I can’t agree with most of these. Handy makes sense in English the way Beamer does for BMV. Sure, we don’t use it in the UK but it’s just a nickname. Bodybag is similar, just a descriptive nickname, and is nothing in the face of ‘bumbag’.. Public Viewing is used in the same way in the UK. It is not restricted to funerals. It is used more widely than you claim. Have you never heard the old English term ‘smoking jacket’? “Wellness” - sorry but you’re completely wrong about this. We have ‘wellness centres” in the UK and use the word more broadly than you describe. Very similar to German use of the word.
German here. Tried to use these topics for small talk in the UK and US during vacation or business trips. Fully agree with you. In the UK the use is similar to Germany, even in the US this is not 100%. So, my German try in small talk went wrong... BTW: Oldtimer vs. classic car - Germans love to have one word as a noun. This is why we write it capitalized. Why adjectives if you can use a noun.
There is also a phonetic difference between the UK and US, which is perhaps shown in this video. And that is the widespread German tendency to pronounce all English "a" vowels as "ä". I think it must be taught in German schools! To an English person, this sounds really odd, but you can hear the American pronunciation of "handy" here is actually much more similar to the German "Handy" (pronounced Händy). It's not exactly as far as German ä, but much closer! As English kids in the school playground, if we wanted to put on silly American accents sometimes we'd say some "a" vowels as "e" in English. 😄
2:50 Sure Jan, sure 3:08 in the US, I hear this for auctions, meetings and concerts, but just 'viewing' for a funeral wake. Perhaps a Jamaican thing? 3:40 never heard of this phrase
You are right the black "Smocking" stand alone in German, however the white "Diner Jacket" includes the jacket. The term "Home Office" had caused confusion with British friends, because for them it is a department of the Government, responsible for immigration, security, and law and order.

Guten Morgen
Auch „das Engagement”
Smoking jackets are a thing but its not a suit jacket. Its an outer wear to protect your suit jacket from the tobacco smoke
Another one:
Southern Germans might call a tractor a bulldog. Even though it is neither a dog, nor a bull.
