    Guys glad you loving our reaction btw we understand Toronto slang is similar to UK slang but what we saying is the flow is different.
    You gonna have to put us on some Toronto artists so we can react to them. Also us stating our opinion on the song is not hating it's a reaction channel for a reason. If we said we loved every song that came out especially because it's a big artist like Drake that would be fake this is based on first impressions. We listen to alot of Drakes music and respect him for exploring different genres/cultures and putting us on.

    Drake just does it from a musician standpoint. He doesn't need money or shine or anything out of it. He is the biggest star in Hiphop now whether you fuck with him or not. I think he really likes different music styles and just wants to bring shine to that scene. He gave Giggs and Skepta a lot of shine on More Life when he didn't need to.

    I agree with what you guys said - you have to grow up in the culture to come off authentic on a UK drill beat. It's confusing because Toronto actually does have similar slang to the UK due to the heavy Caribbean influence in the urban slang. Jamaicans brought all of that slang to the UK and Toronto but most British people just assume people from Toronto talk like Americans. There obviously is a ton of American influence on Canadian culture, but specifically for urban culture, the Caribbean influence is definitely stronger.
    The other thing with Drake is even though he is Canadian he is also an American citizen through his dad, lives in America, has an American passport etc. So he definitely has more American influence than your average Canadian. On top of that he definitely catered to the Southern accent trend back in 2009 in order to blow up. Now that he has already peaked in his career he is now revisiting his Toronto influences and using more of that local slang. So while they may seem to be an attempt at UK drill, I think it's more of him being a local Toronto guy, using Toronto slang but on a UK drill beat with UK fashion and mannerisms with his hand movements. So he's trying to use Toronto references, naming local Toronto hoods, and incidents but with a UK flow and beat rather than trying to 100% emulate a UK drill song completely.
    I know it's confusing but that's Drake. Being a mixed guy, having dual citizenship, loving UK, American, Toronto and Caribbean culture produces a lot of interesting music.

    It’s the AD-LIBS. He completely missed the ad-libs. That’s one of the main reasons why it’s not hitting you as hard, why you’re not feeling it, and why the track sound so empty, and as you said, too chilled.
    Ad-libbing is a whole other aspect of the game and it’s a different skill set. OneFour caught onto it and did well with their ad libs. Drake completely left it out here. That’s one of the main things that’s missing.
    Probably the U.S. rapper who does ad libs the best is Cam’ron and the whole Dipset/Diplomats crew. I’d actually say Cam’ron is a legend when it comes to ad libs, especially his Purple Haze album and Killa Season. He may have started it all actually. Peace ✌️

    Rap is un equivalently American, thus the reason Drill is referred to as “UK Rap” because “Rap” for all intensive purposes means “American Rap”.. I guess what I’m trying to say is Rap is an American Style of music.. Drill apparently also started in Chicago... but isn’t grime and Drill biting rap to begin with? I get not wanting everyone to sound the same, I love grimy southern rap like 36 mafia or Rittz, or Yelawolf... and how different it sounds from say West Coast Rap like 2Pac, Dr Dre, etc.. or like where all styles are birthed from, NY rap like Nas and Jay...so I get styles and not wanting them bit, but that said if say Jay Z or Nas wanted to expiring this with a style of rap he helped birth like Drill, I don’t know I just would be annoyed at those hating on him saying he’s biting, having birthed those they claim he bit... also, this will make UK rap significantly bigger by him doing one song bringing light to it, isn’t that a good thing?

    • @TheBogeres
      @TheBogeres  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rhone Cherrington that’s what I’m saying, like I listened to this song and the more I listen the more I like it, and I wasn’t having a dig at him except for maybe the concept of drill which is talking about the who drill lifestyle which he obviously doesn’t do. But I am glad he went out of his comfort zone to make a drill song as well as make us listeners hear a new sound etc it wasn’t hate it was just an opinion it sounds strange to me because I’m so used to the whole British drill scene

Instead, the Americans really created they’re own slang, I guess that’s one of the reasons why the US is so different.

    Drill needs energy and authenticity behind it. That's what makes the song bang. If you are a killer you can rap about cheffings and kweffings. Drake ain't about that life so it feels fake. No energy behind this song. It's dead.

    The UK rappers you can't understand what they're saying. That's why a I lot of them don't hit big in America. Regardless of what they think about the song Drake going to be big because he's Crystal clear of what he's saying.
