    A great video.
    I own a Kings, & paid $210 including everything MPPT, 6m cord as well on there daily special.
    I only use it prob 5 times a yr.
    As you said Kings has helped a lot of us to go out camping on a budget 👍

    Have to factor in the risk/replacement cost of gear getting stolen as well. I know I sleep easier leaving my $159 Kings 200W Solar Blanket out and unattended versus a $599 iTechworld one (prices accurate as of date of video 06/07/23.)

      Sure do! Although personally I hope we should all never have to factor that into our decisions when buying things, but it's the truth.

      Kings definitely was the only way I got in to over landing. From their economical roof racks, awnings to the rest of the gear. Kings made over landing affordable and I was able to do a return trip West to East coast, a total of 12500kms. And all Kings gear. Did the job.

    Hi jake maybe a independent controller not associated to any of the panels would have been a better test.

      @lilandjake  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, I've actually tried it with a different controller aswell and still the same results, I probably should have used that controller but it's the one that's attached to my van and I tried to make it simpler. I'll definitely run another test to see how the itech is tracking in the future! Thanks for watching!

    Really good comparison and you were very conscious of trying to compare each panel on a level playing field. Even though the outcome was in favor of the itech panel the overall power outputs can vary quite differently depending on the state of charge the battery is in during the test. Like dc/dc battery chargers , solar regulators have battery chemistry settings so amps /voltage can vary depending on SOC of receiving battery. Having said that you were trying to use a level playing field by charging the same battery by each panel and using the same PWM and MPPT regulator for your testing. Good video.

    I would like to see that test after a year as well. My Hardkorr put out amazing Amps when new, but after a year dropped to half the output. However they have replaced no questions asked with a new one. (3yr warranty) Wondering if ITech would do the same and also versus ITech's 1yr warranty.

    The Kings is prefect for people that go camping maybe 2 or 3 times year for a few days but if I was to go camping for a extended period of time like 1 or 2 weeks I would go with the 200 watt Itech world.

    You’d actually get better solar in Darwin than further south, unless the panels are over heating. The iTech is functioning as I’d expect in winter (I was getting over 14 amps from a 300w iTech in Victoria in winter,though it was sunny at the time). The other two have an issue to be outputting that low. I had a Kings that worked well for 6 months and then only had a fifth of the output it used to - that’s when I upgraded to the iTech 300w and have been happy with it so far

    What a great surprise, an extra dose of Lil and Jake. Well Jake anyway😄 I had to check the calendar as I thought I lost a day or 2 when I saw your video pop up. I'm surprised with the performance of the Hardkorr panel, not disputing your results. What was the state of charge on your battery when doing the tests? If it was full or close to full the regulator would limit the charge current, where if the battery has a lower state of charge then the panel becomes the limiting factor for the charge current. So hard testing panel as there is so many variables. Still a top effort though.✌Feel-O-Vision there's an interesting concept. 🤔 Look forward to your Saturday ep, hopefully with added Lil😁😁
    Cheers

    Great video I really enjoyed it, but I have had the total opposite result from my Itech blanket and my Hardkor panels.
    My itech blanket is a 280 watt 3 years old and I have only ever seen 80 watts output in perfect conditions, on the other hand I have seen 10 amps 120 watts from my Hardkor 200 watt panels.
    In my experience with itechworld is that they under Perform the advertised but I don’t have any experience with their batteries.
    I think your mates Hardkor panels may have a fault in them.
    Maybe one of the panels is not working correctly.

    • @lilandjake
      @lilandjake  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Cheers binzy, yea how strange! I guess itechs technology has come along way in 3 years! I did check all the panels on the hardkorr by covering each one individually and checking they were all working. I think the low amps was from so much smoke in the air around Darwin, stick around and I'll test them again soon!

      Hey legend! I got that one from bcf in Darwin. Think you can get them at Jaycar as well

  • @practicalnottactical
    @practicalnottactical 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A couple things here. Winter in Darwin is when its going to be optimal for sunshine as there is generally no clouds around, and Summer in southern states is when you are likely to get the best sunlight. In both situations the max ambient temp will be about the same, which is HOT, meaning any solar panel will be running less efficient. Secondly, did you drain the battery enough for it to even accept a charge? Or at least provide a big enough load so that each panel had a fair chance of displaying what it was even capable of. What was the load on the battery at the time of testing? Was the fridge cycling on and off at the time, we can hear a fridge running during your summary, but that does sound like it's in the caravan though? And finally, any solar panel that only produces roughly 25% of its rated capability is either faulty or junk.

    We run just one solar blanket and it’s a Redarc 160 and we average across the day 7 amps in and it’s just a straight blanket but if we want angles we just use the windscreen or camper .
    I believe that all products have pros and cons just like you said.

    M in MPPT stands for Maximum. This feels like an ad for the orange brand. We all know you need to make money on the road but we, the consumers, watch a lot of TH-cam and know when we’re being sold something. I think I’ll stick with my Redarc hardware and PowerPaul australia batteries.

    have to admit the suns ferocity can change a lot over a short time, i often watch my 150 Harkorr panel go from 9 to 6 amps even with no clouds around so its possible that could affect results, also it will make a difference how full the battery is as amps will often go down as it gets close to full. Its pretty hard to tell how sunny it was but my old 150 watt Hardkorr will be anywhere from 6 to 9 on a bright sunny day so i really think something is wrong there. not sure how to do a better test than you have though, maybe a constant load on battery while doing it??? maybe someone else has a better idea. Great effort though.

I did do this test a few times at different times of the day, and I even covered each panel of the hardkorr to make sure they were all working correctly. Pretty much the same results though. I'll do another test in 6 months time with the panels and we'll see how they go, cheers legend!

    can pick up that kings solar blanket on a good special for $150 can't beat that IMO plus itechworld have been caught out with there batterys being alot smaller capacity then advertised for, powerpaul debunked what itechworld claimed. Then the Owner of itechworld was threating powerpaul with people coming to his house and sorting him out, i wouldn't buy itechworld gear ever again.

      The biggest problem is kings have a 1 year warranty and the panels either dont work right from the start, or they provide about 80w out of the 200 claimed, and after a year they fail totally, but you're out of warranty. On the other hand their 250w folding (glass) panels i have two of, and they reliably produce 180w each. Considering i paid $145 each for three that i own, the $ per watt is fantastic for a portable panel.

      @@lilandjake, you are correct mate, I didn't go far enough down the page "Comes in an all ready to go kit with Anderson plugs, alligator clamps, solar regulator and 5m extension lead."
      Both Itech and Hardkorr are on special today for $599 (down from their rrp listed above). Kings blanket is also on sale today for $159 ....... almost a quarter the cost. When you put the Kings blanket against the chairs you only had 50% of the blanket angled towards the sun which isn't really correct when comparing it to the other two that were 100%.
      Maybe stick to the RRP (recommended retail price) rather than a sale price, it will last longer than a month 😀
      Maybe catch you up for a beer in Northern Queensland late August mid September 👍😆
      Not trying to take food out of your mouths mate and I know endorsements are an important source of income. I used the rrp of each blanket to get a price more consistent than what's on sale.

    meh.. A 100w renogy light weight panel can do 7 to 8 amps and is 6kgs.... so power per kilo these things are shyt. plus they are double the cost? I get 32amps from 4 panels 25 metre extension. and no you cannot do this with flex as your amps are too high. So camp under a nice tree take some renogy rigid panels and a 25m ext (yes you need a mppt that accepts 100 volts )

    @DIY12-24v ปีที่แล้ว

    Your testing methods is wrong. One reason why they do less laying down is heat buildup your itec was not laying down for the same amount of time before testing. As they heat up they will decrease in efficiency.
    Also that king's mppt is not a true mppt also it has a high potential of over charging your battery

    all those panels in my books are crap... as a example.. I got a 300w 70.8v solar blanket.. only 2 stores in australia sell the high voltage blankets.. Higher voltage is better for days that are cloudy or lower UV but even better in perfect days.. its also etfe coated. It cost me $755.. In brisbane laying it flat on ground gets me 190w and using victron smart controller it does about 58-60v which the current is around 3amps but the volts then convert down to 15.58 which in turn gives me 13amps into battery.. Laying on a angle best Ive got was 73v 5.5a current 350w and 26amps into battery.. The best it can do is 29amps to battery. But it also means I get higher output then any of those 3 panels and most low voltage panels in the early morning and late afternoon and totally cloudy days.. lIke ive gotten 93w at 11am and the day was full of clouds.. you couldn't see any blue sky or the sun and yet I was still hitting 62v 1.5 current but getting 6.60a into battery.. I got a friend with hard korr and on the same day she was getting 1w, less then 1 amps into battery was like 500mah into battery.. sometimes nothing..

      Cheers gb you legend, no need to worry though! We'll see you on Saturday morning as we always do! And for the bush barbecue, we do have a kings fire pit, maybe we could find another one to compare if you think that would be a good video? Thanks for watching! ❤️

      @@lilandjake If you go to a rubbish dump or places where they recycle white goods. You can often find old fridges that have the older style shelves with stainless steel racks - rather than the newer glass or plastic shelves. These make great open fire grills. Just place the grill between a few well placed rocks and light it up. Oh, you just have to places sausages across the grill slats - unless you buy thick sausages that won't fall through. But a simple steel fly (like Crimesafe etc.) mesh carried with your BBQ camping gear can be place over the top to stop things falling through. Good for veggies, sliced potato chips, etc. bacon, anything like that. Thanks for reply so quickly. You are the champions...I was only a legend in my own mind...40 years ago. Now...the legend died. 🤔😁🤣😉

    Its a shame and I understand why all these youtubers must go down the commercial route. I search out the "newbies' and follow them with much joy but then it just turns into a push push products as the others. I understand why but let's be honest, here it's a sponsored advert and the results are hardly independent. Not saying wrong but clearly setup.

      Hey Ashley, I know it might look like an add, but for me this was a video that I would watch and that's why I did it! We haven't been paid nor is there any obligation to say itech is better, this video came about as I noticed our new blanket seemed to be alot better than the kings so I tested it, showed my friend, who then wanted to test his, so I bought a $60 reader, and thought I'd show everyone the results I got! Yes we are affiliated with iTechworld but we would also never lie or fake something, sponsors are important but our subscribers will always come first. ❤️
