The Burning God destroyed me!! I loved this trilogy, RF Kuang is brilliant. But at the same time I wonder how I love these books so much, they're not an easy read. Maybe it's the characters, so heartbreakingly humans

I just got done reading The Dragon Republic and loved it. I am now starting A Sky Beyond the Storm. And then my daughter Hanna found The Burning God from the library. So I might read that after A Sky Beyond the Storm, if it doesn't break me. Otherwise I will read a Christmas Book and then read The Burning God.

Totally fair! Oathbringer had so much content in it! I'm so glad my first read through lined up exactly with the ROW release! You need to read Dawnshard before too though! It was an awesome novella! Also thanks for introducing me to brandon sanderson! #influenced😂
I literally just finished The Burning God this morning! It broke my heart and I loved it (but I preferred the first two!!) Rin was getting on my nerves a little hahaha
Some other fantastic middle- grade fantasy reads (for any age) : The Thickety series, Morrigan Crow series, The Blackthorn Key series, and The Language of Ghosts.
How about: Five Kingdoms, Beyonders, The Land of stories , City of Ember, Fablehaven (these are all some of my favorite books and are great middle grade series)
BURNING GOD SPOILERS !!!! someone pls discuss w me 😭😭😭😭 - - So first I had an inkling near the beginning RF Kuang would have Venka be a traitor and it really makes me so sad that we really don’t know whether Venka was going to betray Rin or not and I do believe that her final act was to save Rin but bc of Rin’s psychosis we don’t get any remembrance for her or memorial and it makes me so sad but I understand why. And then to see Rin arrive in Tikany and to see the poppy fields fully grown as something that can save them and the hope that brought me and then to hear her say this isn’t the end it hurt me so much to see her in anguish as they burned and becoming so totally obsessed with the war and then seeing her have to fight Kitay and him withholding the fire it just broke me I was so sad to see how low Rin has gone and like you said it’s so heartbreaking because these choices are choices she has to make and granted she could do better but this mindset of constantly being below and being worse and wanting power has so thoroughly infected her mind it made it so hard for me to want her to fail because in some capacity she deserves to be free of this idea of being lesser and her killing herself and Kitay dying was just the straw that broke the camels back for me. I knew in my heart there was no way Rin was going to survive this series but to have to read the scene where she tells Nezha to do the best he can to save Nikan and preserve their culture against the Hesperians and drawing the knife into her heart just obliterated me. It hurt so much to end the book knowing what the Hesperians will do to Nikan and how disadvantaged the nation is from war and how there was nothing Rin could’ve done no matter how hard she tried to save it or be the hero. :( this was the best series I’ve read this year and to date it just really broke me and filled me with so much appreciation for RF Kuang’s talent and prowess.
Just finished it last night and I'm not okay. I'm just thinking that what was the sense of Rin being so powerful, liberating the whole country but then it's still not enough.. what's the sense of it? Because her death just means that Nikan went back to square one.. what's the sense of all the hardships but no victory?
