Thank you for posting this wonderful movie. What a blessing. I was in Jr. High when this movie came out. Loved it. The 70's in my opinion was the Golden Age of Television.
I think this was a Movie of the Week. My sister and I loved this film and remember all of it 40 years later it was so clever. Ed Asner just died and few remember this one.
College is not like this. If you weren't popular in high school, you have a better chance of making friends in college who appreciate you for your mind, not your social status. With Mariam's wit and intelligence I would've been her friend. Great movie.
TheWriter4christ This was sort of Columbine and VA Tech long before Columbine and VA Tech. To me films like this and Carrie is giving us a lesson and a message but for some strange reason we never pay attention to the message that is conveyed
I watched this movie at 13, it's both scary and fun! And a warning to any mean and cruel person who enjoys humiliating others. Thanks much for posting!!
I've always thought of this movie, and couldn't remember the name of it, let alone the actress. That's how young I was. I did do a search for 70's movie of extreme makeover, to see what would come up and I recognized the images shown in the search. Finally got the name of the movie, and now I'm here watching and enjoying it again
This is my childhood right here! I remember on Channel 50 in Chicago they would show this movie in a bundle with two other classic movies. A stranger in our house with Linda Blair and Trilogy of terror with Karen Black. They called it the Twisted Sisters weekend movies or something like that. And yes they played were not gonna take by Twisted Sister on the commercial lol. #goodtimes :)
"As I get older, I won't have to worry about my looks fading" "I don't remember you.." "No one ever does" "While I was engaged to him... his wife became pregnant again" "That's Lincoln, the other one is Herman" :D She doesn't recognize Abe. Mr. Howell is teaching a course. I've heard so much about this movie... I'm excited to see it.
OH THANK YOU! I remember watching this movie with my mother when I was 9 or 10 years old. CLASSIC! Never forgot the scene where Stockard Channing takes that long walk in the hospital after her surgeries. :))))
Assisti esse filme quando era criança, nunca esqueci. Sensacional. Deveria ter o filme completo. Estava procurando desesperadamente. Maravilhosa Stockard Channing. 🤗❤️🇧🇷
I saw that movie in new york i was 12 and it scared be bad. I've been looking for it ever since. So thank you very much for sharing it and i wish you a beautiful new year : )
I saw this movie on tv with my best friend and her brother one afternoon and loved it. This would never fly today, especially given the stink over netflix's Insatiable.
thomas jameson jr Too funny. LMAO. Good way to start my day. I will have to see the movie again as I never noticed the black guy. Maybe an updated version with a woman of color is due. Joan Rivers would have liked it.
Recuerdo haber visto esta película en mi adolescencia y lo mucho que me impresionó. La repitieron muchas veces en la tv, y siempre volvía a verla. Era un filme tan irreverente, tan osado. Me marcó
i could relate to your comment. those creeps really treated her bad. but there was no need to kill them. i , myself got teased & picked on all my life. i pray to god to get those creeps. ****
Muy buen telefilm emitido por TVE aqui en España a mediados de los 70 y 80 nunca mas he vuelto a verla, siempre tengo un buen recuerdo de esta pelicula, una pena que este en ingles, como me gustaria volver a verla pero en español.
2:30 OMG! People had to wait in line to register for classes at college? Wow, we are such a spoiled generation today, we can do almost everything online!
Its ironic because stockard channing is a beautiful woman. Is this movie pre or post Grease? It looks pre because she looks younger but Hollywood is known for casting 20 something year olds for the roles of high school students.
@MrRJMGREEN Nope; I got it now; she was in an episode of MASH, of all things, playing a nurse. That's where I remember her from. Boy, that was driving me nuts; but thanks for your help!
coccinelle80 no but we have set registration periods, there is no early registration unless you play sports There's definitely late registration if you wait too long to register but it's basically all up to luck otherwise.
@mlaura40s Ofcourse they did. Aside from the fact that all bullies don't like themselves either coz they know they're scum, they also NEVER tell you about the amount of nasty crap they have in their lives. Like all victims YOU were the nice person. Know that! : )
I have known people like this, if your life is that bad because of your weight, bad skin, frizzy hair, do something about it, go on a diet, work out, go to a Dermatologist, take charge of your life !!
I like this movie, although Stockard Channing isn't the best choice to turn "beautiful"; we used to call her "Stockyard" Channing when she first hit the screen.
Story by none other than the late great Joan Rivers.
Genius

A true American black comedy.
Black comedy is term meaning the plot line involves death.
thomas jameson jr Too funny. LMAO. Good way to start my day. I will have to see the movie again as I never noticed the black guy. Maybe an updated version with a woman of color is due. Joan Rivers would have liked it.

The first time I saw this movie it was in the 70's on the 3:30 movie in Los Angeles. I've loved it ever since.

Oh my God! I love you for this
A lesson on how we should treat people and how mean and superficial we can be.
"Afraid of a little competition I guess. " Good save.

Oh, and not forgetting to revenge on the bullies, of course.
Way better than Insatiable

This movie was made in 1973 so it was before Grease which was made in 1978.
@CharlestonChica This was 1973.
@MrRJMGREEN
Nope; I got it now; she was in an episode of MASH, of all things, playing a nurse. That's where I remember her from. Boy, that was driving me nuts; but thanks for your help!
This movie kind of reminds me of Heathers.
HAPPY 40TH ANNIVERSARY!!!!
Where have I seen the blonde roommate? I know I've seen her in other movies or TV, but I can't place her...
@jerico641 Her name is Susanne Zenor and she was in lots of tv shows in the 70's. She also played Margo Horton on Days of our Lives.
My fav movie..
@jerico641 She was in The Baby, and she was one of the original actresses to portray Chrissy Snow.
Hey Rizzo, where is Kenickie??? oops sorry that's GREASE. :P
coccinelle80 no but we have set registration periods, there is no early registration unless you play sports There's definitely late registration if you wait too long to register but it's basically all up to luck otherwise.
I know, thanks. I attended university in the 2000s, not the 60s.
What do you mean? I'm in college now... Did I misread this?
Perhaps. I am studying, pulling an all-nighter, plus I may or may not be high on crack lol. That's what we Canadians do. Just ask Rob Ford.
ha! everyone's got studying aids
Again the phone....by the way I´m not mexic...
Did Stockard look like this, in real life?
except you hardly ever get all the classes you want anyway
In Hollywood, attractive people are given ugly clothes and hairdos, like in this movie lol
Excuse me ?. You mean me the gue..on ?.
@mlaura40s Ofcourse they did. Aside from the fact that all bullies don't like themselves either coz they know they're scum, they also NEVER tell you about the amount of nasty crap they have in their lives. Like all victims YOU were the nice person. Know that! : )
Has anyone every been ostracized like this at a college, or is this just heavily exaggerated form of entertainment?
Surely as the "stonies" (called the cutters in the movie "Breaking Away") were, and probably still are today, by some other name still ...
yeah they were
mcdevit good actres.
I have known people like this, if your life is that bad because of your weight, bad skin, frizzy hair, do something about it, go on a diet, work out, go to a Dermatologist, take charge of your life !!
@hjb103055
Thanks; I'll have to Google her; because it wasn't DOUL I remember her from, it was something else, and it's driving me crazy LOL.
People are so horrible.
she should have shown up at the line a lot earlier
Joan rivers co wrote it
@DaveWollenberg Luckily, no! lol. She was, as you find out later in this film, quite attractive in real life :)
Thurston Howl the 3rd 🥉
I like this movie, although Stockard Channing isn't the best choice to turn "beautiful"; we used to call her "Stockyard" Channing when she first hit the screen.
And don't forget Olivea Neutron-bomb!
