Large Blue-fin crabs were know as "Hotels", after the NY hotels that highlighted them on menus. Crab-meat, cleaned and packed in tins, was labeled either "crabmeat" of "Lump". Lump crabmeat is supposed to come only from the claw. One of my favorite childhood memories - and a source of shame to my Catholic mother - was to sneak out of the house clutching a one-dollar bill to buy soft-shelled Blue-fins from two black men who accompanied a horse-drawn wagon layered beautifully and artistically with soft shells, eel grass, and crushed ice. Beds of eel grass were the favorite protective hiding place of crabs in the molting stage. "Don't let anybody see you, or they will think we are poor". Well, we were, but one dollar would buy you twenty soft shells. Last time I checked with an LA restaurant that served them, a dinner of two soft shells cost $75.

These older shows are so much better than the color ones. Ms Bandcrot was a major talent.
Anne Bancroft was so beautiful! I miss her!
Love Anne Bancroft❤
Original airdate: July 1, 1962
Anna maria Italiano.
The Bronx NY.!
She was married to Mel Brooks, a Jewish boy. She seemed so modest, humble and sweet.
Ms Fischer had a crabby job.
Fred Allen is that you?! 😂❤
Sometimes giving away the location of the contestants was too big of a hint. I don’t know why they had the contestants ever say where they were from…
Ms. Francis seems rather snooty.
More then usual.
Usually quite likeable.
If you think she's snooty, you must not have watched many episodes. She's very nice and very natural. Not in the least snooty.
BOY! Darlene looks terrible here :( Bomb lady looks better. Arlene too is worst.
