What a fantastic turntable. I don't understand why. manufacturers don't make fully automatics anymore.

The Japanese turntables from the late '70s and early '80s were awesome. They were the best engineered turntables because records were the highest fidelity playback system. The development of turntables after the advent of CDs took a back seat.

    Note:
It is better to remove the dust cover completely during operation, because it affects the scanning process negatively like a bell. Professional devices are never operated with a dust cover neither open nor closed, because it is only a dust protection when the device is at rest. Trust me.

If they make one like this today, they have to sell it for $3k minimum, used price of this table is already exceeded or higher than original price, inflation aside. Well refurbished models with new chassis go for $1500 to $2500 from Germany.

Where did you get the extra gold headshell? I have been looking for years for an extra PCL-40 headshell (or clone) for my DP-47F. I have ordered two headshells online which are supposed to be PCL-40 clones and what I got was clones of the PCL-30 which is shorter than the PCL-40 and will not accept my large cartridges.
Did you ever consider adding some weight to your lighter headshell/cartridge so that your cartridges all weigh the same so you don't need to adjust the counterweight?
Like you I do love my DP-47F, of my three turntables it gets the most use because it just works and is so easy to use.

  • @Geoduck.

I'm sure replacing the tone arm cables would be a big improvement. Something I am not so sure I would have the skill to do.
I just recently got a new Ortofon Blue cart and am very pleased. Seems to be real synergy between the DP-47F and the Ortofon.
What protractor do you use for alignment if you don't mind my asking? I bought one several years ago from a place in Ukraine seems to be spot on.

Thank you for doing this. I have always admired this table but wasn’t sure about reliability. I see why you like this table so much. I missed out on one by a day. I own a VPI Classic and it can be a bear to set up with that unipivot arm, which is good but azimuth can be tricky sometimes. VPI set up tools gets you close, but to get even more accurate takes time. I love the table, but like I said it can be a challenge, but the thing I like a lot about the VPI Classic is that you can remove the arm and VPI has a solid upgrade path. Is there a piece that comes with the Denon like the Technics that you slide the head shell into to make sure the azimuth and alignment is proper. You summed it up nicely by saying I could buy more but why?

@@citronski I'm dreading the day Techmoan admits that CD is the superior format... Then the price of used CD's will go through the roof. I've been enjoying collecting my favourite music on CD, free from surface noise and wow and flutter and inner groove distortion.

      @@revokdaryl1 Luckily i got a DP-47F for 250€ locally, so i have mine.
I think CDs will never rise in price, eventually most CD-Players will be broken and can't be reapired, laser diodes have a natural decay, even if unused. Record players will be able to be repaired for a long time in contrast.
I have bought entire collections in the last years for less than 200€ at times, picked the cherries, ripped and sold the rest on.

@@citronski I understand the love affair with vinyl very well, believe me. The last cartridge I bought was a low output dual moving coil Audio Technica OC9 III. That cartridge was ridiculously good sounding, even with my lowly Pro Ject Phono Box S. It would have sounded much better with a better phono stage for sure. What ruined vinyl for me was tinkering with the VTA and antiskate. I got so caught up with fine tuning adjustments that it ruined the experience for me. That and I was suddenly experiencing speed issues with my turntable. I eventually gave up on vinyl because of this and went back to CD and FLAC/WAV. And dipped my toes into Super Audio CD territory, which has been very rewarding. DSD is superior to PCM. I do plan on getting a proper analog reel to reel deck at some point.
