I love the innocence of these two,( not meant to be condescending at all). I remember the first passage I ever made, the world was just so alive and everything was on high alert. Good on ya crew sailing has its ups and downs but its all worth it
Thanks for showing the part how you dragged anchor. I think I'm going to be getting a Rocna style anchor soon. Lola is one of the cutest dogs on youtube.
YEP! Manson Supreme or Rocna! Lacking either it is a real pain to set two anchors. But I did it plenty times. Dragging is MORE than a drag! I would free dive and inspect my anchor almost every time. Especially in grass with a CQR. I would have to dive and MANUALLY set my CQR off Peter Island in the BVI's. Huge grassy area beach anchorage. I wish I HAD one of the modern designs. I hated my CQR. The danforth was pretty good, but far from ideal. NEVER liked the Bruce.
With that clouds like that on the horizon I would have re-set into a V formation with two anchors or used a straight line double tandem set. Keep developing your skills and reading..It was a great video of life and squalls in the islands. Love your stuff !!
We were in Georgetown when that squall came through. One of the scariest moments I have had sailing. We got 52kts recorded from another boat. Definitely a stressful night!
Even if the storm is as heavy as this, it on the other hand comes with this certain feeling of comfort, when you know the anchor is set well and you can have a nice warm cup of tea while it is blowing as hell out there :) At least I feel comfortable then.
I had an Ericson and one thing I really loved about it was how well she handled wx. She cruised in a straight line like a drunken sailor with two left feet, but she made up for it in rough seas. Total tangent, but what are your plans for next season? Looks like I'll be closing on my next boat here shortly and I suspect I'll be Carib-bound in the spring.
Most people with the eye on the Wx will anchor between the Majors ( current -less N area) good holding, not to comfortable but safe ----- or on west side of Big Majors( prettyest, most comfortable, and for NW or W tuck in 1 to 200 ft from N end but stay away from the cut there as you will lay to the current and not the wind), and in S wind anchor farther south. Good thing is you can get to any of those spots with some warning. Stay away from E side of the Grotto , south side of between the Majors and Staniel Cay's small hbr.
We anchored between the majors at first as well as around 50 or so other boats, hearing that the weather would be coming through those two days. Was not much weather and the wind shifted from big rock cut and left everyone exposed so everyone cleared out back to day to day living. Next day, got hit by this tropical front. Funny weather said 10-15 kts with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Thing formed almost right on top of us or just south.
Minion Man if you are into fishing, here's some striper fishing I did back home this past summer th-cam.com/video/NcqA0j0n7Co/w-d-xo.html That's a separate personal vlog I have going.
it's addictive, sailing around, the freedom to do what you choose, the atmosphere of everything the blue water, you aren't going to give up are you Wes? take care bro, thanks for the vid.
On your chart plotter..... Isn't there an alarm setting that you can initiate that will warn of anchor dragging ? My brothers boat (a 50 foot ketch) has that on his chart plotter... Worth checking.. :)
When you get your next boat think about adding a Aqua Eye monitoring system. I just installed one on the yacht I work on. If your interested I have a video on the install.
Have you thought about post a video that shows your journey down the ICW and to the Bahamas on a map? Love seeing your travels but would like to see it on a map if possible. Hope work is going well and you're making progress on more cruising possibilities.
Hi ...... Thanks for a nice "fishing" video .... (big smile) Now.... that little book with the fish descriptions... I really looked pretty hard after something like that. Often I dont eat what I get on .... just to be on the safe side.... Who sell that book please ????? Good winds
Hey guys ! Good to see you guys and about ! Suggestion, sell the fish book you showed at least twice in your videos, thru your site ! If not too expensive, I'll buy it !
+Wicked Salty Well, once you kids gets settled in Charleston, let us know. We get up to CHS about every 3 months or so. We'll be glad to fatten you guys up on RED meat at our expense. You can't survive on little pieces of fried fish that the rest of the world calls BAIT. Y'all look a little hungry and so it would be our pleasure. We believe in consuming adult beverages as well. Cheers, Lee & Krista.
+Wicked Salty I know, I was just teasing you ! LOL I was referring to the storm Kate that is down there ! Is Parity still in Charleston ? If so, when do ya'll plan on getting back in the water ?
+Wake for Me Rocna, Manson supreme and vulcan anchors will be more effective than the typical plow. I would have wanted at least 80 feet of chain for ICW/Bahamas anchorages to reduce chances on the keel wrap when anchoring with opposing wind and current (fin keels). 150 ft or all chain if planning on going to deeper waters. Parity is still on the market going strong..
@wickedsalty really glad you guys were ok after that one. Would some of those be classified as "rouge waves"? Regards and keep up the good work, also how's the boat hunting going?
+chris robinson "Would some of those be classified as "rouge waves"?" - Absolutely not! Waves are never "rouge". You need to ask your wife, girlfriend or daughter what "rouge" is, although I haven't seen any woman using that makeup item for a long time. so they might not even know. Sorry for this rogue post ;D
+Mike and +chris robinson LOL being that I'm not a sailor, I didn't know rouge waves were a thing! I was just funnin'. As far as crimson tides, Mike, I've seen them quite often being that I live in NYC. Every time the NYFD opens a fire hydrant nearby we have crimson tides of rusty water for the next 1/2 day coming out of our faucets!
Arrrr you scurvy salt dogs, way to weather the storrrm Ahewww. Good job on keep'n that rum secure. ...Stay safe hoimies and don't sweat the small stuff.
That's plenty. hahaha. Anchored in almost the same spot. If you ever get down island, look us up. We sail yearly from Grenada to St. Martin. Been here since 2005. Times Two
@milanothecat no I know exactly what I was asking. I was wondering if wicked salty had ever come across waves with a soft reddish to alabaster tint. allowing them to cover bad skin before a blind date. I thought the question was rather clear. Regards.
I'll put this plea out for Wes and Kate, again. Would an outboard dealer please donate a dingy motor. Perhaps you will get mentioned in the vlogs once in awhile. Seems worth it. Someone .....step up.
Every time you guys fry things on that tall skinny stove inside, it scares the poo out of me. In other news, what camera are you guys using now? Sorry if you've been asked this a billion times.
+Wicked Salty Hey, my name is Luke McCollum. I stumbled upon yal tonight while studying my charts and plundering through TH-cam. My Grandfather and I are striking out from Pascagoula MS on the first good weather window we get in the new year. We are headed over to the northern/central Bahamas. We will be sailing my grandfathers Hunter legend 40.5 named the Blue Dolphin. Just curious as to how long yal plan on staying and would love to get together if we cross paths. At least to enjoy a rum & coke and some fish.
+Mark Pentilescu They had assistance of those 3 boats very quickly there's a time when there can be too many hands on a situation. Don't always look for reasons to hate people man, there is good out there! Cheers.
+Mark Pentilescu By the time we inflated our dinghy, got her equipped and row over, those boats would have had her unstuck... but if there was no one else there I would definitely of offered a hand.
"i would not want that to me my boat " but it doest seem that you have much sympathy for them ... think if it was your boat , then what . ? i help everyone as soon as i see there would be a problem or there is a problem . only way !
+Soder Cyklar I just meant I wouldn't want to be grounded, I don't think anyone would want to! I'd be having a mental in a nice hinkley like that. I do have sympathy I said "We've been there" Notice they had 3-4 boats helping them within moments. Would have taken me longer to inflate my dinghy and row over... then what? There's a time when there can be too many chefs in the kitchen, they had tons of help. But yes, if we we're the only boats in an anchorage, I would have been there for them regardless.
Every time you guys fry things on that tall skinny stove inside, it scares the poo out of me. In other news, what camera are you guys using now? Sorry if you've been asked this a billion times.
Never gets old watching these great videos.
I love the innocence of these two,( not meant to be condescending at all). I remember the first passage I ever made, the world was just so alive and everything was on high alert. Good on ya crew sailing has its ups and downs but its all worth it
+sasfish s :)
I'm in a weather class and this video was very helpful. Thx.
You two are an awesome couple! Matter of fact your channel has inspired me to save up for a boat of my own. Keep being awesome guys! Cheers!
There's nothing like extreme weather to heighten the senses.
go the ab crunches Kate!
Thanks for showing the part how you dragged anchor. I think I'm going to be getting a Rocna style anchor soon. Lola is one of the cutest dogs on youtube.
+Down In The Islands I think Rocna is the way to go. Thanks!

wow, that was a heck of an anchor path.. the 90 degree turn in the path was impressive!
+Lo Kee It's like the CSI of wind shifts, CRAZY!
We were in Georgetown when that squall came through. One of the scariest moments I have had sailing. We got 52kts recorded from another boat. Definitely a stressful night!
Way to tell it like it is guys!
Thanks again for a great video and story.
John H.
Love your videos man, keep it up. Must've been an experience through that storm.
+Michael Sanchez Definitely was! Thanks!
that was one of the best yet guys.... makes me so want to get out there.. just bought a Paceships PY26....

Your doing O'kay, learning. Wait until you're anchored and you see a couple waterspouts coming your way!
Your Yorky is awesome. What a great Sea-Dog.
What a storm! Must have been an impressive experience! Thanks for sharing :)
+Learn to Sail It's definitely an experience! Thanks for commenting :)
2:51 just a friendly tip. On the end of your open face reel there is a dial. Loosen it to loosen your drag. You will loose less fish.
it was caught on bottom, i had just reeled it in tight frustratingly trying to unsnag it, can break a rod that way though if youre not careful
cant unsnag it with a loose drag
gotcha, caught many a oyster reefs myself
Minion Man haha glad I'm not alone!
Minion Man if you are into fishing, here's some striper fishing I did back home this past summer th-cam.com/video/NcqA0j0n7Co/w-d-xo.html That's a separate personal vlog I have going.
Gorgeous Hinckley that they ran up on the hard there. Do you see many true luxury yachts cruising all the way south where you are?
it's addictive, sailing around, the freedom to do what you choose, the atmosphere of everything the blue water, you aren't going to give up are you Wes? take care bro, thanks for the vid.
+jwrappuhn71 Not a chance. Cheers man!
That was really good Salty. Thanks.
That looked like some great Windsurfing conditions! minus the 75mph gusts though!
Wicked rain storm . Great videos !
Check out more info on the tropical storm that formed on us here! It came outta no where!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Ana_(2015)
So the dingy engine has capped out on you completely?Does it still make compression and does it make a spark?
On your chart plotter..... Isn't there an alarm setting that you can initiate that will warn of anchor dragging ? My brothers boat (a 50 foot ketch) has that on his chart plotter... Worth checking.. :)
Hi Wes and Kate, What book(s) are you using in the video to identify the fish?
When you get your next boat think about adding a Aqua Eye monitoring system. I just installed one on the yacht I work on. If your interested I have a video on the install.
Have you thought about post a video that shows your journey down the ICW and to the Bahamas on a map? Love seeing your travels but would like to see it on a map if possible. Hope work is going well and you're making progress on more cruising possibilities.
Classic wicked salty. Cheers, Ted
Hi Guys. Could u tell me what books u use is with all the fish properties? Thanks
Couldn't really tell from the video but looks like you don't use much chain.Looked like fun :)
Is a second anchor feasible for storms? Wye it off the cable? Thanks
great videos I'm hoping to be moving on my boat in october
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing .
Any worries about ciguatera from the reef fish?
I had to go back and double check but you guys have been at this for over a year now. Hopefully you can guys can get back to sailing again soon.
+LEE CUMMINGS It can be tough being in between places, just gotta push through!
+Wicked Salty Well, once you kids gets settled in Charleston, let us know. We get up to CHS about every 3 months or so. We'll be glad to fatten you guys up on RED meat at our expense. hi guys what size is your boat
It always scares me when Lola plays in the water....just a mouthful...but I know she made it home safe...
love your videos.
Thanks fore sharing.
`great vid ...what was the anchorage ?
I just can't help it - even knowing better for YEARS.
My head always pronounces cay as kay, even though I know it should be key.
did you set two anchors or just one on that storm?
Squalls generally last from 15 to 45 minutes
I thought ya'll left the Bahamas and now I just heard that Kate is threatening the place ! LOL
Can't wait to see some more videos ! Be safe.
Eric
+Eric McVea We we're in the Bahamas from this past March - June, we took A LOT of video :) much more to come!
+Wicked Salty I know, I was just teasing you ! LOL I was referring to the storm Kate that is down there !
Is Parity still in Charleston ? If so, when do ya'll plan on getting back in the water ?
What was the name and ISBN of the first fish book you were referencing?
wow pretty crazy weather.where are yaall now ?back on the boat?
Now that you have salt behind your ears, would you set up your anchoring rig differently? If so, how?
Awesome vid BTW.
Has Parity sold?
+Wake for Me Rocna, Manson supreme and vulcan anchors will be more effective than the typical plow. What happens in the case of a lightning strike? Is the boat and you protected some how?
Most sailboats are grounded
You change your underwear.
@wickedsalty really glad you guys were ok after that one. Would some of those be classified as "rouge waves"?

Wasn't this area pummeled by Hurricane Joaquin? How did it come through it?
Lola is becoming quite the fisher dawg :D
thx for sharing
what a long mast does that yacht has, the one who´s stranded on the rocks
Could you tell the name of the software or web page (i don't know), you had used to see that storm?
sailflow.com
Why do I think of the Evil Dead cabin at 14:50?
what if your boat has three layers upper middle and lower foor?
Awesome videos dude.
Hi. I'm interested in your fish guide book. What is the name of it? Thanks
Arrrr you scurvy salt dogs, way to weather the storrrm Ahewww. Good job on keep'n that rum secure. ...Stay safe hoimies and don't sweat the small stuff.
Just curious how much chain do you have?
I was wondering the same thing
What are those two books you used?
What was your scope. It looked a little short?
+xxtwr1 More than 10:1
That's plenty. hahaha. Anchored in almost the same spot. If you ever get down island, look us up. We sail yearly from Grenada to St. Martin. Been here since 2005. Times Two

Wes/Kate, how do you cook your fish? Typically
what type of boat?
what fish books are you using?
+Brock Saucerman One was called "Reef fish of the Bahamas" another was called "Sportfish of the Atlantic"
I'll put this plea out for Wes and Kate, again. Would an outboard dealer please donate a dingy motor. Perhaps you will get mentioned in the vlogs once in awhile. Seems worth it. Someone .....step up.
WOOHHOOO ITS WSW
+VarietyBacon Haha just about to start the upload! I'll say 2 hours from now just so you don't have to keep checking ;)
the name on the fish species guide book ??? :)
Every time you guys fry things on that tall skinny stove inside, it scares the poo out of me.
In other news, what camera are you guys using now? Sorry if you've been asked this a billion times.
Damn, that dog is cute.
That wood stink to wreck a hinkley!
Good eye. 😉
You need more chain on that anchor.
17th!
wicked wednesday!
Like a golden retriever but louder.

Where does your dog to to the bathroom?
Tropical storm winds but not hurricane.. trust me there would be no more land..
uhm that fish was black not red
Suggestion: Next time another boater, including a stinkpotter, needs assistance, you might offer yours ... instead of filming their difficulties.

+Richard Ulmer We did.
