You just know that truck sat under a Christmas tree back in '57 and made a boy's Christmas morning and a lot of hours afterwards fun! I received a lot of Tonka Toys as a kid for Christmas. They were special gifts!
My 4 year old really enjoyed watching some of this. After he got bored(15 min in), I skipped to right before the reveal. He asked me to see if you have restored a "big rig" toy. 😊
Except for the snowplow, I had a 1957 orange Tonka dump truck EXACTLY like this one!!! Chip, i’ve been watching your restoration videos for a couple years now. I thoroughly enjoy the start to finish, including your cat at the end. I’ve seen the growth of changing from a hand press, to an electric press. Also, the CNC machine, and other tools you’ve changed, or upgraded to which makes your shop look so professional and the go to person if you wanted to restore an old pressed steel truck. There are many other individuals who also restore, toys, etc. that I give kudos to, but none compared to you. Thanks for always taking the time and care to show everything you do, including the weld bond to cover, imperfections, pitting, etc.
This is my favorite restoration so far. I had a “Big Mike” snowplow which was handed down to me from a cousin. Like all my Tonka’s it got played with outside and Big Mike got pretty rusty over the years from “plowing snow”. I truly love the detail and craftsmanship that went into bringing this awesome piece of childhood history back to life.
Chip, it's always fantastic to see how you transform a neglected model into something even more beautiful than new. It's relaxing to watch your video's.
I love your videos. I am a person with incomplete quadriplegia and this is something that I would love to do, given mobility. Your videos let me experience it visually and I appreciate it

I have to say thanks for being a respectable channel. I've seen too many fake restore channels and it's good to know there are some good folks doing it right!
I appreciate that Ray Wood! My biggest struggle is finding toys in rough enough shape to restore and make a good video out of it. Too many people think once these toys have a ton of rust they are worthless, which is too bad, I'd love to find more toys needing help!

i have to say this ,its so nice to see someone when reassembling the the restoration , using a towel :) i have watched some people do all the work ,powder coat .nickel plate .and then assemble it on a hard surface . scratching the paint work . breaks my heart . props to chip .its the little things that matter .the small details that make a difference :)
I think that you do a fantastic job of restoring toys to their former glory and understand that the market wants original-looking toys. You paid $465 for what many of us would have termed and rust bucket and made it like new. I dream of a day when a toy could be converted with scratch-built interiors, windscreens, windows, and real-world paint jobs and logos. But I suppose that would devalue the toy. But keep doing what you do and bring back the toys of our youth. God Bless.
The complicated construction, parts count, and “gimmicks” on this plow-truck are quite surprising considering it’s era and the subject matter. Of course for me by the early 70’s when I had a few, they were quite simplified. Everyone wanted the big yellow dump truck, cause you could ride on it lol. Nice work!
