    I love the videos, just started surfing a few weeks ago. Getting out the back has been exhausting and took forever! Today was the first day I felt like I went anywhere when paddling. Had more time to actually catch waves!

    Very important to focus on using your back, chest, and arm muscles and not your shoulder muscles as much as possible. Prevent injury and paddle harder and for longer

    Hi Ryan, thanks for the vid, re kicking legs, what about if you are on a 7ft+ board and your feet are on the board and not in the water? I kick my legs up anyway as it helps me to pop up, not for generating momentum

    • @HowtoRip
      @HowtoRip  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point Scott, on longer boards you would be limited to your upper body only

    • @surfershaper
      @surfershaper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tested the kicking theory in a pool. Did not generate any forward thrust at all. Waste of energy, and it never helped me catch waves easier either. Try it yourself

    You're wearing gloves in this vid for warmth or are they webbed gloves for more paddling power?

    • @exploreinfinite9175
      @exploreinfinite9175 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They’re gloves for warmth, webbed gloves use up your energy and burn your shoulders.

      @HowtoRip  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For warmth

  • @kitesurfer
    @kitesurfer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Capped hands? I heard that's not good for reserving energy (as capping hands requires more energy than relaxed palms). I've also read a research about swimmers who have more propulsion from relaxed hand as air trapped between fingers doesn't allow water to move through the hand therefore increasing the effective paddling area .

    You mean “kicking back leg, “ is lifting tip of the board after pop up.

  • @SURFtheEARTHguru
    @SURFtheEARTHguru 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Kicking the legs is a waste of energy. They are not in the water enough to generate speed and they would be more efficient in the pop when they are not kick. There are a lot of places like east Florida with nesting beds. These sharks are annoyed at flailing feet slashing and often give a territorial bite. All the videos are great. However this one can use some work. Hands cupped with finger slightly spread, get hands deep in the water where it is more dense and paddle in an S shape motion. NO KICKING!

    • @HowtoRip
      @HowtoRip  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Disagree with you on this one, kicking makes a huge difference paddling into waves. This is a shorter video with some key points, but not all. Hence the 'Quick Tip'...

  • @marcass100
    @marcass100 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not to be a dick here but I am kind off disappointed with a content. Repetitive, not fully explained etc. Wouldn't "How to rip" and all of us be better off having one key tutorial or whatever video in 2 weeks than 2 not great videos in 1 week. Just a healthy criticism. Even this video could have more information how not to swing while paddling include biceps for easier paddle when top back muscles hurt and how to let arms pass under surfboard on sides of it. We all would appreciate and benefit more from better content with more detailed information. Anyway keep it coming. Thanks.

    • @HowtoRip

      This video is part of the 'Quick Surf Tip' playlist, therefore it is relatively quick one. I've chosen to keep it simple and to the point, focusing on key areas. Thanks for your feedback
