I have a blue black and white 90 model. Same as 89. I also had to replace some rubber parts on the carburators. And foot rubber pegs several times. Same with brake calipers and tyres every so often. Adding half a liter of oil every once in a while is a must. Apart from that, and the golden silencer with the exact Yamaha model, I had not a single other issue in all these years. I use 120/60 front instead of the stock 130/60. Heavy, but super powerful and... highest quality!
Owned this beast of a bike in '89. I used to ride from Singapore - Malaysia -Thailand (Border Town) in 5 ½ hours. The dist is about 900km. ($50 ringgit bribe for excessive speeding). My best top speed was 245km. Didn't have the balls to push it further. Now @ 76 years young, I ride a bicycle and when I hit 20 kmh going downhill ... I get a hard-on
I bought a 1987 brand new, it was my first street bike, and I will never forget the feeling of cracking the throttle open at 6000 rpm. That mid to top end rush was breathtaking.
I bought a 1990 FZR1000 last year to polish and stare at. I rode it weekly as so addictive and then rode from U.K. to Belgium and covered 3k miles in less than 5 months. An amazing, blinding bike. One of only 17 registered in the U.K. and the only one not SORN in 2023! 😅
I had seven of these (after another) in the '90s. Due to the fact I was riding all year and had no car, the bikes came fast to 70.000 km. When I reached them, I sold the bike and bought another used one with max. 10-15.000 km. The first was the '92 model with the upside-down-fork, which I lost in a deer accident with 140 km/h on the german Autobahn. The bike was completely destroyed, but thank to my guardian angel nearly nothing happened to me. After this I always bought the 1990-Model (3LE) with the two round headlights. I had 3 in red-white-blue, a complete blue one, a silver one and, as the last, a black one, which was sold on eBay to a MD from Romania... Then I stopped because of the 2nd child. At it's time the FZR 1000 was THE bike and I loved it. The bike shown in the vid is an early model, produced at the end of the '80s (2LA?) Then, in last october, after 20 years of painfully missing a bike, I started riding again. For my comeback I bought a 32-year old Kawasaki GPZ 500 S which I rode during the winter, since last week I own a blue '98 Kawasaki ZX-9R Ninja. Best bike I had so far.
Wow nice. Such a great collection of bikes! Sad to hear about the crash with the deer. It's one of my biggest fears when riding. My friend crashed his honda with a deer and called right after the crash (to come call tow-truck whilst being loaded into an ambulance, bike could be fixed though, to my surprised!) I'm currently restoring a 1987 FZR1000 Genesis in Canada right now. Found it in a sea-can so it's not technically a barn find but "can-find" doesn't have the same ring. Mine was sitting for 18 years but it was nearly all there and almost all of it was original. Spent a year so far on the hunt down for the hard to find parts but it's coming along. Before I started the restoration I was able to get the engine running and it sounds so beautiful. Yamahas always make the best sounding bikes.

I loved my FZR 10002 exup. what a machine. The front brakes were so powerful the rear wheel was often in the air under heavy breaking as the bike was so sporty.
yeah I ear same things as you do .Weird sound on idling + idling way too high . Maybe the exup valve is not set properly and the air fuel ratio is bad .

@@Darkvisor They´re not the newest bikes either, but still very fast. I think they´re able to perform about 300 km/h. ;) Also a Honda Blackbird is a fast baby. Like this bike in complete black colors. :)
I had an original 89, it was stolen, 2nd season, I then bought the 91. Then the YZF-1000 which was the final iteration. Then the 98 R1, now on a 05 R1.
I own one from 1990. Same 89 model. Stock Yamaha golden silencer. But I use 120/60 front tire and modified forks to adjust at zero, 10mm or 20mm shorter in order to improve agility. The bike is very heavy. I consider it as a highway bike, not a sportbike. Wife and I have traveled a lot. Long distances around Europe. Around 500 km a day in 4 hours of drive, stopping once or twice. 200 km can be made easy in an just one hour at the right roads and traffic conditions. I find it positive to have a lot of my body weight on my arms for long distances, very much the same as a bicycle made for very many hours on the road. I normally use 16 teeth front sprocket. Stock is 17 teeth, good only for long distance tours, and I have tested 15 which is very sporty. Wheels are strong but too heavy. Front brakes could be better. I have to add half a liter of oil every once on a while. Every 1000 km on average. More often, if riding all the way to 11,000 rpm. Suspension is alright with the 43mm non inverted front shock absorbers. Rear suspension works better at maximum extended length. Engine runs smooth from 2000 to 10000rpm in an incredible 5 to 1 ratio. You can drive comfortably without changing gears between 50 and 250 km/h. It feels... infinite. Acceleration is amazing. 0 to 100 in less than 3 seconds and 150 to 250Km/h in an instant! 290 can be seen on speedometer, but it does not feel good above 250. All in all, I consider it's a heavy but very powerful and wonderful motorcycle. Highest quality!
Thanks for your detailed comment about the bike. I'm sure others will appreciate to read it too. Sure is a great bike and I've gotten many comments now from people, all being very please with the bike. =) thanks for watching please subscribe to support me and my work
Have one rn since july of last year, sadly its creating a lot of problems since then. Its eating about 1 liter of oil on 1000km, runs like rocks lol and I had to replace alot of parts and even laquored it myself. But I love it lol. Gonna check the caburetors soon to eliminate the running issues, it doesnt want to go above 230 km/h and runs bad unter 3000 rpm.

God I remember these bikes so well! Imho, the late 80’s was truly the golden era for inline 4 sport bikes. Sure bikes got more power in the 90’s, but for public roads, what’s the point?

Had a 1987 genesis. First thing I did for the riding position was add FJ1200 bars and remove most of the plastics. Brutal naked bike, and wheelie free. Newly paved highway, no traffic, 150mph....sold it a week later for a Harley because I'm irresponsible
@@Darkvisor Thanx for answer👍 The class of the bike im looking at is naked/touring style. (I guess😁) Some examples: Suzuki Bandit, Triumph Trident, Kawasaki z6/z9 and so on, that kind of style, old school looking. But with new upprades. Hope you understand😂👍 It's in Swedish krona😁

Fun Fact : This bike remind me a R1' Predecessor (same like other FZR, like a FZR600 was also R6's Predecessor), except it still using Regular Inline 4 Engine before adapting Crossplane configuration on the Successor's
I miss my FZR had lovely bike I found the riding position ok for me being only 5ft5" felt more like a sports tourer to me, the only weak part I found was for seals as they had a habit of going, gears are a bit notchy but Yams back then were so kinda got used to it although I felt it needed 6 gears rather than 5 as I were always trying to notch it up an extra gear. I'd definitely own another one as most bikes are just to damn tall for a short guy like me lol

an awesome bike right there buddy and that sound is amazing. A true performance bike...very cool.😊
Yeah the exhaust makes it scream super loud! Like I said in the video: the sound is half the fun!
Thanks for watching. I appreciate your comments
I rebuild ome from scratch, very nice bike for its age😉
Sure is a nice bike! Thanks for watching my video beefsvalo!
Wow, seems you got really unlucky with yours. I hope you will be able to fix it soon then =)

@@Darkvisor Yeah Im on my way. It certainly teached me alot and my experience has profited from it. Still it costs just as much as having bought a nice R1 or similar :D.
Really amazing ride.
Thanks for watching buddy
Missing gears either bent shift fork or needs a clutch stack, is neutral hard to find ? Nice classic 😊
You might be correct. Neural wasnt hard to find though... =) Sure is a great and nice classic bike!

God I remember these bikes so well! Imho, the late 80’s was truly the golden era for inline 4 sport bikes. Sure bikes got more power in the 90’s, but for public roads, what’s the point?
You sir... are very right!
as long as we have decent acceleration, we're fine! =)

kool bike and rider. how old is it?🤔
The bike is 35 years old =)
Thanks for watching my legendary subscriber! ✌
I have one I'm rebuilding ATM due to a knackered gearbox so I'm going to bore out to 1040cc. Does yours drink oil aswell?
The bike in this video wasn't mine so I can't help you sorry.

Really cool bike. Not a super huge fan of super sport bikes, but the old ones are pretty rad. 🙂
Thanks for watching and for making a comment. I appreciate it
Had a 1987 genesis. First thing I did for the riding position was add FJ1200 bars and remove most of the plastics. Brutal naked bike, and wheelie free.
Newly paved highway, no traffic, 150mph....sold it a week later for a Harley because I'm irresponsible
I still have the same , the 91 genesis exup

What bike would you recommend to a beginner? The price for the bike can’t exceed 20k
And it’s a A motorbike😊
Thanks for watching!
Hmm which class do you want? Sport / custom / naked / touring / adventure etc…
20k as in Swedish krona or euro / usd?
@@Darkvisor Thanx for answer👍
The class of the bike im looking at is naked/touring style. (I guess😁)
Some examples: Suzuki Bandit, Triumph Trident, Kawasaki z6/z9 and so on, that kind of style, old school looking. But with new upprades. Hope you understand😂👍
Kawasaki z1000 / z900
Honda CB1000 / CB900
Honda cbr1100xx Super Blackbird
Suzuki GS1000
Suzuki GS850
Yamaha BT1100 Bulldog
Yamaha R1 (dom gamla som sagt)

Fun Fact : This bike remind me a R1' Predecessor (same like other FZR, like a FZR600 was also R6's Predecessor), except it still using Regular Inline 4 Engine before adapting Crossplane configuration on the Successor's
Nice fun fact, thanks for telling me =)

love the sound! 😈
Thanks for watching Jessy
I miss my FZR had lovely bike I found the riding position ok for me being only 5ft5" felt more like a sports tourer to me, the only weak part I found was for seals as they had a habit of going, gears are a bit notchy but Yams back then were so kinda got used to it although I felt it needed 6 gears rather than 5 as I were always trying to notch it up an extra gear. I'd definitely own another one as most bikes are just to damn tall for a short guy like me lol
Yeah I'm 5'7'' but sometimes even I struggle with the height of some bikes =P
Thanks for watching my video, sure is a great bike!

I have a 1990 and she been apart for years now but when she was running I had put a 1070 kit on the bike and she was quit a nasty girl from the a pipe and jet kit days felt like riding a GSXR 1000 now I like to do more to it rods oversize stainless valves lighten crank and some head work I had it ported and polishes but some bronze valve guides would be nice a six speed trans out of a 750 yamaha like a yzf 750 or fz750 under cut would also do the trick and cams from a yzf 750 I hear work too but it all takes $$$$$

Jag var så nära att köpa en 1000cc av yamaha (minns inte exakt märkning) i somras innan det blev den lilla gula :D Men den var såld :/ Lite glad att det inte blev en sådan dock. Min rygg hade dött :D
