Every year sri lankan English literature is expanding with more new writers. Last year we had Anouk Arudpragasam a Sri Lankan in the shortlist for the Booker Prize. This year we have a winner! And Onddatje was recently nominated for the Booker for the second time with his novel Warlight and Romesh gunasekara was shortlisted for Reef many years ago. And of course it goes without saying the prestige Ondaatje's The English Pateint brought to SL English literature. And we will have more faces and more victories, no doubt!

I tuned in late but seeing this man interrupted during his speech was upsetting. Having listened to the continuous droning of the judge and chairperson (?) with the announcement of the shortlist, I’m shocked that the WINNER of the prize was not allotted the time he needed to complete his acceptance speech. Shehan Karunatilaka said as he accepted his prize: "My hope is that in the not too distant future... Sri Lanka has understood that these ideas of corruption, race-baiting and cronyism have not worked and will never work”
Sri-Lanka is bankrupt because of endemic corruption, cronyism, race-baiting and violence!
There have been numerous race riots (against Tamils and Muslims) in Sri-Lanka, for example in 1915, 1958, 1977, 1981, 1983 and 2019.
It is worth noting that Ranil Wickremesinghe (the current president) served as a senior minister in several governments since 1977.
The race riots of 1977, 1981 and 1983 were organized by JR Jayawardena’s government.
Ranil Wickremesinghe is a nephew of JR Jayawardena!
In 1981, Jaffna library was burned down. The goons were led by Cyril Mathew, who was a minister in Jayawardena’s government.
Cyril Mathew was widely regarded as one of the key ministers responsible for instigating the anti-Tamil pogrom of July 1983, which subsequently resulted in the outbreak of a 26-year civil war.
In 2004, the former President Chandrika Kumaratunga gave a public apology to Tamils for Black July (the 1983 riots), likening it to Nazism.
Recently, Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private house was burned down in Colombo. He complained that more than 2,500 books were destroyed!

I read this book, and when he mentioned strange i thought yes, i loved the fifth moon and and osme sense of humor inthe book, but mostly i give the book 3 stars.
Also me i keep givign camilla the eyes. Also upset earlier when i saw dua lipa and camilla being introduced to each other, when they didnt have anything in common, dua lipa is british famous popstar in the music industery, she loves london her hometown whicj is big city, but camilla loves the cojntry side and horses.
