The first season is book 1 and I actually liked the show a little more than the book. I also watched The Vampire Diaries in high school! Damon and Klaus were my favorites. Hope you are doing well!

And you have beyond convinced me that I need to read Robin Hobb- I feel so invested in the Liveship series and I haven't even read it but I know I'm going to love it. I'm definitely in a fantasy mood so after my current read I will dive back into the genre

So glad I watched this now, just got the trilogy of A Discovery of Witches for 4USD on a cyber Monday kindle deal! And I also rewatched TVD, right in the beginning of lockdown, with my bf that had never watched it before, we got so into it and flew through all 8 seasons, the early ones are soooo addictive.

Omg I had a Vampire Diaries rewatch earlier this year when I started paying for Prime. To me, the first 3 seasons are just perfection, they took me back to my teens and gave me all the feels. Season 4 and 5 are kinda meh, but watchable. After that, a full blown nonsense, i just kept going 'cause I got spoiled and wanted to know how everything would come to pass. Anyway, it was fun and #teamdamon always ❤
A Discovery of Witches is easily one of my favourite books I've read in the last couple of years, I love it. The TV series is also great, in a slightly different way - less of the history and academia that I love in the book, but more action and more focus on secondary characters. Season 1 is an adaptation of book 1 so you won't spoil yourself by watching it. Book 2, Shadow of Night is quite different from the first, I still like it a lot but not AS much as Book 1. Book 3 is my favourite of the series.

The TV show aired on SundanceNOW and Shudder in the US, and Season 2 will also air there a day later than the UK, on I think the 8th/9th January 2021. There are DVDs of season 1. Book 2 is set in history so you’ll love that if you love historical fiction! Season 1 is just Book 1! Season 2 is where book 2 starts, so read Shadow Of Night before that.

I didn't have an issue with the romance in the first book, but I dnf'd the second because of it. The power dynamic seriously shifts the the guy because they're in a situation that he knows infinitely more than her, and he uses it against her and keeps her in the dark.
As someone who loved “The Discovery of Witches” and watched the show in the UK I can assure you season 1 only covers book 1, but we are about to get a 2nd season soon. It also came out on Amazon Prime as well as Sky over here so I don’t know if you can get it through Prime in the US?
I like DW but the first was harder to get into then the other two books. I think it’s bc the wine talk bored me. I adore history so I kept at it and I was so glad I did. Book 2 was my favorite! Also those 🥟 from TJs is life!

Matthew is so old-fashion sometimes, I mean it's pretty obvious since he was born centuries ago but man, what a Cro-Magnon macho can he be sometimes! Very teritorial... Anywho, the show is breathtaking, the scenary and actors are perfect. You can watch season 1 no problem, it only adapted book 1 with a little hint of what happens next if I'm not mistaken. Hope you'll like it as much as the book, so good I swear

There is also a companion book for the first 3 books which has pictures and info of the places she used in the books. I hope you continue the series soon cause I can't wait for your reaction. Season 1 of the show is book 1 season 2 comes out in January that will be book 2 season 3 is currently being filmed.

I got excite that the All Souls trilogy is a FINISHED SERIES (I don't read unfinished series anymore...looking at you, Martin and Rothfuss) so went to check my library. They have all three books, but A Discovery of Witches in large print only and shelved as sci fi, then the next two in different covers, shelved as fantasy, and both on loan. Weird library things.
I have watched the show which you can stream on Sundance which you can get a 2-week free trial, the 1st season only covers what's in the first book it's an amazing adaptation. Season 2 airs in the US come January 5, 2021, and they are already filming season 3. It's one of my top favorite books and tv shows.
Just wait until you get to the second and third book of the A Discovery of Witches trilogy...it just gets better and better! Also you should check out S1 of the show because S2 is coming out in January! Also book one is set mainly in Oxford in the UK and the story doesn’t go to Europe until book 2 😜❤️ Ps. You should totally watch the show because S1 is verbatim book 1 so if you haven’t read book 2 you won’t be spoiling anything yet but there isn’t long until S2 comes out.

I actually DNF’d the second book to the discovery of witches... this makes me want to give it a second chance. I just had SO many issues with the main relationship and that they’re both supposed to be grown ass adults but it reads like a YA novel 😫

I think you would really enjoy The Originals. Out of the three tvdu shows I think The Originals is the most well done. I know it’s my personal favorite too. Although TVD is more nostalgic (since I began watching it in middle school and now I’m in college). And I like Legacies but it’s definitely more for entertainment > quality although I have a personal attachment since I got to go to a fan premiere for the pilot a couple years ago 😂

The Discovery of Witches just went onto my TBR :)
I love the Discovery of Witches series! It is a trip. So much happens throughout the books. I haven't read the 4th book set in that world yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

I just started reading Ship of Magic! Also I just went through a rewatch of Vampire Diaries a few months back and I am 53...lol. Still love it!
I got excite that the All Souls trilogy is a FINISHED SERIES (I don't read unfinished series anymore...looking at you, Martin and Rothfuss) so went to check my library. They have all three books, but A Discovery of Witches in large print only and shelved as sci fi, then the next two in different covers, shelved as fantasy, and both on loan. Weird library things.
I have watched the show which you can stream on Sundance which you can get a 2-week free trial, the 1st season only covers what's in the first book it's an amazing adaptation. Season 2 airs in the US come January 5, 2021, and they are already filming season 3. It's one of my top favorite books and tv shows.
Just wait until you get to the second and third book of the A Discovery of Witches trilogy...it just gets better and better! Also you should check out S1 of the show because S2 is coming out in January! Also book one is set mainly in Oxford in the UK and the story doesn’t go to Europe until book 2 😜❤️
Ps. You should totally watch the show because S1 is verbatim book 1 so if you haven’t read book 2 you won’t be spoiling anything yet but there isn’t long until S2 comes out.
The narrator for the Discovery of Witches on audible is also incredible if you wanted to listen to the 2nd/3rd books!

I went to my mom's house last night and she had Discovery of Witches sitting on her bookshelf and I said, "Hey I've been wanting to read this!" She then informs me that I'm the one that bought it for her. haha!
I actually DNF’d the second book to the discovery of witches... this makes me want to give it a second chance. I just had SO many issues with the main relationship and that they’re both supposed to be grown ass adults but it reads like a YA novel 😫
You can watch season 1 of A discovery of witches, it doesn't spoil book 2 and 3 :) season 1 follows book 1
Since your loving Vampire Diaries you should also watch The Originals and Legacies since there both spinoffs. I think you'd enjoy. I loved it!! 😊
Love Vampire Diaries it's the greatest! I also watched its two spin-offs, The Originals and Legacies. So good! I also have read Discovery of Witches and the second one. So good! I have the third, just haven't read it yet!
I'm currently marathoning my way through Teen Wolf! (I may well rewatch the A Discovery of Witches TV show when I finish, ready for when s2 comes out in January.)

I think you would really enjoy The Originals. Out of the three tvdu shows I think The Originals is the most well done. I know it’s my personal favorite too. Although TVD is more nostalgic (since I began watching it in middle school and now I’m in college). And I like Legacies but it’s definitely more for entertainment > quality although I have a personal attachment since I got to go to a fan premiere for the pilot a couple years ago 😂

FYI you can see the Discovery of Witches on paid tv Sundance channel. REALLY GOOD. The first season is basically the first book so you won't spoil yourself for the next 2 books. There should be a season 2 sometime in 2021 too. Keep reading and sharing!!!!!

I really enjoyed The Discovery of Witches. God, I read it eight years ago! I have the sequels, but I haven't picked them up. But I hope I do, one day. As for the Vampire Diaries - my absolute favourite is Klaus! 🥰

The DW season that is out only covers the first book, but the second season keeps getting pushed back so who knows when it will actually air.
