    can you tell me why people don't suck the air through the filter through the light and outside thank you very much I really like your Channel

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks A Woodman. Blowing through your air cooled ventilation system mean that any leaked air is simply pushed into your garden, whereas sucking air risks unfiltered air being extracted to the outside world and creating odor issues.

    • @markmulkerrin
      @markmulkerrin 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two reasons.
      1. The Carbon filter restricts air flow, so filtered air isnt moving as fast, and the exhaust fan might not move the heat fast enough to keep temps down. With no filter that air can move really fast and get the heat away from the bulbs quickly.
      2. Separate systems means that the air that we use to keep our lights cool will not have smell because that system never uses air thats been in the grow room. Growers dont filter that air because they dont have to. Its a matter of efficiency in a sense.

      +Nick Good question Nick! Thanks for asking. :) during winter I channel the air from my indoor garden up to the floor above and heat my hallway and bathroom - so I filter the air so my house doesn't smell like my garden. My wife doesn't relish the smell of tomatoes, unfortunately for her.

    I know venting upward to work with the rising heat is important but what if restricting circumstances require you to duct down about six feet as soon as the air leaves the room? Theres about 8 feet of ducting inside the room.
    How bad is that and will it decrease ventilation enough to screw it all up? Also using six inch inline fan.
    Thanks for you help. Super instructional and I love it.

      Walter Miranda I wouldn't worry Walter. An exhaust fan and ducting will send your air in any direction you wish. :)

    I created a set up almost exactly like this. I am having a serious problem because everything is sealed so well and the large fans are pushing so much air out of the house I am now driving air down my chimney into the house. This is especially bad for heating season. My heating and air-conditioning company said I must make a change immediately or our furnace won’t fire this fall. Please help thank you.

    Will you use your home's AC to cool the air in the lung room and the mother room that's being used to cool your lights and intake? How cool should the intake and air going thru the lights be? Any general rule of thumb for that? Thanks in advance. Great setup and videos!

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Doe Thanks for your question John. I will not be cooling the air in my lung room. It's already a steady 64F because it's underground. As for air-cooled lights-be careful not to overcool as the lamps need to be HOT in order to generate the correct spectral distribution. Watch our video entitled "Does air-cooling your lamps decrease PAR output?" - think gentle breeze rather than Siberian hurricane!

    • @JohnnyBoyBurnOne
      @JohnnyBoyBurnOne 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everest Fernandez ahhhh makes sense ! Didn't think about the basement. And thanks I appreciate it. I'm setting up a 4x8 tent. 6" phresh filter and 6" hurricane fan for intake. Same for the 2 air cooled hoods. And a 6" carbon filter and fan for exhaust.. hopefully that's not overkill as far as cfms go. Any input ? Thanks again !! This channel is super informative!

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Doe Hey John. It's only "overkill" if you are exchanging so much air as to lower relative humidity or temperature below optimal levels. Obviously this is largely dependent on your ambient environment. I'd say your tent requires a minimum of around 256 CFMs air exchange. A 6" hurricane is rated at 435 CFM, but your carbon filter will reduce this by 20% so you're looking at around 348 CFMs. I don't consider this too much because 256 is a minimum. Good luck and keep us posted! :)

      i dont have a lung room, just a smaller sized grow box. would i need a small fan to push air through the air-cooled lights?

    Don't know why you cut the ducting? A spigot to seal the gap between duct a plasterboard and just run a continuous length all the way to exit, eg. better air draw, less cutting a fiddling about with fittings. Also, when you cut ducting, run some silver foil tape around rim of cut and a few inches down the inside to reinforce and get a good join. ☺and use a pad saw for cutting plasterboard/dry line..if you hit a cable or pipe, you won't be happy 👍

    So there's no 6" fan blowing through the hood vents? Does the heat just Ben out on its on? I'm pretty sure you'll need a 6" inline fan to extract the hot air right?

      Hey Eman. There IS a 6" fan blowing but it's not attached directly to the light. It's located in my adjacent lung room connected to an intake filter.

      Val Wilder Good question Val! (And thanks for stopping by.) I'd have to get the calculator out as so much of this equipment has been built up over time (and many grows!) and my grow room keeps on evolving! It's a bit of an obsession, if truth be told-just ask my wife! Lol. If you want to include all my meters, gadgets, fans, lights, lamps, and systems-probably in the region of US$3-5K. I can sit down and give you a more detailed breakdown if you like. I might end up scaring myself and the wife may then have proper grounds for divorce on the basis of abject fiscal neglect! :)

      Everest Fernandez lol I feel the same.. It's the most expensive hobby I've ever paid to ignore. I wish I had the wine cellar or just a basement period. I'm limited to a 5'X5'X7' grow tent right now but I'm using the titan kit like you are and I've gotta be easily 2000 in already.

    Where is your exhaust going? What's on the other side of the ceiling of your room? Are you blowing hot air into your attic?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yogi Bear Hi Yogi B. Good question! My grow room is in my basement. The ducting goes up an old, disused staircase and out into my backyard. It's summer right now so that works great. In the winter I plan to divert the ducting so that it helps to heat my kitchen on the floor above. Happy to make a video showing the ducting plan if you like.

  • @oljim2112
    @oljim2112 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    If inline air is going thru duct work to cool the lights and out of the room, why do you need an inline filter. That air isn't being circulating throughout the grow room, its coming in thru the bottom run thru the hooded lights and out thru the top of the room.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jim, thanks for your question. The Phresh intake filter removes dust and other particulates meaning nothing builds up inside the ducting, hoods and lamps so they are easier to maintain and keep clean.

  • @donnamoore2153
    @donnamoore2153 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You say you are going to divert the heat from the lights in the winter but what about the air being scrubbed through the filter and fan? That currently goes outside as well? What will you do with that in the winter?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generosity Popo Good question G-thanks! I may channel that indoors to the upper floor too-however I'm a little wary of pumping too much moist air into my house during winter (think of all that transpiration!) but I like the idea of waking up to an oxygen rich living space! I'll keep you posted. First I need to purchase / create a neat way of changing the air flow direction without having to detach / re-attach ducting.

    Wouldnt cold air wreck the globes or reduce the grow efficency? My room is too hot with a 1000 watt its only 4 x 4 even with a hyper fan and 8 inch carbon filter its way too hot, 34 degrees when its only 25 outside! So I dont know what i can do in summer.. Maybe dropping to 600 wats may help the room be growable in summer, although i dont know if that will drop the heat enough.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi PC, I would recommend dropping to a 600W or 750W system and consider investing in some active air cooling so you can keep growing through the summer.

    • @POLITICALYCORRECTify
      @POLITICALYCORRECTify 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, shouldnt the fan n filter setup be cooling my room? Maybe it is and it would be worse without it. Problem last winter was it was getting to 9 degrees celcius at night. What annoys me about needing the carbon filter, (used to live by myself and didnt have to have it then) is you are limited as to what you can control, no point using Co2 as it will all just get sucked straight out, and im wondering if an oil heater might help at night, or will the fan suck most of that out? I cant use an air con as no access to exit points, (Carbon goes into roof) but im wondering if the cool lights you have above will save me? Can you just extract the heat out of the light into roof or do i really need a cool air inlet for it to work? Thanks for the Advice love this channel mate.

    Hey man should I set up my intake and outake on separate sides of my room? Would it be ok if one is coming in throught the bottom and one at the top? And yes im gonna have oscillating fans for air circulation. Thx

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +KillerShootin 69 sure - ideally your extract should be high up and your input should be at bay height, in between plants and canopy. I take and out should be at opposite sides too, you're right.

    i love you videos , inspiring. anyway what was the rough cost of this room? besides lamps

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jesse Langdon Thanks Jesse! I had to build a sort of 'room within a room' using a metal framework, water supply and plasterboard plus install two new dedicated electrical circuits. That was US$2K gone right there! The equipment minus lights was easily another US$3K-some of it I had already (fans, pumps etc)-it's best to start off small and gradually grow :-) be careful as it tends to take over your life! :) hehehehe. No, seriously-the fresh herbs and produce for my kitchen, as well as something 'summery' to do over the winter is well worth the investment! I've got so much planned for the next year so make sure you're subbed! :) Thanks!

    how do i attach the duct fan to the lighr

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Miquiel Ward Hi Miquiel, thanks for your question. It's worth noting that alternative arrangements are possible. You could use a length of ducting between your air cooled hood and the duct fan instead and locate the fan elsewhere. Many growers take this approach so that their lighting fixture is not unevenly weighted with a fan attached at one end. However, if your preferred arrangement is to connect the fan directly to the hood, attach it so that it blows through the fixture, use duct tape and a noise reducing clamp, and then fixture hangers to take the weight of the fan so it does not pull down on your fixture and is more secure.

    how often does room ventilation inline fan come on?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Micheal Jordan Hi Michael. Thanks for your question. Air is constantly exchanged in my indoor garden, whether it is lights on (daytime) or lights off (nighttime). As such the ventilation fan is on permanently, although the speed / power of the fan is determined by a fan speed controller linked to a thermostat. Check out the Mercury series or Spartan fan speed controller by Titan Controls-alternatively, take a look at the Zephyr 1.
