The text messed up in the edit so our predictions are JACK: 1.) Mikey Madison (Anora) 2.) Demi Moore (The Substance) 3.) Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez) 4.) Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) 5.) Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths) ANTONY: 1.) Mikey Madison (Anora) 2.) Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) 3.) Angelina Jolie (Maria) 4.) Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez) 5.) Demi Moore (The Substance)
I am rooting for Demi Moore, her role and performance is so outside of the box and very physical and emotionally/psychologically captivating! This role is totally perfectly cast, and she went and above and beyond to deliver the performance of her career! I just saw Wicked yesterday, and I was not taken by surprise Cynthia’s performance, she had a few “money scenes” in it, also she’s not the only lead, I feel there is a category fraud case here that Ariana is campaigned as supporting role when she had probably more screen time than Cynthia. I think Mikey might suffer the loss of voters since she’s so green. Demi has the comeback narrative going for her. I hope she will win it!
I’ve been rooting hard for Demi since September! One of the most truly fearless and vulnerable acting performances I’ve seen in years. I think it’s also interesting that almost every scene Demi has is alone so she doesn’t have the luxury of acting off of someone else. Very impressive
@ talk about solo no dialogue scene…the bathroom scene of self rage and smudging her makeup and having a meltdown was incredible! I heard that she did more than 25 takes to get that scene right! Kudos to Demi!
Agreed. I honestly think she’s been a solid top 2 since October and if she can overcome the hurdle of getting nominated I could totally see her winning
Michelle Yeoh was definitely helped by her race and the narrative around that. I say this as an Asian. She was hardly long overdue for an Oscar. I hope that the Oscar’s choose based on quality of acting and not just the narrative around being the first whatever. With that said, I’m a big fan of Marianne Jean Baptiste.
There are amazing films with incredible actors all around the world. We’re discovering Asian films and series with outstanding actors, not to mention the French and also the Brazilians. There’s a significant barrier, though, which is language. When you understand what the character is saying, I feel like the ability to connect with them is much stronger. Fernanda Torres did an incredible job-I remember watching the film and thinking at the end, “Wow, what an amazing actress!” At no point did she seem like she was acting; it felt completely real. I think Americans need to open their eyes more to international talent, even with the language barrier
I love Demi Moore. She’s my Number 2 choice and I would be happy if she won but I think Mikey Madison should win this season. She’s truly the lead of Anora. She’s in almost every frame, she carries the film, her character is the name of the film while Demi is off screen for chunks in The Substance & she’s co-sharing the role with Margaret Qualley. But Demi has the career narrative behind her while Mikey is a newcomer. Very hard to call. Kinda reminds me of last year between Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone. In the end Emma won the Oscar because she was the lead of her film and had the more screentime.
My current predictions: 1 - Mikey Madison (Anora) 2 - Karla Sofia Gascón (Emilia Pérez) 3 - Demi Moore (The Substance) 4 - Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) 5 - Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths) hm: 6 - Angelina Jolie (Maria) (if she wins the Golden Globes, i think she gets in) 7 - Nicole Kidman (Babygirl) (if she misses SAG, think she’s kinda gone) 8 - Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here) (i know she missed the BAFTA longlist, which is crazy, but she COULD win Globes) 9 - Amy Adams (Nightbitch) (she could get a SAG nomination) 10 - Kate Winslet (Lee) (this would be laughable, but not impossible. She got GG and could get SAG, it feels like something they would do, and BAFTA, because she is a british icon)
Yeah. Also, Margot Robbie isn't an EGOT winner. Cynthia Erivo brings gravitas to her role in her acting and her singing. She brings so much personality to the character in a way that we haven't really seen before. She has hit every possible spot and has made the bafta long list. The baftas snubbed Barbie because it was adapted from a children's toy. Wicked is adapted from a popular stage musical that the UK just loves so much. It's adapted from material that they can actually take seriously with its dark themes, complex character moments and just overall well-roundedness as a story that conveys what it's trying to say. It's not just a fun summer comedy, in fact it's barely a comedy, despite the Glinda moments. Both actresses take themselves very seriously throughout the film and we see a lot of moments of new wants that we never get from Barbie. Wicked is already doing better than Barbie at the BAFTAS and it's going to continue to do well and land in best picture. It's a more serious threat than people think, currently gold Derby has it sitting at the number one spot for expert Oscar predictions to win best picture. There's a lot of heartbreaking emotion that you don't get from dumb summer comedies like Barbie, which really was a dumb summer comedy about a toy at the end of the day, no matter how much Greta Gerwig tried to make it artistic, she was still adapting a toy. Instead, it's going to be the opposite as the film is dominating the bafta guilds with 10 nominations, it may not be the most, but it's still very impressive. The British love it and it's nice to know then all the actresses are showing up in all the important spots to get the Oscar nominations. It's going to happen and we're going to see a very different Oscar race come March, I guarantee it.
@ i cant believe i read all that but also i can. Lol but i agree when i saw wicked made the longlist for bafta, i said in my head “oh its happening” 💚🩷
It will be Karla Sofia Gascon or Demi Moore. People are totally sleeping on Karla and the bigger (and deeper) narrative at play in her case. Golden Globes might make things a bit clear for those who are still playing safe with the obvious pick. Jolie is out and the 5th spot is between Jean-Baptiste and (most likely) Kidman
BTW i think the drama Globe is between Torres and Anderson. Torres cause she probably deserves it, her film got another nomination and could make a great story of the night, but even better story(for Hollywood) would be awarding Anderson, it's very Globes like and her film also would def appeal to highbrow journalists. Swinton is not winning, I also don't see them picking Jolie for a muted mixed biopic no one cares about where she wears a fake nose, Kidman maybe but she won very recently. Winslet could surprise though.
I’m excited for An a-political film , aka a film Tt doesn’t necessarily present as anti-new administration to win to prove Tt Moonlight won because pple actually ok , not as some reactionary thing.
Still not getting all the buzz around Karla Sofia, i found her performance... medium at best sadly, and the movie is barely interesting despite a beautiful realisation, maybe with the trans factor, but as performance, really beside others
I’m excited for An a-political film , aka a film Tt doesn’t necessarily present as anti-new administration to win to prove Tt Moonlight won because pple actually it. not as some reactionary thing.
The guy on the left: you have a better taste and opinion that other guy with sunglasses, so please don't allow him to influence your genuine ideas. Stick to your choices since they are better than his crappy taste.
Jolie will be snubbed, and Kidman will get the veteran spot since her colleagues love her. I hope Brad Pitt works against Jolie's campaign so the sunglasses guy will shut up for real.
Madison, Erivo, Baptiste, Moore, Torres. These 5 will get most passion votes. Kidman is too artsy and provocative for them, Pamela Anderson could sneak in IF SHE WINS the Globe. Winslet is also on the cusp if she gets SAG WATCH OUT, that's your Albert Nobbs, Nyad veteran Oscar bait passion. project. Jolie needs SAG nom to stay alive and it's not like Oscar's havent snubbed her before for playing real life person (Mighty heart) Gascón to me still feel like the obvious big snub of the year even if her film gets 26377383 nominations cause nominating a trans actress would be a huge thing for the academy and I'm not sure they will vote for her. Also she is for even people who LOVE Emilia Pérez not the Mvp, then add the unknown actressfactor, foreign language, not that baity role and category confusion and the fact that most people won't recognize that she was in the first half of the film. Adam's Arrival like snub makes a lot of sense.

Demi Moore simply makes the most sense to win. She checks all the boxes. No one else has every box checked
Agreed. I honestly think she’s been a solid top 2 since October and if she can overcome the hurdle of getting nominated I could totally see her winning
What are the boxes?

GO FERNANDA!!!
Angelina Jolie deserves to be nominated I really hope she wins
Jolie and Torres both missing BAFTA Longlist was surprising today. Might have to join Jack in having Baptiste at 5
Penelope Cruz missed the BAFTA long list but still got a Lead Actress Oscar nom for Parallel Mothers.

So much discussion this awards season about Mikey Madison not making sense as a winner only for her to probably end up winning
She shouldn't
Too early to call ‘probably.’
Probably isn't for sure.
Go Mickey🎉🎉🎉🎉
The guy with the sunglasses is rooting so hard for Jolie in Maria despite her movie has no reception and she even couldn't make BAFTA long list.
Fernanda Torres 🏆

That’s who I hope is in don’t know who should be the last spot probably someone else than Karla
Karla is a frontrunner for win. Time to wake up
I hope demi wins
Kidman is getting in.
I currently have Mikey, Demi, Karla, Cynthia and i am debating the last spot between Nicole and Marianne. I'm scared of Kate Winslet tho
Hoping for Baptiste
I always hated that comparison of erivo and robbie cuz clearly one performance is wayyyyyy better lol 💚

Go Nicole Kidman.....go legend.
Angelina is still win competitive
she wasn't even longlisted at BAFTA, not happening
I think she’ll still make SAGS
@@Price_of_FamePenelope Cruz wasn’t long listed at the SAGs and still got a Best Actress Oscar nom for Parallel Mothers.

unless you missed that the OP said "Win competitive"

Demi needs to win 🏆
The Cynthia meatriding here felt a little too tied to the guy being a theater kid.

So glad Agelina got snubbed by BAFTA.

Erivo won't get a nomination for theatre kids role. You are crazy
She'll get in because she's a soon to be egot winner. They'll have her in just for that alone.
