slight clarification that is probably important, the kick is still being compressed by other parts of the kit, it is just that the kick itself is not triggering the compression of the signal

I'm pretty sure the EQ doesn't change what is being compressed, but what it is reacting to.

You're thinking of the sidechain, which the EQ settings are deceivingly close to.
