I think this is great advice when working with more experienced clients. When someone is hitting mitts for the first time, don’t they need to be guided and told where to move after a punch?

I think if you've properly taught your clients how to move it won't be necessary to physically guide them. In my own experience teaching newcomers on mitts, after I taught them how to move they are able to figure out what they need to do and I've never needed to matador them.

I’ve never heard the matador term until now. I’ve found that when training fitness clients many of them don’t yet understand distance. So when they start hitting mitts, I have to use my lead hand to guide back when they smother too close. Also, when I’m teaching them to pívot. I’ve seen many pro trainers also do this with pool noodles.

@@Oscar40694 I as well haven't heard the term, I am just referring to that part of the video where he says it. Of course, every client is different, and there are some (lots?) that will misjudge distance, especially at the begining when they are learning their reach. I was a teacher before I was a personal trainer and the lessons that stick best are the ones that they have to come up with the answer themselves.
