Not a Critique of this talk:
We need to be careful to not assume that what we see on television and in mass media is populous just be cause its u ubiquitous or popular. What dominates the headlines or the airwaves does not have to be quantitatively significant and many times it isn't.
I dont believe there is a "shift in consciousness". America and the world has ALWAYS known that there is rampant discrimination and persecution based upon skin color. I will not assume that people's opinions and toleration for bigotry has changed just because more people are talking about it or willing to listen or.pretend to listen. Sometimes meat eaters stand in a crowd of vegans because vegans are the dominant or popular faction. And this doesnt mean those meat eaters will change their diet in their "real lives".
Just be cause Life Imitates Art, doesn't mean that Art Reflects Real Life.

When members of one race complained about another race, we used to call that racism. These days certain people call it the beginning of racial justice.
When racists complained about another race, we used to call that being mindless. These days certain people call it being mindful.
But we're going to defeat these people. Just keep challenging their claims; they do not stand to reason. Let's show them what real 'progress' looks like.

@@realthings5821 Actually I think that is her one most factual statement. As a child I was taught that there are 4 races. However specifically in the context of racism there are clearly many more. So how many races are there? How many white races are there? Some people include middle eastern and some don't. Can you easily pick out the Jews for example from a group of white people? I cannot. These groups that are the victims of racism are not necessarily so readily identifiable. Nonetheless the individuals may be passionate about their identity, and their identity is cultural; it's sociological.

Genetically we are less then 0.002% different from each other. We can't scientifically classify humanity as different races since we differ so little and mixed "race" offspring can have children. If you mix a race of zebra and donkey the offspring from those to animals will be infertile. That being said those differences are still noticeable however minor

All that statisticaly speaking)
It is btw how race (on the biological sense) appear on the very long term, but now yes of course we're all the same race, which doesn't prevent the fact that all have ethnic (or even on smaller scale) adaptation
But biology doesn't make morale, those are just some natural advantages regarding some situation but that Can also be negative for other situation, it doesn't make someone better or worst just because
Beside the genetic pourcentages arguments is fallacious when we know also how much of a similar adn with some animals that are so phisicaly differents than us, and btw that pourcentage difference doesn't even add up compare to another with for how many years we seperated on a evolutionary level with them)

The ignorance and willful hate exhibited throughout these comments will never be exterminated. The only chance we have to live in a healthy, egalitarian society is to make sure that the Positive People OUT-WORK, OUT-SPEAK, OUT-ACT the Negative People.
Regardless of what one thinks of this womans words and delivery, her intent is clear and undeniable. So the people who use this as an opportunity to sew division and animosity are doing so because it furthers their agenda.

This was the last nail to coffin. Its time to unsubscribe from TED talks. Its sad because this was the building block for new scientific endeveurs not a platfrom for political idealogies. First ever TED talk I watched was some drone show where Guy made drones to move in desired position with his magic police baton like controller with just a moving that to different space no touch screen controls no joysticks just that magic wand.
Goodbye TED talks, it was fun while it lasted.

@@timbale82 If George Floyd had been entirely innocent, the incident would not have happened. Nobody is suggesting the arresting officer (now guilty of involuntary manslaughter) was a bad police officer. It is wholly unreasonable to cite one tragic incident as the spark of renewed waves of racism in the USA; the problem is the whole BLM movement being out of control and promoting civil unrest many times more damaging than several tragic police errors put together.
