    In 1985, Back to the Future was a box-office hit, the Live Aid concerts were huge successes, and Larry Hartke introduced aluminum-cone speakers to unsuspecting bassists shortly after building a cab with the drivers for Jaco. Hartke’s new HD-series combo amps sport an even more radical speaker design. Let’s look at the compact HD75.
    Hartke the Herald Angels Sing
    The HD75 is a straight-ahead 75-watt amp with a single 12" HyDrive speaker. The HyDrive isn’t all-aluminum, but part metal and part paper cone. The goal is a speaker with the snap of aluminum and the warmth of paper.
    Without effects, a tuner, or superfluous functions, the HD75 does one simple job: amplifying your bass. Some players prefer built-in extras, but I’d rather have an amp that sounds great with no distractions than a mediocre rig with clutter.
    At a little over 48 pounds, the HD75 it is a touch heavy for a smaller amp. With little on the back panel beside a power plug and on/off switch, a balanced DI out would have taken the amp one step further, and a top-panel power indicator would be more convenient than having to look around back. But on a $250 amp, these are small-beans issues.

    I now have had this amp for a year and it has never let me down, great for rehersals and even small to medium gigs and the best part is it can handle pedals perfectly

    Wow, this amp sounds great. I got an older type A70, all aluminum cone, it's just a great amp, it smoked a Laney combo twice its size. Volume 2 or 3 is enough for rehearsal.
    Now this HD75 sounds even better.

    I have one just like this. I have to say of all the basses I have, it may be my favorite. It is super comfortable, sounds fantastic and the craftsmanship is over the top. So if you every have an opportunity to play one, give it a try. He's right, it's a hot rod.

    just starting out keep in mind the Hartke is a seriously nice combo any model of the HD line are simply great for the money and if you can score a classic vibe series Squire your doing great. learn everything you can circle of 5ths to chords leave songs alone and concentrate on Bass theory. and remember think Bass when playing to many bass players are guitar players with a bass dont be a guitar player with a bass be a bassist with a bass. and rock on!

    I used one of these for around eight years in a five piece. I had a weird rig. I wanted to hear clean tone onstage, our sound guy wanted the bass through the PA (it has two bins) so he could mix FOH right, the drummer and lead players needed to feel the onstage bass, I didn't want boom. So I had a Hartke 2500 head on a 4x10 cab pointing back at the band, and that stood on an Auralex pad on the floor. On top of that at my ear height was the HD75, clear as a bell, which we miced into the PA. I really loved playing like that! Why spend fortunes on getting a nice bass tone then you can't hear it when you play live?

    I have this amp. It's pretty great, loud as hell, but the problem is whenever I play a low note and certain other notes, the amp itself shakes like hell and the speaker pushes out a lot of air, and sounds like ass. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this supposed to happen? If not, how can I fix it?

    • @SanitysVoid
      @SanitysVoid 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that is the problem with any amp that is only driving one speaker. The only situation I want to use such an amp with is just practice time or playing to CD's.

    Hey! This was an awesome review! I purchased this Amp couple of days ago and loving it. But, I have a little concern. When I connect a Phone/MP3 player to the Amp through the Aux Input it treats the Amp as a Passive Speaker and starts playing even if I don't switch on the Amp. And when I do switch on the Amp (to play my Bass) the music from the Phone/MP3 player gets highly amplified and a bit distorted too. Am I doing this wrong? Please help me here.

      You can play a guitar through an bass amp, but you cant play bass through an guitar amp (this could damage the speakers if i remember corectly). The tone will just be darker on the bass amp.
