I'm glad you have people so special and close to you. These people are hard to find but really make life worth living ( i wonder how little Anthony would react if he knew someday he'd have such a loving wife and friend circle)
I NEVER had to deal with broken frosting before going vegan. NEVER!! Since then, I've done everything I can to prevent it but even in this video, you can see it was a little broken and it infuriated me lol!! Luckily, it still tasted DARN good!!!
Another masterpiece, Joanne, what an amazing feat of love for Anthony's special day! I love your julienne technique on the peppers; it has always annoyed me how thick the pieces come out no matter how thinly I try to chop them, so your technique is an absolute game changer!! You are so multi-talented, and very inspiring. And a very happy belated b-day to Anthony! May the next 50 years bring much peace and happiness to him. 🎂🥂🎉🎈He's sooo blessed to have you as his spouse.
Absolutely loved everything about this from the reason, to the visuals, to the music, to the vibes, and the love that went into it all! All of these dishes look amazing! Since it was prepared in advanced, was it all meant to be enjoyed as cold dishes? If not, which items were meant to be enjoyed warm and how were they reheated? Thank you!
You are such an inspiration! The music was great, the dishes looked amazing and so yummy. I would have been the rude guest asking for leftovers to take home 😋. Thank you for your content and effort in editing this video. Phenomenal job Joanne! Happy Belated BDay to Anthony 🎉
I got your cookbook for my birthday last week, and I'm so excited to make lots of yummy Korean food! I lived in South Korea for 3 years, and really miss the food. I'm vegan now, so fin8your channel was incredible. Thank you for sharing your love for food, and for sharing your energy with us ❤
I am so grateful that you posted this. I am African American who loves Korean food ❤️my granddaughter’s mom is 1/2 Korean and since we met over 20 years ago it’s been love for the culture, the food especially. I even started studying the language 😂I know it is funny. But, I am still researching recipes and now I’m doing soups and stews. I’m going to make jjigae and fried mackerel with purple rice and some sort of kimchi my granddaughter doesn’t want the tofu in the stew🙄she wants tteokbokki instead🤷🏾♀️ That being said I’m going to make the recipe for the fried chicken mushrooms because you see I’m toying with the idea of becoming vegan also👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
That's amazing!! It's always so meaningful when I hear that non-Korean poeple are interested in Korean food and Korean culture! Love that you're exploring other cuisines, language, and cooking!
The fact that you cooked all the course from zero and managed to get nice footage of every dish, that's so amazing!!! I think you might save more time if you don't have to worry about videoing the whole thing. But man, this video is epic!!!
That was very tricky. I ended up air-frying the mushrooms, kept the soup at a simmer, gave the pancakes a few mins on the stovetop, and kept the tteokbokki in the pot until service. The japchae was fine (it’s not meant to be eaten hot), the bread was great, and even the gyerranmari was still delicious (if a little hardened). The pasta wasn’t warm anymore but there’s not much I could there. It was still delicious!
This is a beautiful labour of love - happy birthday! Even thought it was a bit different to see it chronologically, I actually think it's a bit better because i dont know if people understand how complicated it is to cook 10 dishes *at the same time* there's a ton of jumling back and forth otherwise no one eats until 11 pm 😂
Happy belated birthday to your husband Anthony! 🥳🎉 Everything you made looks delicious. The dish with the leaves in it really looked like art. Also I didn't know that there was a pasta dish with pesto, green beans and potatoes in it. So thank you for passing that information on to us. And the cake looked both pretty and delicious.
A beautiful display of food ! I wish I had your time management and execution when it comes to cooking. When I cook multiple things at once, something ends up cold 😑.
@TheKoreanVegan I bet it was still fantastic 😉. Your food always looks awesome. I actually tried you Spaghetti alla nerano recipe and it was delicious.
A very happy birthday to your husband 🎉❤ he is so lucky to have so lovable wife like you ❤and you lucky too have husband like him…always stay blessed….spread positivity to the world ❤❤❤
@@TheKoreanVegan Thanks for replying ☺️! In case you read this, I also want to add, that I absolutely love your podcasts ❤️ I like how your introduction always blends in smoothly with the rest of your interactions/stories and how you get to the point with your questions! Also, I just tried marinated eggplants and they tasted soo good, do you want the recipe for them ^^ ?
Hi! I started with the things that didn't need to stay warm (bread, cake, cucumber moochim, etc.), then moved onto the things that would be easy to reheat (chicken fried mushrooms (just stick em in the air fryer), Korean pancakes, soup), and then ended with the things I knew would not sit well (tteokbokki, japchae, and pasta). I also designed the menu with that in mind--knowing that I could only do about 2 to 3 dishes at the same time. I hope that helps!!
Ok that mushroom looked delicious! For your dishes u added flour to, have u ever substituted wheat free alternatives? And what type of mushroom was that?
Any tips on how to keep everything you cooked or food warm until the guests start eating it? I am also a proponent of cooking everything before guests come, so I have max time talking to them! I have kinda struggled with keeping all the food warm and soft etc
Hi Samanta! First, you’re just going to have to get comfy with the fact that you don’t work at a restaurant and therefore it won’t be perfect. Good news is, your guests know this already! Unless you want to get burners and hot plates OR stick to making only a few simple dishes (who wants that?), not everything will taste like it came right out of the oven or off the stove. Second, you want to have only 2-3 dishes to that you KNOW will not sit well. For me, I knew the tteokbokki, japchae, and pasta would not be good if they sat out too long. But I also knew that I could handle cooking all of them pretty much at once, esp because I have an extra portable stovetop. Third, I frontloaded all the stuff I knew didn’t need to be served warm: focaccia, cake, cucumber. Fourth, the majority of the items were things I could easily reheat: chicken fried mushrooms (zapped them in the airfryer right before dinner and they were delightfully crunchy), pancakes (gave them a quick refry on the skillet), miyeok guk (just let it sit at a gentle simmer until time to serve). Fifth, I used my spreadsheet to build backwards from my desired dinner time, noting which items would be passive (reheating the mushrooms and soup) and which would be active (cooking the japchae, pasta, and tteokbokki). Sixth, when the pasta came out a little cold after sitting out a little longer than I liked, i tasted it and it was still delicious so I didn’t freak out! Hope that helps!!!
Thank you Eddie!! The next episode will be a bit delayed as I'm catching up on finishing Book 2, but we'll be resuming our regular schedule in 2 weeks!
I am so glad my algorithm showed me your videos! I have been really excited to find more diverse, authentic cooking channels, especially women, as I feel the TH-cam market is pretty saturated with (well-meaning) white men 😅 your style is comforting and inviting, you clearly know what you're talking about with food, and you and your family seem so happy!! God bless 💜
Amazing. Have tried several of your recipes, everything is so good!! Would like to do the Korean dishes for my sisters 30th birthday. Do you reheat the fried chicken mushroom, vegetable pancakes and tteokbokki? Or do you just serve it cold? Thx 🙏
Hi! That makes me so so happy! I air-fry the chicken fried mushrooms for a few minutes, until they get nice and crispy again. I also reheat the pancakes by sticking each on the skillet for a few minutes. Tteokbokki, I make right before dinner, and leave it in the pot for a few minutes while I prepare service. Hope that helps!!
hehe u proved “if they wanted to they would” 😮 your husband is lucky :) im going to have to make myself some seaweed soup for my bday, i love myself so that counts as making it for someone you love right? hehe i need to try the pancakes asap! thanks for the video!
are you serious, the japchae is labor intensive? dunno how long all of that took but any one of those dishes would be a labor of love. if you put all that together in one day, well, i'm exhausted just watching you! brava! brava! accolades to the chef!! looks phenomenal. and wishing Anthony many very, very happy returns of the day!!!
-We soak the seaweed first and only use sesame oil at the very end for the seaweed soup🤔 -Semolina flour for jeon - An easy tip for glass noodles is to soak them in hot water, don’t boil them 😅

An epic meal and a beautiful video and memory that I will be revisiting for years! Thanks for the best birthday dinner EVAR!!!!
Hats off to you for cooking 10 dishes on the same day, and everything looked really tasty.
thank you so much!!! It was a fun and delicious but also stressful and hard! LOL!

How did you keep everything at the right temperature before people arrived? This is amazing.

Why it is important to make the cucumber kimchi sauce in advance?
It thickens into a glaze over time. If you wait too long though it turns too thick. A few hours should be good!
