    Outstanding!
I'm sure that I am not the only one to see the similarity to Poe, in this. Pure imagination and word-spinning, which finally ends in an abrupt and unexpected climax.
Superb - as is the narration, as usual.

U nailed it , Offshore. It's more in the realm of POE-etry than science. A tone poem for those inclined to go along with its spacious but intriguing ideas. Cheers. Good health and wishes to you! E.E.F.

"Sex was thus destroyed." Welp, count me out... J/K, another great performance, Edward! Your voice continues to bring gravitas to these wonderful little stories, and you continually introduce me to works I've never heard of before. :)

How bleak! Your reading makes it come alive in perfect 50s B-movie decor. At least in my pinkish hopefully unmad brain. Thank you.

You are the best reader I’ve ever heard except for Vincent Price.

While this was a rare space-based science fiction that was not like the corny aliens from Mars invading Earth garbage that we've all been subjected to in film and second rate literature, it lacks much of a science basis. I can imagine the astronomers, physicists and cosmologists having a good giggle. Another reason you should tackle The Black Cloud which brings real science into this genre. Still, you imbued it with some dramatic effect, in the reading of the tale. The idea of depicting life as evolving along a path other than the one we've known on Earth is praiseworthy, but again it lacked a science basis for how it was described. it was more fanciful than real. Still, you made even this somewhat inferior sci-fi work worth hearing.

Thanks, Robleh100. I decided to tackle Wandrei's text before I took too much time to analyze the science. The IDEAS rather than the science attracted me. Ideas about evolution, however quaint, are also fascinating. And the story had a Poe-like vibe hard to dismiss. Oh, hell. It was FUN to read. Cheers. E.E.F.

Surely, this is supposed to be *entertainment*, not science (!)
(You would not, I imagine, question just how Superman flies, or the fact that Kryptonite probably doesn't exist?)

@@FrenchEdward06 Okay, I admit my criticism was harsh. After all the idea of suspension-of-disbelief is what we have to do when read fiction or watch movies. So, I apologize for that, gentlemen. Poe? Some of his characters were certainly mad. Cask of the Amontillado comes to mind. Still, there is sci-fi that overcomes the principle of suspension-of-disbelief, and leaves the viewer/reader saying... Wow that could really happen. 2001 the movie did that to me as a kid, well until it fell apart after 2 hours... and disintegrated into I don't know what. But, I'll withdraw my criticism.
