    This is good for the younger candidates to listen too, I am amazed at how unprepared candidates are for the interview process. They have the knowledge we are looking for, but we find that unprepared candidates fail to shine through communication.

As an athletic trainer, I was curious if you had any stories of past experiences with us or maybe talk about joint medical personnel collaboration when 2 branches of 1st responders (EMTs and ATs) work together for a patient. Thanks! Have a blessed day. Stay Safe!

      I'm wrapping up my school and I had the hardest time with this that I did was type them out or write them down and then I would ask myself them 5 or 6 times a day put them on your phone or one in the car one in room one in kitchen and anytime you pass one of them say them in your head then start doing it with out the list and check if you got it so write them out and compare

    • @joeydiamond1504

      Best way for me is to flashcard it and just keep making yourself memorize it through testing ex: just finished eating or any other random time just write it down.

    • @user-fy1xv6nu3f
      @user-fy1xv6nu3f 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      for dcap-btls its actully rlly easy and i didnt realize it until my teacher asked us about it. Just remember its TRAUMA! so when you think of trama what somthing that starts with D? Deformity. C? Contusion. A Avulsion. P? Penetration. B? Burn.. and so on.
      For sample all i did was wright it out with the full word next to each letter. I started with just SA. i said them outloud, put down my paper, then said them again. I did this till i could get down the full thing.
      All of the acronyms are really easy once you get them down. It took me a second to associate an actual meaning behind the words though cuz my brain thinks weird but i just did my phsycomotor a few days ago and in the scenerio i was able to go through them without even thinking much it felt too easy!

    When they ask medical scenario questions do they want the textbook answer or is critical thinking ok in that case? (Like if the scenario requires a tourniquet application should I say 2-3 inches above the wound, or is "high and tight" usually acceptable?)

    • @PrepMedic
      @PrepMedic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They want to see that you actually understand what you are talking about. In your example, if you were to say I would Place it 2-3 inches above the wound unless I can’t immediately identify the source of bleeding in which case I will apply it high and tight. You would be good.

    • @Ebact92
      @Ebact92 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Decide what kind of learner you are first then go from there. I'm a self starter with many years of EMS experience so I picked a majority online program but if that's not you focus on programs that have lots a classroom and instructor time. Then ask your local guys, I asked almost every paramedic in my department where they went. I narrowed down the top two everyone suggested and ended up picking the one that fit my learning style above. Side note I also never went to college so the it was intimidating but you'll fall into it quick.

    You need more than a pulse? I didn't know this was a competitive market. I'm joking, but sort of serious. Here in NY if you have an EMT card you're basically hired; Paramedic card is pretty much a sure thing. I'd love to work in a State where there's enough providers to be selective who gets hired. Honestly, at first I thought this video was going to be a spoof/fake/funny.

  • @IstLtHawkeye

    Eh... the suit advice isn't really it. For a fire department? Sure. Because their PAT is given at a different time than the interview. But these days they have limited time for the interview, knowledge test and PAT, they don't want to wait for you to change and you don't want to do that PAT in a suit.

      Why are you applying to a minimum wage EMS job is the real question.

    • @dantemontalvo8709
      @dantemontalvo8709 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@PrepMedic that's what they pay. I'm actually a volunteer I do this as a service to my community I have a career and I'd much rather serve for free as a firefighter than work for a company like AMR. Any other questions? Fast food joints pay more than most ambulance companies it's a shame there should be no defense for that.

    • @PrepMedic
      @PrepMedic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dantemontalvo8709 Yeah but AMR is just one EMS company. There are thousands of good paying EMS only jobs that pay well. I agree with you that we end up shooting ourselves in the foot because we actually compete to make minimum wage instead of not accepting that level of pay.
