    I suffer from crippling anxiety, I don't stray far from home. I'm terrible at socialising and have very few friends as I have trust issues. My fight or flight always ends up in flight! I'm on meds now for my anxiety and depression!! But following amazing guys like you gives me a lot of advice and help! Thanks Jamie mate 😸😻

      Get a dog. Mine was the best thing that ever happened to me. Dogs distract you from your own issues, they make you go outside and they actually make it fun doing so. You can take them with you almost anywhere and that way can support you in stressful situations.

    I have a twin brother, and I just love him to death. He's the one that helps me out to cope with my anxiety at school by making greet the guards or teachers that pass by and then says 'Social Skills +1' or when I hold the door for a stranger he says 'Politeness +2' and stuff. He's the best

    When I have anxiety it feels like a metal cage around my heart, closing in slowly, I get fidgety, and I need to scream, but I never can, so to help I often for for bike rides, walks, drive, just get out of my house. It always feel tons better. Writing down my feelings also helps, and finishing a project helps, but im often to wired to work on a project for that satisfied feeling.

    Hi Jamie I have very bad social anxiety and what helps me the most is listening to music so it cuts down on the noise outside and also if people see i have headphones in their less lightly to talk to me because part of my social anxiety is that i can't talk to people. I've been dealing with my anxiety since i was a teenager (im 34 now) it has gotten better though and i can stay out longer periods of time now but i still do listen to music when i'm out, i just can't bear the noise from people and cars.

    Thank you for sharing these techniques. I have anxiety and I feel I've been doing better but every once in a while it comes back and tries to take over my life. Reminding myself that the anxiety goes away and nothing bad happens even during the worst moments is one way I've coped. Another is seeing it as a bully and just ignore it when I can. When I can't, I remind myself that I choose to be happy. Once the anxiety passes, I can still have a good day. Having that outlook helps me too.

    Thanks for this video! Different levels and reasons for anxiety is something everyone feels at least once in their life, but we never really discuss it as like a normal thing. The points you raised about mindfulness with breathing and distractions of shifting your focus, really resonates with me. It's something I've been practising lately because people aren't always available to have a chat, so it's good to have little things that make me feel empowered and think 'i've got this!' ☺♥

    LOL! "Living on a prayer" is indeed good for filling your head. I will try it next time I am anxious. I get super anxious whilst waiting for trains, so I will try it then. I often find having earphones in helps me, regardless of whether I have the music on or not - I think it calms me as it makes sounds around me less harsh.

    Hi Jamie :)
    I have anxiety in public transport, in a big city, I understand you well. Breathing doesn't work for me, I'll try to sing, thank you for the tip. And I have two tips for you and for others: when it come I start to count (minutes of the travelling, red cars, yellow cars, ...) or I start to speak in my head in a different language - just for thinking hard about something else and push my brain to work and not to thinking about anxiety and make it worse. The second tip: imagine you have a child with you, or a stranger who is lost in the city, and you have to accompany them to the place you go (you will end up there with no idea how you got there and it will seem fast).
    I don't say it works for everyone but it helped me :)

  • @lynnterry6511

    I really agree with the way you feel about your anxiety; meaning that I feel a lot of the same things. When I have to go somewhere new, and I have lots of time to think about it and ponder it, I'll feel very nauseous and like my heart is racing (even though it isn't), and very jittery in my own skin. I got on medication, and it makes so many more things possible for me. I'm going to college, I'm living on my own, and the anxiety isn't there every day. I'm watching this right now because I just drank a large Starbucks drink (bad idea, with anxiety...) and this video really helped me. I think that when I feel jittery and like I have a lot of pent-up energy, I might start running!

    I actually found belting out songs to be really helpful with depression in the past, so thought it was cool you mentioned singing. My go-to is the Pitch Perfect soundtrack, haha. And the other day, when I was super full of anxious energy for no reason, I just felt like I really needed to rock out to an energetic song and air-drum my way out of it, so I sat and scrolled through all my classic rock until I found a good one. Unfortunately, I was in a library, so I had to air-drum as loud as possible in my head like your singing :)

    I have anxiety about my health too and being sick away from home (especially now that i have IBS lol), but I also have depression, general anxiety, social anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. Consistent exercise helps me, as is writing down every anxiety that i have in the moment, and like you said, releasing the nervous energy through movement and talking aloud to yourself or someone else. You can write down your anxieties and say "if this thing happens that i'm nervous about, then i will ____" and make a little plan like i'm sure we all do anyway. Try to remind yourself that there are many people out in the world including strangers that will try to help you out if you are in a bind (like if you're lost, if you need a bathroom, if you forgot something.) I think it's especially hard for trans people to be trusting that people will help them out, but there are plenty of good people in the world.

    I realise this is an old video but I just watched it and can relate to it. I totally understand the part of realising the nervous energy. It does help and it's actually totally natural to do those things to release it. For example, if I'm nervous about something, I might jump up and down a bit or just shake my hands or just do some random moves and say out loud like "ugghh, I'm nervous.". I used to try to hide all feelings of anxiety and nervousness and that just made everything a hundred times worse.

    That's so funny that you mention singing. I have anxiety about driving in tunnels and in bad weather. I get through it by singing Christmas songs or having other people sing them. I just randomly started doing that, I guess because they're cheerful, and like you said, it distracts me.

    For the general anxious feeling at home listening to loud music, dancing and working out really helps me. I always take headphones, chewing gum and something for panic attacks that I got at a pharmacy. I've never used it though but just holding the little bottle helps me enormously. It's like a safety net, a way out. I'm much better now then I was last year as well but sometimes it still overcomes me even when I thought I was doing perfectly fine. Well, I guess some things never truly go away but you can learn to deal with them. I will also try out singing a song in my head the next time I get the weird feeling!

    • @AlbyK
      @AlbyK 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      chewing gum also works for me, and if i feel a panic attack coming I try to ocupy my mind making groups of things, by alphabet, for example, dog breeds with A, B, C, that kind of things helps me so i can think about something other than the panic attack. I hope it helps you out

And I tend to do what is best for me and I want and that helps me focus even more when anxiety comes in. It's part of who you are, don't kick it out. haha

  • @kazeboiii
    @kazeboiii 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I could go with the short answer to your question (poorly), but instead I'll comment. Forgive me if I ramble, as I tend to do.
    How do I deal with anxiety? Man, Idk. Anxiety's just... hard to deal with. I'm so glad you've found things that have helped you and having the support of your (very wonderful smart & intelligent) girlfriend Shaaba is great! We all could use someone (not necessarily an S/O, but someone we consider close) to help us through our anxieties, whatever they might consist of.
    For me, I just always scrambled for things to do, to distract myself from the constant head-noise. I've only recently (as in the last few months, in the time my longtime girlfriend of almost 7 years since broke up with me) realized just how much and how badly I disassociate when I am under stress and I haven't found much of anything that really grounds me. I find when I'm disassociating particularly bad, I just panic and I want to be anywhere but where I am, and I feel a lot of pressure on me-- like a physical weight all over me and everything just goes mute. I don't feel anything, I don't hear anything, I don't smell anything-- all my senses just shut off. Sensory overload maybe? I think? And the only thing that really seems to help with that is for me to go somewhere quiet and just lay down, concentrate on breathing.
    Thankfully that doesn't happen too often, but it did happen recently and it's pretty frightening when it does.
    This all taught me just how much I had depended on my girlfriend to ground me, too, bc whenever I was feeling anxious and needed to do something, she'd do something with me. Whether that was going somewhere or just playing a video game with me depended on the moment, but it was helpful.
    I also used writing as a means of venting or even just distracting myself from whatever problems were plaguing me.
    The problem, however, is I've never figured out a way to take my anxiety head on-- only to distract myself from it or ways to calm myself down from some of the more overwhelming parts of my anxiety. This only causes me more issues, as I would do things other than the things I needed to do-- the necessary things that I projected as my source of anxiety in certain cases (like homework while I was in school).
    So idk I try to give myself pep talks, but I just laugh inwardly at myself and I am terrible, awful at accepting compliments.

    I have anxiety around young people, particularly a group.
    I get all tense just try to think of something else, because people look funny at me all the time, I know it, I can feel their eyes on me.
    I'm FTM and pre-T, I don't bind because my family would be tremendously uncomfortable about it, and my chest is quiet big so no matter what I wear it's visible, so people are so confused because I look like a 14 years old boy at first but then I'll say I'm 20 and... well nothing.
    Sorry Jamie that I need to vent under your video but I never talk about it, it's all in my head and sometimes I wonder if I'm just making it up.

    • @D3ViiANT
      @D3ViiANT 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A.m Omg, me af. Even the same age. My chest is big, 42DD. So binding is _out of the question._ Haha. I'm learning to just live with the fact that I'm different and shouldn't be ashamed of it! Who cares what those people think? There are plenty of people who think no differently of me and that's what matters. It'll all come together in the end. 😁 I got a lucky break though (kinda???) since breast cancer runs _heavily_ in my family, I might be able to justify a double mastectomy in the near future.

    • @Moodisback.
      @Moodisback. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kadomex man I get all the you shouldn't care about others and stuff, but to me others are the response my other family members would have, I'm italian and my family is really big (count like 15/16 cousins) so to me it really matters what other think.
      About breast cancer is a double edged knife, don't call it if you can, even if I understand it 'cause sometimes that's my same thought.

    • @DarkSuperNinja
      @DarkSuperNinja 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kadomex - I'm a DD (last time I measured years ago, probably closer to an E cup now) and I'm pretty skinny too (fuck my actual life) but I can still bind.
      The tri-top from Underworks is a fucking legend, trust me; it doesn't make me completely flat, but flat enough to pass for sure (I go stealth at college so it works). I tried another Underworld binder (997 I think) but it kept rolling up because the bottom of it was too loose on me (I have shitty body proportions) and it didn't compress enough.
      GET THE RIGHT SIZE though; I got it too tight once by accident and I legit couldn't breathe in it, so whatever size it says is right, GET THAT SIZE!

    • @Moodisback.
      @Moodisback. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      __ thanks for the tip, I know I can bind, my problem is my family not the size, as they would be uncomfortable to see me like that and I would be too, I'm feeling that binding is still to intimate for me to let others see.
      I still don't have a binder but have heard of Underworks, I will aid your suggestion in the near future.

    • @D3ViiANT
      @D3ViiANT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A.m Yeah I get it. My intermediate family is very comfortable with it but I havent come out to my extended family yet so there's definitely a sense of anxiety there. Especially when my grandmother is a very devoted Christian and we've always had a close relationship. I'm unsure if she'll be able to completely accept who I am and it would kill me if she rejected the idea. But I mean as far as total strangers go, never waste your fucks on them. & Yes, a double edged sword indeed.

    I'm 18 and I have horrible anxiety :L but I want to try CBD oil but I can't because I'm not 21...I've heard such great things but because it's a product of marijuana (no CBD oil doesn't get you high) I've been reading about other things I could take or do and I've tried all the relaxation techniques but they don't help me...and a bunch of the supplements have horrible side effects so :/

      just smile it's important to do something about it now before it progresses any further. How old are you and where are you from? If you're still in school there tend to be school counsellors or a teacher you trust who could point you in the right direction of who to seek help from. Going to the doctors too would be helpful, and don't let them belittle it. Tell them everything and say you need some help. As Jamie said, it's not a forever thing, you will get better, but it is important to get to the root of the problem and to have support. I have terrible anxiety and depression and will go days without eating anything and then binge. I'm trying to tackle the cause of the anxiety and depression before I worry about getting my eating in order, since with one the other should follow. Good luck :)

      Elinor Jones I'm 14. I start at my new school tomorrow. My parents probably suspect something is up.

      just smile good luck with that tomorrow :) Are you going in to high school? I'm from the UK so I forget what year people start high school in other countries (we're in the same school ages 11-18 unless they leave at 16 to go to a 16-18 college). If you're parents suspect, it might be an idea to talk to them about it, they'll just want to help. I'm 24 and recently shared some things about my anxiety and depression that made him get angry, but he was just upset that I am hurting so much, he apologised the next day profusely. So don't worry about them reacting badly if that is a concern of yours, they ultimately want you to be okay and even if they need a day or two to process, they'll come around and more than likely be then ready to help in any way they can.
