Mexico is a big country, cartels are mostly in border cities, and in about 3 states, the rest is pretty safe. Yucatan is one of the safest places on earth.

I'm not sure about texas, but I've crossed the San Ysidro border many times (San Diego - Tijuana border). There isn't anyone checking you when you cross via car from the US to Mexico. They only check you when you come back to the US

I’ll never go to Mexico on vacation, I like being alive and well. I can’t help but wonder what kind of people it takes to commit such brutal crimes? Although studies have shown that most people have no problems with causing a fellow human being pain and suffering as long as they don’t have to take responsibility for their actions.
