rubber part then clamped it together with a small vice grips, then put it in and released the vice grips.
Outstanding guide -answered many many questions and saved me many hours of trying to figure out how to change the filter not to mention what i saved by not having a service call.

True but they all suck, just in different ways. I just helped my daughter take apart her LG, it has a bunch of small recirculating hoses and they were all completely filled with gunk so they were impassable, so was the air hose.
Holy Hell. My old washer just needed to flip open an access panel at the bottom, which exposed the filter. Then twist it out. 5 minute job start to finish and no tools needed!
At 5:34 into this clip, the technician disconnected the thin tube at the top of the drain hose. At 5:56, he pulled out this hose. Freeze frame right here and look at the black, nearly rectangular plastic at the top of the frame. That is the right, bottom corner of the counterweight, which blocked me from reconnecting the top, thin tube of the drain hose as easily as he did. This was most likely due to the fact that my Frigidaire washer model was LTF2140FS1, which has a bottom access panel that could be removed separately from the main front panel. Based on other YT clips on my exact washer model, I tried to reconnect the drain hose by having removed only the bottom access panel and wasted a few hours. The counterweight of the washer in this clip may have a greater ground clearance to account for the ease of access when reconnecting the drain hose at 8:31. Luckily, there were enough videos available of others removing the main front panel that motivated me to do just that. Plus I removed the counterweight; there were five, large bolts securing it. [If you decide to remove the counterweight, beware that it is heavy. I did not have a weight scale, but I estimate it weighed at least 35 pounds.] THEN I had easy access to complete the reassembly of the drain hose. I took some pics of the whole process. Thanks.

How nice that this filter housing is dry and no gunk garbage is found inside. No dirty water running on the floor after you disconnect the rubber housing. Amazing. And of course the washer is elevated so getting to the screws at the bottom of the front panel is sooo easy. Cute bullshit, Mr. Smartass Easyrepair in short pants. Show us the same eeeeasy job with filter plugged and water inside the washer. And the washer sitting tight between dryer and sink, close to a wall.. Well, I did it twice. It is a tough and dirty job. Finally my Affinity died gracefully and I bought a Bosch washer. With a simple revision door for the drain pump filter. So much for amazingly crappy design.
I just wanted to clean the filter but think I'll wait til it stops draining. Where is the access door to filter? This was not designed for general cleaning.
Dam this is sooo tedious . I was hoping to help clean my parents Frigidaire washing machine but the dryer is sitting on top of it in a narrow closet and no way I can easily take them out and put them back myself . And she is in no condition to help me lift them out and put them back . 😒
Mine drains and spins in the first cycle but not the 2nd without doing some button tricks. So the pump works. I replaced the door lock and still doesn't work. Why would the pump work at all if it is blocked??
I took mine apart only to find that the filter wasn't clogged, so something else. There were a few coins in it at the bottom but not enough to prevent it from functioning. There was nothing big and obvious as most of you found. I also found the service manual under to top cover, and I did the error test and get E45 - Control Panel. I'm looking that up next.
you got to be kidding me...most washing machines have a small opening at the bottom of the washer ...you open it, unscrew the filter opening and clean or replace it.... this is the worst design that I have ever seen... this would cost at least $150 to get the service tech to do this. What a mess....
I left the door on and just removed top and front lower panel and was able to do it from the front Hardest part was getting that stupid boot on..I suggest swapping the stupid pressure clamps for worm clamps that are much easier to deal with I found dish soap on the boot helped it slide onto the pump
Nice detailed video. Talk about a poor design as you know the drain filter like other things need maintenance and has to be cleaned & changed occasionally? Instead of just placing an inline filter up front like other companies for easy access they make you jump through a bunch of flaming hoops (disassembling and reassembling everything) with the possibility of breaking something along the way if not careful? What is sad instead of just routing a little extra tubing to the front with an easy access panel with a filter for they make doing simple maintenance a nightmare.
This design flaw caused me to cancel my Electrolux washer order. There's no other front load washer manufacturer (aside from Whirlpool, but big surprise there) that doesn't have an access panel for this filter on the front. Shame on Electrolux.
If you put detergent on your fingers and on the spring clamp line it up from the top and on the sides then just pull down and it slides right into the groove

This went way way way easier than mine did.....taking it apart was great, putting the clamps back on the two hoses was almost unbearable! I almost threw it out the window, I was so frustrated
What would be the reason to make this repair? Would this fix my washer being smelly sometimes? I regularly clean the washer and occasionally clean out the drain hose, but still have a bad smell sometimes.
What are the symptoms that tell you you need to change that filter? The holes in that filter look huge, like you would need a whole pocket full of change to clog it. And if you did clog it, why would you need a new one? with holes that big, couldn't you simply clear out whatever was blocking it?

I'm pretty sure the sides have to come off before the bottom can be removed. Mine is EFLS617SIW0. But the bottom has a large opening. Another commenter said they leaned the coin filter using that access.
There’s a large cover plate on the back, that all is this is accessible from. It’s there or four screws. Still a good video is something in the front needs changed
Or if you have a dryer sitting on top of your washer like me. You can just unscrew a few screws on the back to take off a small panel and get at it that way. Much faster than taking apart the entire washer lol takes me maybe 15-30min max.

Jesus Christ what ridiculous amount of steps just to clean a filter! You have to disassemble most of the machine 😮 This company is trying to keep professional repairman in business as this is out of the skill level of average owner.
Thanks for the tutorial, but I could never re-assemble a piece as ugly as that rubber connector w/o first cleaning it, along w/ the plastic parts w/ the calcium build-up. I'm a bit OCD (anal?) on that kinda stuff.
what a joke just to remove a filter? I just watched an LG with a door panelfor filter that opens at the bottom of the front panel no screws just opens and the filter is there. something to think about when designing your next washer!!!
This is the biggest piece of junk I ever wasted money on and why I hate corporations. If you put clothes into this machine folded, they come out still folded! And smelly. We designed around this stackable unit and then they discontinued the size, so I cannot replace it without an expensive remodel of my whole room. I have had this whole machine apart to replace the bearing. The gunk that builds up in the back behind the tub where you can't access it to clean it is horrific. Centrifugal force spins all that stuff, a thick, sticky mixture of detergent, grime, lint, hair, to the back where it will never get washed off, and it smells like hell. You need a pressure washer to clean it off. I am old enough to remember when companies designed good products that worked well and lasted. This thing is a disgrace. I wish I still had my old Maytag top loader, it's probably still going strong.

No disassembly needed to access the rubber hose. Simply lay the washer flat on its back and access the rubber pipe from the underside. Simple

This is the long and hard way to do this job. Put the washer on it’s side and do all this through the access hole without taking anything apart
Great video. Was going to try and get out from the bottom but that far right clamp looks to be a bit hidden.
If you just flip it upside down you can clean the filter without taking everything apart and it take about 5 min.

If that filter is dirty then yes it could help to make the washer not be smelly. Do you leave the lid open after you use the washer?

How do you know if your filter needs replacement? I have a 10 year old washer..it smells when I wash clothes with it
If the filter is damaged or worn it will need to be replaced. It may need to be cleaned. You will just need to check it.

use needle nose vice grips
that's what i used, it was too hard to grip and position the ring clamp.
I did everything but now "the sensing" light is not illuminating🙃.

Or if you have a dryer sitting on top of your washer like me. You can just unscrew a few screws on the back to take off a small panel and get at it that way. Much faster than taking apart the entire washer lol takes me maybe 15-30min max.

Jesus Christ what ridiculous amount of steps just to clean a filter! You have to disassemble most of the machine 😮 This company is trying to keep professional repairman in business as this is out of the skill level of average owner.

Thanks for the tutorial, but I could never re-assemble a piece as ugly as that rubber connector w/o first cleaning it, along w/ the plastic parts w/ the calcium build-up. I'm a bit OCD (anal?) on that kinda stuff.

what a joke just to remove a filter? I just watched an LG with a door panelfor filter that opens at the bottom of the front panel no screws just opens and the filter is there. something to think about when designing your next washer!!!
This is the biggest piece of junk I ever wasted money on and why I hate corporations. If you put clothes into this machine folded, they come out still folded! And smelly. We designed around this stackable unit and then they discontinued the size, so I cannot replace it without an expensive remodel of my whole room. I have had this whole machine apart to replace the bearing. The gunk that builds up in the back behind the tub where you can't access it to clean it is horrific. Centrifugal force spins all that stuff, a thick, sticky mixture of detergent, grime, lint, hair, to the back where it will never get washed off, and it smells like hell. You need a pressure washer to clean it off. I am old enough to remember when companies designed good products that worked well and lasted. This thing is a disgrace. I wish I still had my old Maytag top loader, it's probably still going strong.
