Rod's West Wiltshire Wander was a Misnomer !

  • Rod's "West Wiltshire Wander" from Acton Turville was almost entirely in Gloucestershire this year - was this a mistake? By design? It was designed for low power motorbikes - mopeds or up to 125cc but we had all sorts of bikes turn up - a veritable plethora - so Rod introduced us to some of the most disgusting roads in the region 🤣 😆 😂.
Anyway it turned into a fantastic run for the TWENTY ONE bikes that participated - we did sort of split into a big group and a much smaller one with Dave Benn, be-sandaled as ever, doing his own thing! We sort of took over the little cafe in Chipping Sodbury High Street all ordering and paying for our own stuff at least we no longer have to dig for pennies !!
Drama happened on return to the car park at the Fox and Hounds when dementia persuaded me my side stand was already down (but it was not) and I and the bike dropped to the floor - another bent lever, this time the clutch!
Then, after a nice lunch of Liver and Onions in the pub, I set off to accompany my mate Paul back up through the Cotswolds. Paul had ridden down from Chesterfield that morning, just for the ride, on his ROyal Enfield Hunter 350. I announced we would be riding through a ford and he suggested I lead the way.....I did not so much ride through the ford as UNDER it ! Slippery as **ck the bike slipped under me and I ended semi submerged in the ford - helmet full of water I could not have been more drenched and the refrigeration effect as I rode home set my teeth chattering !
Other than that all was well!!
My kids are saying I should give up motorcycling but I am trying to save them the Care Home fees!!

I had a thoroughly great day , enjoyed meeting a few of the Wiltshire Whizzers a brilliant bunch of people , some really nice bikes and a great area to ride them , as for the aching backside it was worth every mile and bump in the road , as for fords ( not the cars ) I avoid those like the plague and pretty sure I’d have been planted damp in the middle should I have tried to ride through , Thankyou all for making me welcome , very enjoyable day Thanks Rob for my dinner and letting me join the Rideout

How long did it take you to get there Paul? Been following Rob’s channel since he did ride round UK and particularly looking at the roads through our county. HNTR is a bike I quite fancy, several TH-camrs I watch (Ian Hughes, That Bloke On A Motorbike, Lanes Explorer, Shotto’s Travels) favour the Enfield 350 range for the narrow country lanes where I like to do my filming

@@RobLittleuk I could do with a bike that fits in better with your group. Presume Paul rides a lot of same lanes as me so maybe I’ll get in touch to see what the HNTR is like (I know several TH-camrs are lean on the Enfield 350 range

Nice varied selection of bikes again, kick start problematical as usual, hence the bump start.
Some of your small lane roads may not be the best way to go?, still all the old houses look beautiful, was that Minchinhampton that you were going through at one point?, looks like a mean bunch of bikers in for coffee's.
    All the Best.

🤦‍♂️ Don't go through Fords on two wheels.
I live in Suffolk and a well known Ford in the village of Kersey.
I've witnessed two people coming off bikes there two far away to warn them. The surface is covered in green algae literally like ice.
Even stepping on it your feet slip.
Lessons learned fella take more care.
    Glad you were alright.
