    Quality of water;
    1.Softness.
    2.Flexibility.
    3.benifit to other without intension of returning.
    This all quality is quality of " Love and compassion ".

      That s all good and nice but don t we forget the distractive power of water in floods, Tsunami and such catastrophes??? The only thing we can take from this is that nature is not good or bad , but indifferent to our feelings, plans and choices. I think calling the Tao good or goodness might be a misunderstanding.

    If anyone wants to know where Bruce Lee got his "be like water my friend" from, it was likely from Taoism haha. He was a very genuine student of ancient Chinese Philosophy and applied it in all aspects of his life

    • @grantengroff173
      @grantengroff173 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cosmic Onion (Vegan NonDuality) I wouldn't say likely, I would say definitely. The dao de jing refers to water many times. Bruce Lee came to mind immediately after the first time I read that wonderful, life changing text. Lau Tzu, whoever you were, thank you!

    • @davidkim2005
      @davidkim2005 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Grant Engroff yes i know and i am also 99% sure he got it from taoism but im just saying, unless there is a record of him actually saying that himself, we cannot ‘definitely’ know lol. For such an insightful and smart guy, Bruce Lee could definitely have observed water this way all on his own.

    • @grantengroff173
      @grantengroff173 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cosmic Onion (Vegan NonDuality) Agreed, I shouldn't have said definitely. I shouldn't have presented my opinion as a fact. 99% is a much better way of putting it seeing how we can't prove it. I also agree that his fascinating perspective on this thing we call life could have easily led him to see water this way. Thank you for pointing that out, I still have a small amount of ego left to get rid of lol.

    • @davidkim2005

    • @deridethetide2632

      I don't believe this is that case. I'm sure much of his philosophy came from Taoism, but his line about water flowing and crashing, and fitting the form of the receptacle in which it's poured is lifted almost word for word from the Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi.

      Another great example of that is the significance of the word Breath across religions. Breath of life on christianity the word for soul in sanskrit roughly translating to Breath. Breath in taoism, buddhism, hinduism and christianity, and islam! We're not all that different. It's like we're all in a chapel looking at the same light outside, just through different windows

    I think for the "timing with great precision" the key there is that water is never anywhere else but in the now. And since it's always in the now it is aware of the present moment; being engulfed in the present moment you have the power to react to exterior stimulus in a healthy and advantageous way. Since everything in life is connected, and mixes and mingles with each other. You want to make sure you're not in the future moving too fast, or lost in the past slowed and weighed down. Therefore the present is best, acting in accordance with the harmony of the present moment by having "timing with great precision."
