This is my second time through BIAY. Somehow I missed this very important and powerful story of Abraham and Isaac as it is revelation of God and Jesus' cooperation in the salvation of the world. I knew reading the whole Bible again with Fr. Mike was going to be important in my life. Thanks, Fr. Mike. Thanks be to God!
I don’t mean to use this is a means for my own prayer requests. However, this morning I suffered a seizure which occurs rarely. I have not been sleeping well and got very angry with God yesterday and suffered the seizure this morning. I know the strength of this community and if you are reading this I would be forever grateful if you could lift me up in prayer I would appreciate it. Thank you and now I am praying for this community every day.
Lord we Love and Adore You. We know that You hear every whisper of our heart. You recognize our Sincere Love and Faith in You. Favorably grant our prayers in accordance with Your Will in Jesus' Name. Amen. ❤
Thank you to all who prayed for me. So far my tests have come back normal and a cause has been identified which has allowed me to return to normal activities. I appreciated the prayers and I know they helped!
This is the first time I’m hearing that Isaac was probably 30-33 yrs old when the sacrifice was to happen. What a profound indication towards our father and the sacrifice of His only son, Jesus Christ.
I tried reading the Bible on my own for a couple of years now , and I was all over r the place , it was such a distraction and it made me feel like a failure. Now , I feel like I'm on the right road to prayerful reading of the Word . I needed discipline and community. Thank you Holy Spirtit , Ascension, and Fr Mike. & everyone else following along ! I lost my only son, (Daibhog) back in March 2000, on the day he was born. We knew for seven weeks beforehand that he would not make it ouside the womb and we had him bapised before the umbilical cord was cut. It took time but I now know and I feel so blessed to have one of our five children home with God the Father in His Heavenly Kingdom. Sr Breige Mc Kenna told me a few years later, she was giving a talk in my hometown, that I have a Saint in heaven!! Never forgot her words. This consolation, given to me by the Lord, through others, led me to become a Deacon, in Ireland. I answered His call with, we had the hymn played at our Ordination day, "Here I am Lord....it is I Lord...I have heard you calling in the night....." I will be ordained 10 years this year on the Feast of the Archangels. Praise be Jesus and Our Blessed Mother. Blessings from Ireland. Deacon David. 🙏❤❤🙏
Thanks for sharing this. My parents lost their #6 child a girl and she was baptized Mary in the hospital. God blessed them with a daughter, my younger sister 13mo later. I have four brothers & one living sister and one sister in heaven. Your story has brought to light that I have a saint in heaven. Thank you as I have not been thinking of it in that way. I WILL NOW. ❤🙏🙏🙏
Father Schmitz and dear companions on this Bible journey, please know that you are all in my prayers asking God's mercy and guidance for each of you and all your loved ones always, which I ask for in the names of Jesus and Mary.
I am praying for this Community--the ones who walked this Bible journey already---the ones who walk it now with me and for future Siblings yet to find this amazing blessing. Prayers pour in for you too Father Mike! Jan 11, 2024.
What an amazing gift this series is - Day #11 of a commitment for 2025. Please pray for my wife's ovarian cancer and know that I am praying for all of you to open your eyes, ears and hearts to the Word of God!
Praying for your wife. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 7 years ago. I am so thankful to be participating in this podcast. Being diagnosed with was was a revelation for me; as is the story of Abraham & Isaac. God is with us every step of the was. God bless.

"Hes too good, for the end to be destruction" - Fr Mike. truer words have never been spoken. take heart, have faith, this is not the end.
Coming home to the Catholic faith after being baptised in the church as a child and not being raised in it any further is such a blessing! I'm so grateful to be here! I'm so happy to finally read the true full Bible for the first time in my life. All the stories are here as they should be. Praying for everyone here, now and in the future taking this personal journey learning about our Lord.
Wow! I never have read the Bible completely or in the manner we are doing now. I also never put together how this story of Abraham and Isaac is very much related to Christ sacrifice and crucifixion. Lovely to hear this and be on this journey with everyone! Thanks Fr. Mike! May God bless you all! God loves you! ❤❤
Last night was the 3rd night in a row I didn't sleep due to chronic back and neck pain. I was screaming and crying and yelling at God in my bed. I was so angry that I wasn't going to go to Mass today. I listened to this and just bawled my eyes out and decided to head to Mass. As I was heading to a church I never go to, Fr Schmitz starting talking about "trust" and right when he said that word, I looked up and there was a huge sign in front of me that said "TRUST". It was the name of a bank lol. Felt like more than a coincidence. 🙏
Look up Athleanx on TH-cam. Possibly he has some answers for your chronic back and neck pain. It sounds like you and my daughter have similar pain. Her back literally locks up and the pain is excruciating. I have found that some of the exercises on Athleanx do help her strengthen the muscles and alleviate the pain. (surgery is not an option at this point) In the meantime prayers for your recovery. ❤️🙏❤️
Jesus died on the cross and he took away all our sickness, pain, suffering and by the divine exchange gave us salvation which is a total package of healing, prosperity and freedom. In 1 Peter 2:24 scripture says by the stripes and wounds of Jesus we are completely healed. Believe in the promise of God and claim your healing. In the name of Jesus i rebuke the spirit of infirmity and be loosened in Jesus name.
Have you tried acupuncture? It worked wonders for my uncle's chronic back pain resulting from a serious traffic accident, and also did away with my incipient rheumatism when I was in my 20s... Keep trusting and be blessed!
@@KB_2161 Thanks for the suggestion as in 2000 I was to have two back surgeries but I canceled them when I was told that I probably would not be able to walk afterwards. I decided to walk in pain rather than not walk. I have had two neck surgeries in the past and have been told that it would take at these four surgeries to even attempt to fix my neck. My neck is shot. When I lived in Tulsa, OK they had an excellent therapy department and my back went from 30% usage to 80%, That was years ago. The therapy around here is very wimpy, and a 60mi round trip. The Athleanx sounds like something that is worth looking into. Thank you again and I will pray🙏for your daughter. 🥰
This is my third trip around the sun...the Bible is the most beautiful book I don't want to stop reading with Fr. Mike and commentaries of Jeff Cavins. Thank you Ascension and the production staff. You are all in my prayers.
Thank You Lord for day 11 of this bible journey. I’m so blessed to be part of this journey. Thank Lord for Fr. Mike and everyone who is part of this journey. In Jesus name I pray 🙏🙌🎚️❤️

Thank you for this . I learn a bit each day and it speaks directly to me . I pray to have the courage to hold on in faith even when I only see darkness and hopelessness. Help me find a way to escape the person who daily inflicts harm in one form or another - help me believe you Lord are not intent on my destruction. That what is hidden to others behind closed doors will be revealed. That you Lord go ahead of me and will defend and protect me . That you Lord see.
You, Fr. Mike are giving us such a gift. Thank you for guiding us through the Bible and helping us to understand it. This means the world to me. God bless you.
My mom died on 12/20 and I am grateful to God that I got to say goodbye to her before she died and tell her I loved her and that she was a good mom. I told myself faith and trust in God while flying from Florida to Michigan on 12/19. I will always profess my faith and trust in him because he had grace and mercy on us and my mom and answered all my prayers. Thank you Lord for all my blessings. 🙏🏼✝️☮️💟

❤May the Lord bless you with peace, a welcoming comfort, a joy that you will experience and immediately want to share with others through Christ our Lord. Amen. ❤
I always read the Story of Isaac in a historical context. Human sacrifice was quite the norm in the early Times except in a few cultures like the Minoans (and even they tried it at least once when they were going down. Archeologists found a Cave with a priest and a human sacrifice and the priest was killed by an earthquake immideatly after and they were burried underneath the rubble) God demands something very normal for the time and then tells his people: Stop killing your children. Even when the going gets tough, even if everyone around you does it, DON'T. Sacrifice mostly meant killing something. And God said: Don't kill your nations children. And Christ - among all the other Gifts- also brings this: "Do not even kill animals to please me" Judaism has braucht a religion without human sacrifice. Christianity has brought a Religion without blood sacrifice at all. And I feel sometimes under all the great "things" Christ brought, this gets overlooked, but this was actually Revolutionary. We do not need to kill to please God. Just to clothe and feed us. (English is not my native tongue, I am sorry if my words are not quite right)
❤Lord, I ask that You extend Your wondrous healing hand and give her peace, the kind of peace that no one can take away through Christ Our Lord. Amen. ❤
The reflection is sooo beautiful. Its as though a light just shone through the passage. The similarities between Jesus and Issac is truly intriguing. Thank you Fr Mike and your entire team.
I never understood that the story of Abraham and Issac to be sacrificed was one of trust, thankyou for this I REALLY needed to hear this 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽✨️✨️✨️✨️
Thank you Father you truly are a man of God. God bless you and continue His Great works in you. I am truly enjoying my journey with you. Thank you and God bless. I will pray for you and please pray for me, that God's will be done. Amen. God
God bless you Father ,you explain things so well and having thought this story in my mind was nothing like the truth ..with love from us all on this journey ..thankyou
Wow, I'm always reminded of the words of Dr Scott Hahn who I heard many years ago say the new is concealed in the old and the old is revealed in the new. Now I can truely start to see the connection beyond the old and new testaments. Second year around feels so much better.
Yes, now I understand better what Dr Scott Han said, about the OT and the NT. "The New in hidden in the Old and the Old is revealed in the New" Thanks Fr Mike for highlighting this. Thanks also to the Jeff Cavins and the every brothers and sisters in the team putting all these together. May God bless you all always. Praying for you all.
Thank you for giving me a better understanding. How beautiful. How much Our Lord speaks to us and shows us how much he loves us. Thank you thank you. It is a blessing to me.
I really enjoy this Bible study. I have read the entire Bible several times but there are many places that are difficult to understand. Having someone explain things is very helpful.
I do sometimes think that the Lord asks us to give up something that becomes superior to our love for him. I personally have had this experience and I really don't understand why. Not being a parent, I cannot fathom what Abraham thought when God asked this sacrifice of him! I do see the resemblance of what happens a couple thousand years later. Thank you father in heaven for setting the stage for us to live in harmony with you for eternity 🙏 ❤
Father Mike, I’m so glad that I can listen to BIY in 2025, as I didn’t finish last year, Thank you for the TH-cam post much appreciated, will keep you in prayer everyday….Amen.
Thank you Fr Schmitz. The relation of Abraham sacrificing Isaac with crucifixion of Jesus was just amazing. I would not lie. When things are going bad in my life I feel like stop trusting him but yes i cannot leave him. Pray for me
I never knew that about Isaac before. Nor did I see the parallel with the site of the sacrifice (that ended up being the ram). Thank you for teaching me that.
Abraham's Sacrifice of Isaac on Mt. Moriah is one of the most famous parts of Genesis and I think for good reason. As you explained, it sets the stage for what it means to live a spiritual life and to walk with God throughout the rest of the Bible. It also exemplifies the importance of trust. Genesis 22 tells the story of trust. Abraham trusted that the Lord's plan was good and prepared for the sacrifice of Isaac accordingly. He trusted that Isaac would submit to the sacrifice even though Isaac could easily overpower him. He trusted that Isaac would return alive because he had faith in God. Similarly, Isaac trusted Abraham's plan in spite of his concern that they did not have a lamb for the offering. Isaac trusted that Abraham was righteous and submitted to the sacrifice. There were lots of little details in this story of trust that I had missed in the past, thank you for pointing them out. Additionally, I really appreciated the parallels to the crucifixion of Jesus. Just as Abraham gave his only beloved son Isaac, the Lord gave His only beloved son Jesus for our salvation. Like you said, God is not our enemy, He shows His love for us in so many ways. Genesis 23 tells about the burial of Sarah, the matriarch of the Israelites. Ephron sells Abraham the cave burial site but offers to provide it for him. This shows that Abraham was respected as a righteous, God-fearing man. Job 11 involves Job's third friend Zophar confronting Job's questions. He claims Job deserves worse and that Job should not claim to be pure or clean. Zophar lectures Job about the transcendence and sovereignty of God and claims Job should not question whether God considers the character of men (righteousness vs. wickedness). Zophar suggests Job should repent. Job 12 shows how Job is upset. He shows his complaints by sarcastically claiming his friends "are the people" of wisdom and asserting that he is familiar with their points. Job repeats his complaints from earlier about how his friends have mocked him. Job shows he recognizes God's power. As always, I find a lot of Job's responses to be very relatable. It hurts to feel that your friends are against you during an argument. It hurts even more to suspect that God is against you. However, as the story of Abraham has shown, the Lord is not our enemy. I look forward to seeing more of Job's spiritual battle. Proverbs 2:9-15 reminds us that by seeking the Lord's Wisdom, we will be delivered from evil. I pray that as I continue with the Bible in a Year podcast that I can be delivered from evil to avoid the crooked paths of evil-doers. Day 11 - 1/11/2022
I have been going through this journey for the last 11 days and have yet to fall into temptation until today. God I’m sorry for my actions but nevertheless I will keep pushing forward and keep on pursuing this journey 😊
Thank you Father Mike. This is my third time listening to the Bible readings. And must say each time i am learning something new. As for instance today that Isaac was thirty or thirty three years old. The same age of Jesus. Wow!

This is the most profound of homilies so far this year! Mind blown!
I really struggled with the sacrifice of Isaac and now I’m starting to understand and connect. Thank you 🙏
Meeeeee too
Lord, Bless Father Mike and all who hear his words.
Wow, I'm always reminded of the words of Dr Scott Hahn who I heard many years ago say the new is concealed in the old and the old is revealed in the new. Now I can truely start to see the connection beyond the old and new testaments. Second year around feels so much better.
I like this ,the old in the new .
I will be praying for you
Thank you Fr.Mike for the Bible in a year love listening
The insights is just mind blowing ❤
Thank you for giving me a better understanding. How beautiful. How much Our Lord speaks to us and shows us how much he loves us. Thank you thank you. It is a blessing to me.
I really enjoy this Bible study. I have read the entire Bible several times but there are many places that are difficult to understand. Having someone explain things is very helpful.
Prayers 🙏🙏🙏
I do sometimes think that the Lord asks us to give up something that becomes superior to our love for him. I personally have had this experience and I really don't understand why. Not being a parent, I cannot fathom what Abraham thought when God asked this sacrifice of him! I do see the resemblance of what happens a couple thousand years later. Thank you father in heaven for setting the stage for us to live in harmony with you for eternity 🙏 ❤
Thank you Fr Mike for enlightenin g our hearts and mind to the word of God 💕🎉😊
“The Lord will Provide” 🙏❤️🙏

2024 Grest Adventure. The Salvation Story. Mother Mary help us to Persevere. God Bless us!
The Lord help us all to trust like our father Abraham and love God without withholding anything from him.
What a revalation! Isaac. Age 33. The sacrifice. A type of Christ. Wow! In these 11 days I have learned so much, and what a blessing this is.
Fr. Mike God bless you because you are blessing souls. Bible study indeed. I feel like playing all the days.
Day 11 - 1/11/2022
Thanks be to God prayers father Mike amen
I have been going through this journey for the last 11 days and have yet to fall into temptation until today. God I’m sorry for my actions but nevertheless I will keep pushing forward and keep on pursuing this journey 😊
Love being a part of this community! Praying for you all.
Thank you Father Mike. This is my third time listening to the Bible readings. And must say each time i am learning something new. As for instance today that Isaac was thirty or thirty three years old. The same age of Jesus. Wow!
I really want to understand the Bible. Thank you father Mike! I have faith but I want knowledge to bridge it all together.
Thanks!
Trust in God is key, give me and all my brothers in faith, Abrahams faith and absolute trust in you
Amen.
God bless you Father Schmitz for this gift of the Bible in One Year. Stay humble!
The reading shows for me that your love for God should greater than the blessings which he has given you always.
Day 11 ❤
