Thank you for a XTC reaction. They are one of the most enduring bands from the first new wave explosion, and one of the best pop bands of all time. Was lucky to see them live at the Hollywood Palladium (w/Wall of Voodoo).
XTC are just brilliant...and this is one fantastic song...off a brilliant album. I bought the cassette of Oranges & Lemons whilst living in Vancouver BC at the time in '89. Fell back in love with XTC and stayed with them and their back catalogue when I moved back to Ireland.
I have to admit, i never really *got* XTC, aside for a couple of tunes. This is one of them. There's an incredible performance of, Statue Of Liberty from the OGWT. It's almost shambolic, as Andy Partridge in particular, is so excited, he can barely speak. Really, awesome exciting stuff. Andy did some interesting, almost ambient stuff much later as I remember.
A tragic story of mismanagement... one of the most creative bands of the time didn't see a dime from all their millions of sales. The song is incredible as many of XTC are... ❤ the harmonies are just phenomenal
@@stephenbennett1643 Yes, you are right. Thank you for the correction. I seem to remember now, an interview on the ProgCast with Gregg Bendian where Andy Partridge mentions that he wrote the bass part for Colin, but Colin would have added some of his own flourishes and stamped his own personality on the part.
The programme you're thinking of is "The Avengers." This may well be the most subtley ironic and sarcastic political song ever written. Brilliant! PS. In case anyone thinks I'm referring to Marvel's Avengers, th-cam.com/video/DjQRwMtae5g/w-d-xo.html
This is my favorite XTC song. Always lifts me up and brings a smile to my face. I've been scanning your channel and I am very impressed with some of the artists you have chosen. Many are very obscure but well loved. Keep up the good work.
@@hanierfamily There are so many XTC tracks that I could recommend, from the early more punky, This Is Pop to the lush orchestral Rook. Some of my favourites are Reign Of Blows, Funk Pop A Roll, Stupidly Happy, Love At First Sight and Seagulls Screaming Kiss Her, Kiss Her.
Unfortunately , due to the stage fright of Andy Partridge XTC never played live after 1982. They would have been absolutely massive & were still really successful. Check out their album under an assumed name .. The Dukes Of Stratosphere ..
@Hanier Family 25 O'Clock the title track of their EP which some refer to as an LP. Any of the 6 tracks on that are fun. The proper album is not as good .. imo.
They do know the 'Nige' song already 😉 'Sgt Rock' is also cool, yes! 😊 Other good XTC ones: 'Towers Of London', 'Respectable Street', 'Generals And Majors', 'Jason And The Argonauts' ... 🙂
The British TV programme was called The Avengers, a very stylish “crime” show with Steed and Emma Peel as the main characters, check it out. 😊
Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) passed away a few yrs ago sadly.

Black Sea Tour .. It was at the same venue the next year where Andy refused to play .. Romeo Void opened.
Cheers guys! This song has one of the finest pop bass lines ever! 😎
It's incredible.
"making plans for nigel" one of my very favorites!! i named my cat after that song
We love that song.
The video was based on The Avengers, starring Patrick MacNee and Diana Rigg. Try 'Dear God' next from XTC.
We know that song well. Muchmusic had it on heavy rotation for a bit. We loved how it challenged people's beliefs. Especially in rural New Brunswick.
I think the show you were thinking of was The Avengers

Brilliant, seamless pop and a fantastic video. Thanks, and more XTC please!

The industry will do that to you if you're not paying attention. Ask Q-Tip. From Tribe Called Quest. Not the thing people used to put in their ears.
I love XTC ! Such a great bassline by Colin Moulding.
Colin played it but Andy actually wrote it . Tho im sure Colin would've had some input. Great bassline.

XTC’s best singles were massively awesome!
Dear God by these guys is an outstanding piece of music
We know. It's an amazing song. It made us ponder when we were younger. It may have helped shape our beliefs.
Dear God used as a trailer for the movie Spotlight
The Avengers me thinks...highly addictive tune.
The show was The Avengers
i just love them!
Tv show is the Avengers
Emma Peel! 😍😁
Yes! Thank you! That TV show.
I loved it so much.
King For A Day is great too.
We did a video for that song not long ago. Yes. You're right.

YES!
You two Lovelies have been cranking out some particularly good stuff today, thank you! 😁👍 May your weekend have been as pleasant as mine, too! 😊
So far, it's been great. And it will be better once we get our new Patreon video edited and up.
@@hanierfamily - Because you can finally go and just chill once that's done, right? 😊👍
Great track....before I forget... Chicago - Please Hold On... wonderful song! 😎

* Stratosphear 😉 They released _two_ albums 😁👍
So, which album are we to look at? Or, at least what song?
@Hanier Family 25 O'Clock the title track of their EP which some refer to as an LP. Any of the 6 tracks on that are fun. The proper album is not as good .. imo.
@@davidellis5141 I disagree. The second album, Psonic Psunspot, has one of the greatest songs on it.. that would be Vanishing Girl.
Never played live after 1982? Look up "King For A Day" which they played on David Letterman, in 1989.
XTC were a great band. Throwaway music. Nothing taken seriously but it just sounded so good
Not throwaway at all, check out "Poor Skeleton Steps Out" for example, or "Dear God", or "Peter Pumpkin Head", nothing lightweight about those.
Swindon's finest👏👏👏
GENERAL AND MAJORS WAS MY FAVORITE OF XTC BUT THIS IS NICE
Thats my ringtone! Great tune .
The Avengers was the show
Great band, they wrote some great songs.
X T C 's we're making plans for Nigel , and SGT rock is going to help me , are brilliant songs .

Like the Stranglers i LOVE THE BASS with these guys i find it hard to focus on the rest of the band
Idea for a comparison video: XTC’s original version of The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead, against the cover from Canada’s very own Crash Test Dummies!
Our response together after reading this: Ooooooh! Yes!
Fish Below the Ice - from the Oil and Gold album, 1985 (probably their finest).
That was *Shriekback*, one of whose founding members was Barry Andrews, the original keyboardist of XTC.
Should of watched "king for as a day" as well as most xtc songs are short little ditties.
Thanks!
The avengers
The Avengers
Could you guys do some Shriekback reactions?
Is that a band? If so leave us a song or 2 to start with. Thanks
Shriekback is the band of the XTC keyboardist, Barry Andrews, in the two first XTC albums.
Try My Spine is the Bassline or All Lined Up
Get Smart
The show was The Avengers, classic cult British tv series from the 60s.
