    Nice work. I suggest using African blackwood, as it truly is the king of turning and carving woods for fine details. Also, mark the upper and lower starting points for the twist using the indexing function of your lathe. Hand sanding is the time-consuming part of this project.

    Emery cloth is great for the rounding of these type of twists

    Fantastic Finial Atilla, the Dremel looks like a handy tool to have :-)

      Thank you. I carve a lot so I invested into an expensive carving machine. I use Foredom. Best carving tool out there but it is costly.

      Thank you. I think it is walnut and lacquer. To be honest, it was a long time ago. I don't remember but that is what I would use today. 😃

    I hate to tell you but you are using that spindle gouge backwards! The flute of the gouge is suppose to face the direction you are going and be riding the bevel for a smooth surface and little sanding afterwards.
