- "Bombers" by Tubeway Army is a significant early track in Gary Numan's career, highlighting his transition from punk rock to a more electronic and dystopian sound. With its themes of war and anxiety, the song captures the mood of the late 1970s while foreshadowing the innovative direction Numan would take in his solo career. The song remains an interesting piece of music history, illustrating the evolution of a genre-defining artist.
Brilliant song, haunting and one of Gary's best both musically AND lyrically. This and Fadeout 1930, both awesome.
Pinned this 😎
I have a Tubeway Army double 7" in a gatefold sleeve. Disc 1 side A is, "That's Too Bad" side B, "Oh! Didn't I Say".
Disc 2 side A, "Bombers" side B, "Blue Eyes" and "O.D. Receiver". Due to a mistake in printing, the track "O.D. Receiver" is missing. I think it's pretty rare.
"Down in the Park" is on the B side of "I Die You Die" by Gary Numan. There is also a live version of "Bombers" on the B side of "Complex" by Gary Numan.
I hope this helps. Thank you. ❤✌🤘
It helps , but I’m stuck on where does “ broadway” fit in the timeline ? That’s me saying help 😂
@@alan-reacts65 Sorry my mistake. "On Broadway" as far I'm aware is on the B side of "Remember I Was Vapour" from the "Telekon" album. I think he just covered it live mainly. ✌
😊👍😎
@@johnager6226 He covered it in 1979 during his first UK tour - featuring Billy Currie's synth solo which is legendary.
Thank you , I remember hearing it in 79 and was mind boggled 😂👍
He was a Bob Calvert fan presumably...very 'Hawklords ' .
Ok so , I love not know 😊 share your knowledge! Hawklords” ?
@@alan-reacts65 Bob Calvert was in Hawkwind and had that vocal style (much copied). At one point during a band hiatus they recorded as The Hawklords...25 years, freefall etc. Stripped down, almost bleak. Numan has Calvert's vocal style.
Great track but the ooh oohs seem to come from Grip by The Stranglers.
Will go listen 😊👍
